Chapter 19 - Kyra

"Lately, I've been praying hard." Kyra heard her mother murmur while she was sleeping on her mother's lap.

"If only your father realized how precious and strong you are, he would stop obsessing over that legendary cosmic being and focus all his attention on you." Her mother brushed away the hair that obscured Kyra's long eyelashes.

"If only my light could reach his heart, I wonder if he would be purged by his curse any further?"

Kyra woke up from her trance and managed to avoid her father's sword. Her left leg is trembling slightly. The tingling sensation of the curse eating away at her other leg is purging her.

She won't last long. She needs to finish this. She charged ahead and clashed swords with her father. He sidestepped and sliced to cut a gash in Kyra's ribs. She managed to deflect it but sustained wounds.

The blood that was supposed to be red is now black. It's gushing out of her body, purging her skin even more. Her father made no indication that he noticed this. His eyes are bloodshot red. His sword emit black aura that screams death to anything that is hit by it.

He continued to pounce on her non stop. His attacks are vicious and ruthless. Ava had a hard time defending herself. She was forced to defend and retreat. She keeps losing her balance because of her impaired leg.

The sounds of swords clashing filled the whole poisoned field. That single ray of light approached them.

"Mother!" Kyra thrust upward and managed to land a cut on her father's skin.

"Mother, you need to get out of here!" She abandoned her father and fled to the location of the single ray of light. But before she can reach out her hand, a heavy object slam against her, flinging her across the ground.

She groan in pain and coughed up blood. That hard fall caused some of her bones to break. She struggled to get up.

"Silver," she whispered. She looked down at her blackened hands. "Silver where are you?"

"Take mother away from here." She pleaded. But there was no response.

Where is her vines? Could it possibly can't come here because of the heavy corruption? Kyra gritted her teeth. Looks like she needs to fight without receiving help from her power this time. The figure of her domineering father is coming. His sword was raised in the sky. The black curse was like a legion of small birds crowding around him.

It was suffocating and stifling to watch. But she doesn't want to give up yet. At least, if she dies today, her mother must survive.

The king sent down his sword to pierce Kyra's heart. Kyra immediately rolled to the side to avoid the death blade. She tried to get up from the ground, but her father wouldn't let her. He kicked her down to the ground, forcing her to slam into the poisonous earth.

The black smoke sizzled and tingled her skin. Then it purged her cheeks and went directly to her left eye. In a span of few seconds, Kyra is one eyed blind. Without giving her a chance to rest, her father sent down another kick. This time, it was her right moving leg.

Kyra screamed in pain. She raised her hand with the sword to resist, but it was kicked away by her father.

"NO!" Kyra screamed, and another voice screamed with her.

Mother!

Kyra struggled against her father's foot. At her left, she felt a ray of light shooting past her scalp. Not long afterwards, the leg was removed from her head. She quickly scrambled to her feet.

But her right leg has sustained considerable damage. She can no longer stand properly.

"Kyra, get out of here. You are no match for him." With only one eye staring at her mother, Kyra found out her mother had long been contaminated by the curse.

Just like her.

She stifled the sob rising in her throat and forced down the horrible feeling she was holding back.

"Mother, you are in no shape to fight." It was true. Because of the corruption, her mother's face has half rotted. No, it wasn't just the face, it was half of her body that had been corrupted.

The process was obviously slow. But the result was obvious. There's no saving her mother now. She only had a few minutes before she died.

Kyra realized all this in a split second and did all she could to suppress her rage.

"We're going to kill him."

Her mother blatantly refused. "We're no match for him. You'd better seek refuge first. Let me stop him."

"Mother, the World Tree is dying."

Her mother stiffened. Kyra continued. "I was just there. And Lester…" she struggled to keep her voice calm, but she was visibly shaking. "He's dead. Along with the other faeries we tried to rescue. The World Tree's leaves are falling off at a rapid rate. Mother, there's no longer a safe place left. Demons have destroyed towns and faery lives are declining because of the poison he was spreading. Even if it's the last thing we'll do, we need to kill him. "

Her mother was silent. Because half of her face has rotten black, Kyra can't see her expression well. But the glimmer of intense rage was evident in her eyes. Kyra clutch her mother's hand.

Her mother squeezed her hand and then said, "I never regret having you as my child. But I deeply regretted letting this man be the father of my daughter."

Kyra let out a short laugh. "If the World Tree let us reborn... Mother, are you willing to give birth to me again?"

"You will always be my child."

With that said, the black heavy mist surrounding them rises up in the air and engulfs them in pitch blackness. Kyra let go of her mother's hand and charged straight at the incoming figure.

It doesn't matter if she can't stand straight. It doesn't matter if she dies today. What matters most is that she's going to bring this monster down with her.

Her sword clashed against her father's sword. It was difficult to see his face or shadow. What Kyra follows is the direction of the glint of his sword. She had seen him many times to know what his fighting techniques were.
