Alvis, the boy whose body Rex had taken over was weak after months of treatment. Rex found out that he woke up after six months when the war ended. Fortunately, he was on the winning side, the voice also explained Alvis' life so far.
Alvis Lucent was the second son of Baron Cohen from his second wife. After the death of his father, he along with his mother and sister were kicked out of the Baron's household when the first son became the Baron. His family was given measly compensation, it was hard to earn for his family. His mother used the compensation money to open a small bakery and had to do all the labour by herself. They even changed their surnames to Lucent because they didn't want to be bothered by the Baron family anymore.
Alvis was just fourteen years old when he volunteered for the military and left the home so that his family could get some support. He had participated in the war that was going on for 5 years and had sent a lot of money back home by always fighting on the frontlines. During the war, his mother had written many times that she wanted him to come back but Alvis couldn't do that, he wanted to achieve something to become a noble once again. Alas, he failed and even lost his life, on the brink of death he made the deal with the voice that Rex first heard in this world.
Alvis was a fit young man, Rex had to admit this, even after the treatment there were still muscles on his body. Rex started to train himself from the next day he came to rehab, the rehab provided enough food as one wants however the food mostly was tasteless and healthy.
In the first month, he let his body gain back his muscles and weight and only did a few lights exercises. He gained a little but that was not enough, however, it was enough to start training the flexibility, endurance and build strength.
He was given food as much as he wanted in the rehab. All of these facilities showed that this place had good governance, and Rex was quite satisfied with his treatment. So far nothing bad happened during the training, his internal organs were quite bad so he was afraid that it might be better to let his body rest a little more.
However, there was a time limit to gain back his lost strength. Strangely many things were similar to earth, when he asked the voice he didn't get any reply so he didn't ask. It doesn't bother him that much because at least it was not a primitive world.
The rehab staff was quite impressed with how Rex was dealing with his situation. His burnt skin made him look hideous so at first, people tried to always stay away from him. But he was still friendly to everyone despite that and even helped the staff with the other patients. This helped him gain a friendly environment around himself.
After three months some government officials came to decide on his compensation. He was informed that he would be paid 4 Gold and 9 silver coins for his five years of service, it was a retirement compensation from the military as he denied that he would no longer want to be in the military and would like to go back home. Along with the compensation he was also given the certificates of achievements from the military, which would help him get a job easily somewhere as a guard or something similar, it will also help him get several govt benefits.
His compensation was a big fortune, so he'd not need to worry about money for a little while. Having his tensions reduced he felt a little relieved and continued his training. He needed to focus solely on this for now because of the penalty.
In just four months he was able to make his body as flexible as he had in his previous life with the help of rigorous exercises that he knew in his previous life, he also had the same strength and endurance but his voice was a little unconvinced but accepted the completion of the quest. But it didn't give the reward and only said that he would give it after five months are completed.
Soon he received the news that Alvis' mother would be coming to meet him. He felt a little scared and guilty because he would be living someone else's life. However, he convinced himself that there is nothing wrong with it as Alvis himself had agreed to it before his death.
The Voice said that he could not let Alvis' family know about this or else it would kill him. He had just started living so he didn't want to die, this time he put his feelings aside and thought that it would be the reasonable thing to go with the flow for now.
He went to a meeting area of the rehab facility to meet his mother Alvis. As he entered the place he saw a woman in her forties, older than he was in his previous life.
The woman slowly approached her son, she recognised her son even after five years and even with a half-burnt face and a missing eye. She was careful and scared to even hug her son, fearing that it would hurt if she tried to embrace him. Tears flowed through her eyes, she did not know what to feel.
After the war, she didn't receive any word from the military about what happened to her son. The soldiers are given name tags but Alvis had lost his name tag so it was hard to recognise him. After almost a year she finally found out about her son, she was happy about the fact that her son was alive, but now seeing his condition tore her heart once again.
" I am fine mom, everything will be alright from now on." He said in his hoarse voice trying to assure her.
