"Don't ever take things for granted or God will take it away from u"
Ves leaned back in her swivel chair, she was feeling sleepy upon hearing the rain that's been pouring nonstop outside. It's always been the sound of dripping water that makes her want to rest from her work for a while.
Stifling a yawn, Ves can feel herself shivering from the cold. She closed her eyes tightly while she sighed to herself.
"Relax Ves, you just have to get rid of that lame suitor! You can reject him now ".
She calmed herself down but she went angry again when the suitor whom she gave her notice banged the door open.
"Babe how can you do this to me?" the man said with a confused booming voice.
"Can you please refrain from calling me with any kind of term of endearment? You're getting on my nerves." Ves dictated.
"I know I am not the best but also I'm not the worst," said the last words of the man as Ves's suitor. Two bouncers dragged the guy away from the Ceo.
The guy screamed and kick the two men but the CEO only showed her apathetic behavior.
"Can he not pass your standards, Ves?" Tara Ves's secretary added.
"Not unless he'll change his behavior, and besides these past few days his existence has been just a disturbance, He's not just the vibes"
"There you are again giving cold shoulder to men, why are you so picky sis?" Tara said
"It is very right to be picky if you know what you want unlike you who dates random guys every week, don't try to make a comparison between me and you Tara, you fully know dating isn't for me" added the pissed Boss.
"I'm not only out of their orbit, but I'm also a fucking pluto to them, got it?"
"Whatever you say" the jokester secretary responded.
Ves afterward sat quietly in the corner of her office. Her hand was still signing paperwork. Her monolid eyebrows twitched as if a response to every paper she managed to sign. Meanwhile, Ves remembered what her doctor have said when she was still 25 and now she's 27
"Vestra you have your father's disease" spoked the doctor of the Dela Cruz's.
At first, Ves didn't believe what Dr. Wong had said as she couldn't take things seriously because she thought of it as a way of her Doctor to make her stop drinking coffee but she realized sooner that it was that incurable disease that killed her adored father.
In a flash, Ves called their family Doctor.
"Yes, Ms. Dela Cruz? How are you? What is it that you called all of a sudden? the doctor spoke.
"Am I going to die tomorrow or the next day Doc? What can i do to not trigger Hunhington's disease?" Vestra cried.
"Umm Ms. Dela Cruz it's not Hunhington's it's Huntington's disease, and you're in your early stage, this disease can decline your thinking, can cause uncontrolled movements and you can develop emotional problems."
"Don't worry you still have 10 more years to live," Dr. Wong added.
Ves then thanked the doctor for responding and soon ended the call.
She started crying. Vestra's hands trembled with restrained fear and sadness.
The office's door was suddenly opened by her secretary. She thought that someone from the company heard her crying but her eyes landed on Tara's face, Vestra's face turned into despair.
The reason why she felt despair was because she had long since observed that her seemingly bright and polite secretary is actually pitying her.
Vestra and Tara grew up together. Her mother raised Tara and was trained to be her soon assistant by his father, chairman of the company. Tara kept following Ves everywhere at school and when Vestra was out to train in taekwondo and swimming.
Nervously, Vestra questioned. "What will I do now, Tar? I will take orders from you at this moment."
Vestra was in much arduous pain, her father and mother died when she was 10. As though, she also wanted to die. However, the thought of Tara, Raylana and other people still breathing brought her back into sane.
Tara walked near Ves, she held her shoulder tightly and stuck their head. Stared at her eyes and said, "You and I have to be strong, that's what we have to do. Be tough for your employees"
Vestra nodded continuously. "Thank you Tara, When I die what will you do with your life?"
She spouts nothing but air as she's about to take her to leave at Ves's office.
Vestra narrowed her brows in confusion seeing Tara fix her blazer and hers.
"I have to stay here and serve the company". You have to be happy always, there's a lot of time.
Her words stabbed Ves like a sharpened sword. Without a doubt, Vestra opposed it.
"No. I'll serve this company until I die. Dad will understand, I can't leave my employees.
Tara saw that Vestra was determined to stay with the company. However, Tara's side no longer accepts any loss from someone she treats like family. She refused Vestra's words.
" The company's my happiness Tar, it's the only one I have," Ves added
Tara was about to give an opposition but she understood her boss.
"You have to schedule my meetings, go on Tar there's not much time left. Vestra commanded her secretary.
Tara was like a sister to Ves, a family, and a friend.
She remembered her father's last words.
"You and Tara will always lean on each other's shoulders at all times
And as though, she marked it in her heart. She knew that those words meant a lot to her father.
"I should stop acting like a baby. I don't want them to think that something's wrong with me. What will the other CEOs think of me? They will laugh at me.
I don't know. I think it would be a problem if they'd found out about my illness."
"I'll act as normal and be just what I am in public" Ves, stated to herself.
