There was a mercenary guild and an Adventures' guild in the GreyForest town. Since the quest said that he need to become an adventurer, he had given up on the idea of joining the mercenary guild. Rex himself believed that becoming an adventurer is the best choice because the mercenary guild is also like the military.
He does not want to work under someone, Rex preferred to make his decisions by himself. Rex gathered all the documents, it felt like he was going to give an interview and he has no experience at all in these things.
Lucia was against the idea of him becoming an adventurer as it is considered one of the most dangerous professions. Many adventurers don't even live more than five years. However, Rex was somehow able to convince her by saying that he would be fine.
Lucia felt a little distant from Rex, after all, he was not her son. She blamed his days in the military and considered him to be changed a lot. Alvis had a gentle personality and clung to Lucia while Rex was mostly a silent type and maintained a distance from everyone.
Rex rarely went out of the house, but today he was going to find out the procedures and all the details about becoming an Adventurer but before he was leaving he suddenly heard a commotion outside.
" Hey, Missy, I have paid you enough, this is all you get for bread." A group of four people were making a commotion on the bakery counter.
" Oye brats! Don't disturb my staff."
" What are you gonna do old lady? You are not my type so get out of my way." The man shoved Lucia when she tried to speak out to the rude people on behalf of her staff.
Rex was hesitating whether or not he should get involved or not but seeing Lucia brushed aside made him angry. The man turned to bother the staff again so he didn't see what came from behind.
Someone grabbed the man by the hair and slammed him to the ground. Everyone was dumbfounded because of the sudden event. Rex had slammed the man too hard on the floor and then he kicked stomped over the stomach making him feel even more pain. Everything was too fast, one of the people from group four took action and tried to throw a fist it was grabbed by Rex.
" Who the hell are you? Aaargh!" He shouted as Rex gripped his hand tightly with all his strength.
" Alvis, stop." Lucia finally saw who was the man that came to save her. The other two adventurers backed off and took out a dagger each to attack him. However, as they got close to attack, they hit nothing and got punched in the nose.
In just a matter of seconds, the four-man group was down with bloody and teary faces.
" Are you okay?" He finally went over to check on Lucia.
" Alvis, are you hurt? They used daggers."
" Yes, I am alright. I will make sure to kill these punks, you stay here." He was going to exact more punishment on them because his anger was not gone. Lucia was a very nice person, a mother he had always wished for in his previous life, making Lucia even more precious than a real mother.
" Wait, Alvis, Let them go. It's fine, everything is okay." She grabbed the hand of her son, she could feel the anger on his face and could tell that he wasn't lying about killing.
" She is a right young man." An Old man wearing a guard uniform came. " We will deal with this matter."
Rex remembered this man through Alvis' memories, He was the guard captain of the town, Alle Clark. He had helped them several times in the past even before Alvis went to the military.
" My men will come and take them away." The old man said.
" Yes, it's alright son, I am also fine. You had to go to the guild today to register, right? You should go there, they only do registration till the afternoon."
" I will go there tomorrow, are you really fine?" He said as he inspected his mother's head and hands.
" You don't have to worry, I will be patrolling here today. You can attend to your work." The old man said. " I will keep your mother safe."
" Why would you? Go take care of yourself old man." He said.
" Ahem! You can trust Alle, he will keep the key safe."
Suddenly something clicked in Rex's mind when he heard Lucia use the first name of the old man. ' It couldn't be, right?' He thought as he looked at her mother with wide eyes and then at the old man.
It had become too awkward, ' I am just thinking too far, this old man is not worthy.' Although he called Alle an old man, he was just a little bit older than Lucia around 45 or something.
" I ran as soon as I heard some people were causing a commotion in your bakery. They must be newbies around here." He said as he didn't find any affiliation while checking their clothes.
" It's alright Alle. Nothing much happened." Lucia replied, Rex could hear other girls in the bakery murmur something annoying to him.
" I see, your son, he–" Alle paused as he looked at Rex, a head taller than him and with an extraordinary appearance, Rex stood there glaring dagger at him. " Ahem, He is a fine man now, what a hunk he has become."
" I am going mom, I should have made an example out of these bugs so that they would have never come to this place. And you, I don't think you have any business in the bakery either so get going now." He said as he pointed at Alle.
" Ah, Actually, I will wait here, I think I would like some cake for home," Alle said.
" It's alright, he will leave, Alvis, go or you will be late. We will talk about this later." Lucia said. He could not refuse Lucia, it will make him seem like someone who is overprotective.
He left without saying anything else, without looking back but before going he dragged three of the bleeding men out of the bakery like a pile of trash. The man was conscious but unable to stand up because Rex's punch was too strong and it was three times stronger compared to when he was on earth.
[ You did well.] Even the voice praised him for this act. He knew was right this time.
" Sigh, Lucia, Your son is too dangerous. It felt like I was facing a dangerous beast. You worried over nothing, if he was like this in the military, there is no way he could have died." Alle said as finally saw that Rex was no longer in his view.
" Don't make it seem like a good thing, I thought he was going to kill."
" He was, I am sure of it, He had the intention to kill."
" God, what happened to my gentle son," Lucia said.
