Slowly Rex opened his eyes and looked around himself, his face and entire body were covered with bandages. When he woke up, there were others like him around his bed, they were not awake yet. only one of his eyes was fine, the other was missing. As he inspected his body, he had burnt marks all over his body.
He didn't have the strength to stand up and he was feeling quite thirsty and dizzy to shout but he somehow sat on the bed. The room didn't have any advanced medical facilities but it still was a nursing facility. Suddenly when he was looking to find out more about his surroundings someone came into the room.
" Waah!" A female wearing a black dress and a white apron screamed because of being surprised and dropped the things on the ground. " Ah, I am sorry." She apologised after seeing Rex was startled as well. " You can't blame me for being surprised."
Something was wrong here, the woman in front of him was speaking a language he didn't know but somehow he could understand it.
" Looks like you are dazed because you just woke up." The nurse said as she waved her hand in front of his face. " I will go call the doctor." She said.
Rex had so many things to ask but felt weak to even speak. ' How am I alive? I was killed.' Then suddenly the memories of what happened after his death came to his mind, about the war and the fire raining down from the sky.
The nurse came back with a doctor and with some documents. The doctor came near him and waved his hand, Rex reacted to this.
" He isn't blinded, What about hearing? can you hear me?" The man asked. Rex nodded in confirmation when the doctor asked.
After that doctor did some other checks and then started to look at his papers.
" Soldier, you were lucky to survive in that meaningless war. Because of your burnt face, we weren't able to identify you so we don't know who is a part of your family or not, so you can tell us your details so we can reach out to your family."
' Soldier? Family?'
[ Answer- Name: Alvis Lucent. You are now in the possession of Alvis' body, so you will have to live his life.]
' What' He was startled by the voice in his head.
[ Just answer like that, or You are dead.] Just as the voice said an unimaginable pain was felt by him. The doctor became concerned with this behaviour.
' You can torture me all you want, I will not follow anyone's order just because they are threatening to kill me. Unless there is a good reason behind it and until you give me a full explanation.'
[ Fine, Alvis died in that battle, we used his body to host your soul. Now you are the owner, however, in return for allowing us to use his body, Alvis requested that we take care of his family. It's the right thing to do that you live as Alvis from now on.] The voice explained.
Rex thought for a bit as breathed after the pain was gone. He understood a few things and found more questions that he wanted to ask but he had to deal with the doctor first. He could ask the voice for more details later.
" My name is Alvis Lucent," Rex said in a hoarse voice.
" Are you okay boy?" The doctor asked.
" Yes, I am fine."
" Alright, Alvis Lucent, We will look for your family and inform them that you survived."
The doctor said and left the room, it was now time for him to clear his doubts.
[ I can not tell you anything, for now, however, I will tell you one thing. This life is a trial for you and I am tasked to see if you behave righteously]
Rex was not satisfied with the answer but he accepted it. He wanted to live a normal life while doing good things for society. However, in this case, he doesn't know whether or not he should be thankful because he will not have freedom.
In the evening he was informed that he would be moved to a rehab facility where many injured soldiers were. The food was distributed at the night, there was enough to eat for a grown man. Rex had never been picky about food but it seems that this world also lacked when it came to food. The bread was hard to heat and the soup had not tasted at all, but soon Rex remembered that it was the patient's food.
Rex was not able to walk without the help of crutches. He somehow got himself into a carriage and followed the instruction of the staff until he reached the rehab. The staff explained a few things one the way.
" The doctor has recommended for you to stay in rehab for six months, You will have to leave after six months. You can leave early if your family comes to take you or even if you want to leave yourself. Your compensation will be given to you as per your five years of military service."
The Rehab was a quiet place as many soldiers had already completed their rehab while the remaining are mentally disabled ones waiting for the day they die. It was pitiful to watch some of them, however, Rex did not mind living here. He needed rehab to deal with all the chaos in his mind, this included things from his previous life and even things in his new life.

The voice sounded a little threatening while it explained what will happen if Rex failed this quest. However, it's not like he can deny it, the voice had shown him that if it wants, it can kill him anytime, he had no choice however he was not annoyed because he was willing to get back into shape.
