Echo wanted to shrink into the ground. Why was he looking at her like he was watching a cute puppy? His gaze made her more self conscious and embarrassed. She glanced around for an opening to leave.
"I should get going," Echo turned away to escape to her room, but Damon grabbed her hand.
"Come with me! I need to show you something. You'll love it."
Before she could reply, she felt herself being dragged by Damon who had a strong grasp of her hand.
Damon was so excited, that he completely forgot about asking her if she wanted to come along. He felt his heart beat so hard, it was like nothing before.
He dragged her higher up the stairs, and then into a lift. He finally stopped to see Echo glaring at her.
"What's wrong? What do you want to show me? Is everything okay?" Echo asked so many questions. She was worried that their cover had been blown, and they needed to leave in a hurry. Her eyes were enlarged, and her eyebrows raised high.
Damon smiled at Echo, and held her warm face in both his hands, "Everything is okay. Why are you so worried?"
Echo pursed her lips. Her heart began pounding against her chest, as her cheeks warmed up to his touch. She could not even think to say a single word as she stared directly at Damon.
Damon smiled, "That's more like it. Just hang on a bit, okay. I'm sure you'll love this." He knew exactly how she would react to his actions, and used them accordingly to keep her silent.
The door to the lift opened up, and Damon held Echo's hand, taking her out onto the rooftop. He felt his heart pounding in his chest, despite acting all confident to Echo, on the inside he was terrified. What if she didn't like his surprise? What if she said no?
Damon knew that he needed to ask Echo to be his girlfriend soon, or else someone might swoop her up, and he might never have the chance of asking her to be with him. The thought of losing her made him even more nervous, but he thought that since he was already there, why not go along with it.
Echo's eyes wandered around the rooftop. A few lights hung over their heads, illuminating the otherwise dark place. The moon was almost out of sight, with only a small light shimmering from behind the clouds. The stars were nowhere in sight either.
Two chairs and a round table were placed at the centre. A vase with two red roses, and an envelope was on the table.
Echo turned to Damon, who was watching her every move like a hawk. Her face was almost emotionless, but Damon noticed the small expressions of astonishment on her face.
'Why is she so quiet?' Damon thought to himself, as he glanced at the table and then at Echo. 'She looks so cute when she's shocked. I hope she likes this… I don't want to lose her. Ugh! Why didn't you think about this before bringing her here? You are so stupid. Stupid…'
"What's this?" Echo asked, looking at Damon. She raised her eyebrows, and glanced at the table and back at the handsome man standing beside her.
Damon's eyebrow raised involuntarily, "How…" He cleared his throat and continued, "Do you like it, love?"
Echo bit her lip, 'What was that? His voice was so soft… What is he doing? Aren't we here on a mission? WAIT!... Is he thinking of… OH MY GOODNESS! Is he going to ask me to be his girlfriend… I should probably answer his question. Oh my poor little heart is going to explode.'
"It's nice!" she replied.
"Come on! Let's go check the table." He grabbed her hand and walked her to the table.
Echo watched as he pulled her chair out for her. He was being so sweet and warm unlike his usual self. She was sure that he was up to something, but she waited to get a proper confirmation of her suspicions.
Damon sat down in front of Echo, and picked the envelope up, handing it to her. "There's something special in there for you."
'Something special? What could it be?' Echo's heart almost leaped out of her chest, as she held the envelope.
Damon was in a similar state. He was torn apart between fear and excitement. Fear because he did not know how Echo would react after opening the envelope. Excitement, because he was hoping that she would say yes to being with him. His heart almost stopped as Echo held the envelope.
'What does he have in here?' Echo glanced at Damon, who gulped. 'Is he scared?' she thought to herself. The envelope was heavy, and something was moving around freely as she moved it. She opened the envelope, and found a letter inside. Glancing at Damon, she took the letter out, and opened it.
"Dear my love. It's a bit odd writing this letter to you, but it's better than having to tell this to you in person, because whenever I see you I forget all my words, and what I've planned to tell you. It's scary sometimes, especially when I have absolutely no idea how I would react to you. It's almost as if I have no control over some of the things I do when I'm around you. It's incredible, since it has never happened to me before." Echo smiled as she read the letter, confusing Damon who was watching her closely.
Echo continued reading, "You make me want to live forever so that I could protect you, but you don't need any protection. Despite your scary demeanour, all I see is a cute girl. I know it's cheesy, but every time I look at you my heart stops, and I want to have this feeling forever, with you by my side. I want to wake up, and see that perfect smile of yours, that cute face, and that adorable personality. So would you grant me this one wish and be my girlfriend?"
She froze after reading that last line, but to be sure, she checked once again. "So would you grant me this one wish and be my girlfriend?"
