Echo closed her door and shrieked with excitement, rudely awakening Hunter. She rushed to the bed, and jumped on it, hugging a pillow while wiggling. 'I can't believe that just happened! He asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes. Then we went on a date... this is so unrealistic.' Echo was so thrilled that she felt like a teenager in love for the first time. It was difficult for her to explain the feeling, but her whole body felt the sudden change of her emotions.
Hunter, partially asleep and confused turned his gaze from the door to Echo, "Is everything alright? Why did you scream like that? Is this a dream?"
"You won't believe what happened!" Echo replied, sitting up on the bed. She was so full of energy that she could run a hundred laps around the field in the Protectors Manor and still have retained it.
Hunter slumped back down, "Maybe you should tell me in the morning," her head bobbed as she laid her head down. "I'm sleepy." Her drowsy eyes shut themselves without warning.
Echo sighed as she contained her energy. 'Is this how people in the movies feel too? Is that why they go crazy each time their crush asks them out?... Is Damon feeling the same way? I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING. Am I dreaming? Please don't be a dream! Please don't be a dream!' She kicked her legs in the air, and huddled up beside her pillow.
"I need to sleep. Calm down and fall asleep, Echo," she mumbled to herself, and then stood up, making her way to the bathroom. She shut the door behind her and stood at the sink. She splashed some water on her face, and stared at her reflection. The cold water seemed to calm her excited nerves.
She closed her eyes, and pictured everything that happened after she was resurrected. The horrible training she had to go through with the witches. The pain she felt when she was disowned after making a mistake. She thought she was of no use after she failed her mission, but things changed when she saw Damon once again, and he was a demon. It was almost as if the universe itself had a bigger plan for the two of them. Earlier she thought she was all alone in this new world. That she needed to be better to fit in with the others. That she might not even make it and everything would be in vain.
Damon saved her. She was now not alone, and he was going to walk alongside her. She felt way more powerful than she had ever felt. She might be a warrior with immortality, but having him by her side was her greatest feat. She would now have someone to fight with her, someone she could trust with her life.
Echo opened her eyes, smiling to herself, "If you still don't believe in destiny I don't know what could change your mind.... my love."
She took a quick bath, and changed her clothes. Laying down on the bed, she shut her eyes.
The next morning came much quicker than anyone had expected. Echo had slept well, and woke up with so much energy. She took a bath, dried her hair, and picked a simple t-shirt and trousers. Before she was called out, she stepped out of her room.
The corridor was empty, so Echo casually walked towards the dining area. When she arrived she was greeted by Denzel.
"The witch's chosen warrior! I thought you were a prisoner here. It's interesting to see you walking around so freely," Denzel stated. He stepped towards Echo, and sized her up, walking around her.
Echo stood in silence, "Where's everyone else?"
Denzel smiled, "You must have not got the memo. The Midnight Onix visits today! He wants to see the infamous chosen warrior. Word around the street is that you can't go back to the Witches Coven without finding a demon who escaped your sword. What humiliation you must feel!"
Echo noticed the mocking tone in Denzel's voice. How did he know about the demon who escaped her clutches? Did he know something about this demon? She wanted to ask him more, despite his attitude towards her, but for the time being she had a much bigger issue at hand, the Midnight Onix.
As far as Echo knew, the Midnight Onix was the most powerful demon. It was safe to say that he was in charge of everything. She had never faced him, and only knew what the stories told. He rarely showed himself to the Protectors, but when he did no one came back alive. The only encounter of anyone coming back was when the witches decided to get involved in a fight, and that too was a very long way back. The Midnight Onix was not seen by the Protectors for over a century.
Denzel watched Echo's reactions, but he was amazed when she was unreadable. 'I guess the witches might have taught her well then,' he thought to himself, while keeping his eyes on her.
Damon rushed into the dinning hall, he glanced at Denzel and then at Echo. "What are you both doing here?"
"I came to announce the approach of the Midnight Onix. He wishes to see the witch's chosen warrior. I doubt he'll be impressed once he sees her though."
Damon glared at Denzel, "Have you seen her fight? She could no doubt destroy you in seconds... and then again anyone can destroy you in seconds, so it's not even something to compare."
Denzel glared back at Damon, who ignored him and turned all his attention to Echo.
"Go to your room, and stay there. Come out only if you're called," Damon ordered Echo.
Echo hesitated, "What if something happens?"
"The only thing that will happen is you getting hurt, and humiliated even more than you are now. Can we even trust the claims you make to be the chosen warrior?" Denzel scoffed with a cold glare.
