The card fell on the table as Echo blinked several times, and gulped hard. She slowly raised her eyes to meet Damon's.
"Y-you? Y-You have a q-question?" Echo stuttered on her words. 'Ugh! This is so embarrassing. What is wrong with you Echo?'
Damon found it rather cute that Echo was stuttering and then her cheeks turned red as a cherry. How could such a powerful being be this cute? But then was she ever scary to begin with? Whatever she did; he found it adorable.
Damon stood up, and bent down leaning in right in front of Echo. He noticed Echo swallow hard, and even though she slightly moved back, he caught her chin. "What's wrong, my love?" His voice was rough, but gentle at the same time.
Echo felt goosebumps on her hands. What was Damon doing? She froze into her seat, and her mind went completely blank, something that rarely happens to her. She felt Damon's breath on her lips, and his scent wafted through the air around her. She slowly lifted her eyes to his, and gulped once again.
Damon enjoyed the view he was having. Seeing Echo so vulnerable made him want to hold her close to him and never let her go. He didn't want to see her fight the demons, and get hurt. That's the one thing he dreaded, seeing her hurt. His heart began to heart uncontrollably with that thought, thus he Echo in the eyes and made a silent promise to her. A promise to never hurt her ever again. A promise to never let anyone hurt her ever again.
He finally gave her a slight smile, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Echo stared at Damon for a while before replying, "Because I don't have anything to say." She kept her eyes on him, as he leaned in closer, and kissed her swiftly. She closed her eyes as soon as his soft lips touched hers, but they vanished soon after, leaving her feeling empty.
Damon sat back down and licked his lips with a smirk. He was pleased with her reaction since she had her eyes closed even after he pulled back. He did not want to stop, but he needed to show her what it felt like when she was avoiding eye contact with him.
Echo felt like Damon sucked her soul out and left without returning it. She opened her eyes and saw him watching her with a quite visible smirk. She bit her lips, and puffed her cheeks out.
"What was that?" Echo asked.
Damon leaned forward, keeping his hands on the desk, "Your punishment, for avoiding my gaze!"
Echo gave out a scoffed laugh, but in a few seconds she moved her hand in front of her face, and her expression became serious which eventually turned into a glare, "Do you have a death wish?"
"Are you threatening me?"
"I asked you a question, if you think of it as a threat that makes it your problem not mine," Echo replied.
Damon's eyes widened as he panicked, 'Is she angry with me for that? I was just joking around.' His eyes widened and he leaned back on his chair defensively.
"I didn't mean to…" He was surprised when Echo burst out laughing. He stared at her in confusion. Was she not angry with him a few seconds ago? Then why was she laughing now? What is going on?
"Haha! I got you good! You should have seen the look on your face," Echo laughed.
Damon sighed in irritation. He leaned closer until his face was directly in front of hers, and his eyes turned dark, "Did you forget who I am?"
"You really think you can take me out that easily?" Echo challenged him without backing down.
Damon smirked, "I can assure you I can get you on the ground in mere seconds, and you'll be begging me to kill you." He ended his sentence with a wink.
"Or you'd be the one on the ground, begging me to kill you!"
"I don't get tired that easily, love," Damon's eyes were still dark, but his voice was husky.
Echo stared at Damon for a moment, she sighed leaning back, "Jerk!"
Damon leaned back on his chair with a wide smile as his eyes turned back to normal. He made his point across, and was now glad that Echo understood him.
Embarrassed, Echo lifted the menu card once again covering her face. 'What a jerk! How did I even think that he would…? Ugh! So annoying!' she thought to herself. After a while of staring at the menu card, she finally put it down and was ready to order.
"What are you having?"
Echo whipped her head up at Damon, his voice sounded less playful and more serious. The aura he was giving off changed too. Echo wondered why he had changed so fast.
"Everything okay?" she asked.
"Yes? Why?" He was confused. Was she not annoyed about his playful attitude? Then why was she so shocked when he changed into a much serious demeanour?
"You just went from playful to all serious so fast. It's actually a little scary," Echo replied. She was worried if she had made a mistake by dismissing his playful side. Did she make him feel bad?
"I'm sorry, love. It's just that I only feel like I can be myself around you. I should have taken this more seriously. My apologies, love," Damon lowered his head and took Echo's soft hand in his, taking it up to his lips.
"Okay! Now you are outright scaring me! That playfulness seemed very mild, I think I can deal with it."
Damon smiled once again as he was just teasing her, 'It's so easy to fool her. I wonder how she could even be a warrior at this point!'
Echo sighed when she saw his smile, "Do you really want to die? I'll make it really painful too."
"I don't mind getting tortured by you!" Damon replied.
"Pfft! You underestimate me!" Echo scoffed. She pointed at a dish on the menu card, and watched as Damon picked the card up checking what she pointed at.
"Steak? You just want steak? Why not make it more fancy?"
"Fancy? Why would I want something fancy? I know what I'm picking, and I like it. Unless you have any recommendations, mister pick something fancy," Echo raised her eyebrows as her voice dropped a bit lower than usual and turned into a whisper at the end of her sentence.
