Damon watched even the micro reactions of Echo. She smiled, and then even giggled while reading the letter, but at the end, her eyes widened, as she stared intensely at it.
'What's going on in her mind? Is she shocked? She's definitely shocked. Why isn't she saying anything? Does this mean that she's rejecting me? Is that what's happening right now? But I haven't even shown her everything yet,' Damon was pulled out from his thoughts.
Echo was in shock too, but her mouth replied before she could even think, "Yes!"
"What?"
"...Yes!"
Damon's face lit up instantly. He couldn't believe what he had heard, but of course how would someone just say no to someone as handsome as him.
Echo was still in shock at her own answer, 'What was that? I didn't even think about it. Ugh! Stupid!'
She watched Damon stand up, and walk to her. He picked the envelope up, and took out a choker, sitting on the table in front of her.
Damon leaned closer to Echo, opening the choker that was pure black, "I know you have to fight a lot, so I got you something that won't get in the way. And it's enchanted so if you get into some trouble with magic… and you happen to misplace your sword, the chain will keep you safe."
"Misplaced? That's a smart choice of words," Echo smirked. 'He takes my sword away from me and I 'misplace' it. I wonder what he'd say if he lost something that was important to him.'
Before Echo could think more, she felt Damon's breath on her face. He was leaning so close to her while putting the necklace on for her. She stared at him, but he did not seem to bother much about the small space between their faces.
The concentration on Damon's face, and his pursed lips made Echo almost lose her mind. How could someone be so perfect even while concentrating so hard on something? How can someone like him look so handsome and dangerous by doing a small task like this?
Damon was so focused on getting the necklace on Echo's neck, that he began to bite his lip. He did not once think that his face was positioned close to Echo. "Done!" he smiled as he took his hands away from Echo and leaned back, while raising his leg up on the table and running his hand through his hair.
Echo's eyes widened, 'Ugh! This idiot! He is definitely doing that on purpose.' Despite being annoyed, she couldn't be more proud of how handsome Damon looked. Her eyes were lost in his good looks.
"Enjoying the view?" Damon asked, with a smile filled with pride.
"If by "view" you mean the beautiful sky… then yes. The other stuff, not so much," she teased.
Damon couldn't help but laugh at her response, "Of course you have too much pride to admit that I am handsome."
"I am your girlfriend now… so I guess that says enough."
He smiled, and stretched his hands out towards her cheeks. Holding the flesh on her cheeks, he began shaking her face, "You are so cute, especially when you're annoyed."
Echo hit his hands away from her face, 'Such childish!'
Damon smiled, moving his hands away. He was on cloud nine, so he couldn't hold his smile back. He still couldn't believe that Echo said yes to him, and that she was now his girlfriend. The word girlfriend… he would need some time getting used to calling her that.
He was so elated, that it took him some time to remember the rest of his plan, "Oh! I almost forgot, follow me!" Grabbing Echo's hand he swiftly walked to the edge.
"What's this?... Are you going to push me down or something?"
"Just stand there, my love. You'll love this," Damon held onto Echo's hand as he raised his hand and waved it to whoever was on the ground.
Echo stared down in confusion, 'What is he up to now? I hope he didn't…' Her heart almost stopped when a large area lit up in pink, in the shape of a heart. "Wow!" She had never seen anything like it before. It was so sweet, and beautiful that she couldn't take her eyes off it.
"Do you like it?" Damon asked, he moved closer to her and put his arm around her shoulder.
Echo did not know how to reply to his question. She thought for a while, and then answered as honestly as possible, "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
Damon smirked, and turned his gaze back to the heart, "Think of that as my heart, and I am giving it to you. So you need to keep it safe, so that no one else can take it away."
Echo gave out a chuckle, "I'll keep it safe, don't worry." She turned to face him, and held his cheek, "Do you know how cheesy you are right now? I can't believe you went from a scary demon, to this cute… and cheesy one."
"It's a special only you can see." He leaned in, and landed his lips on hers. He could have sworn it was much different than earlier. Her lips were soft, and sweet like cotton candy.
Echo was taken back, but she gave in to Damon's kiss.
Damon pulled back a few moments later. He smiled at her as he thought, 'Take it slow! It's her first time Damon, you don't want to scare her.'
Echo turned her gaze to the ground, she then turned to look at the illuminated heart. Her heart pounded so hard in chest, that she almost felt like she was dizzy. She was just floating in the space of existence after that kiss.
Damon was feeling the exact same. He was also relieved that Echo accepted him, it felt like a huge weight was lifted from his chest. He couldn't stop staring at the woman standing next to him. She was phenomenal. She died, and came back as a Protector. That should mean that even the universe thought she was special, right?
