Chereads / Cursed: Into the darkeness / Chapter 6 - I am attacked

Chapter 6 - I am attacked

An overwhelming surge of power moved through my entire body the moment I took on the form of a fey. Come to feel it, I felt stronger and better maybe because I was being positive about this whole me being a half-fey thing.

Nancy was surprised by my new form like something wrong had just happened. She tilted her head while staring at me, "Strange," she muttered.

"What--what's wrong?" I asked,

"Nothing," she rushed to answer which was scary. "Try the fire spell once again, but I need you to start small,"

She put her palm under my hand and then gazed into my eyes once more, "Focus," she said slowly.

I sighed and then did as she had told me, I imagined the fire and then a small yellow flame appeared on my palm. I hadn't even thought of the casting but the magic around me had responded to my command.

"This form keeps you connected to magic, and like us, you will need to find a familiar to avoid abrupt shifting," she said. I didn't even know what a familiar was.

"What's a familiar?" I asked,

Ned decided to show up and then answered my question, familiars were animals that most supernatural creatures carried. They helped them shift between forms and some use them to store magical power and life force. Think of them like pets that you must have because your life depends on them. But that was a problem for another time.

" You've passed the first course of your training let's see how fast you can make that spell happen," Ned said then released a fireball that hit me and sent me flying about a few meters away from my original position. The pain only lasted a second before my skin recovered.

Wow, I thought, I have never seen such regeneration.

He shot another fireball at me,

And I put up a shield without casting and it blocked his attack.

"Good, you're learning," he commented, then launched multiple fireballs all at me.

I put up an even bigger shield that was destroyed by the fifth fireball. The flaming balls hit me even harder, they pushed me with force into a pile of crushed cars, that had been organized at the end of Junkyard.

This time the pain didn't last a second, the flames hadn't gone out yet, and they were on my body still burning.

"You think magic is easy just because you have Sandra's power…" Ned's feet left the ground and he was now airborne. I looked clearly and a transparent pair of wings appeared on his back, they were shimmering with silver and gold lines.

I now know it, Ned was a fairy, I didn't know why I hadn't noticed the wings until now. He then pointed his arm at me while facing me from up, his fingers flickered with electricity.

"You will die," he had a murderous gaze in his eyes. My eyes widened from terror when he released a storm of lightning bolts at me.

I didn't know how, but the moment I put my hands forward and looked away with my closed eyes, a magical force field formed above me and swallowed all the lightning that was coming for me.

Ned was shocked for a second, before the force field returned his attack, almost frying him in the process if it wasn't for the magic shield he rushed to put up. The attack was so loud that we had to leave before we attract any unwanted attention.

My bracelet had short-circuited maybe from the power I hardly even knew about.

*********

Later that day, I had to walk back home. It was now dark, and the night sky was looking beautiful as usual. Nancy had helped me learn how to keep the balance between my human and Fey form and she also told me that when am ready we should go to Tlavacus: the supernatural city under Mayfair and acquire a familiar to help with my shifting. Her familiar was a spider that would camouflage as a hairpin since it was magical. She also told me about the rules that govern the supernatural world and one of them was the reason why no human remembered Sandra Drake; because of the curse that was put on humans to protect the supernatural so if a human spots a supernatural in their original form they would forget them after approximately thirteen minutes, sometimes even five.

My house was on clover street, far from school just how liked it. I hated the idea of being close to school, you do something bad, they report and your mom is already at school without giving you even enough time to make up an explanation.

I just made a left turn and finally reached clover street, I noticed a black BMW parked in front of our house and by the number plate I could tell that it was for a minister. It had to be dad, he hadn't been home in months and was supposed to come last Saturday but since I was in a hospital, mom had to come and he had to cover for her at work.

I was about to continue when I sensed someone standing behind me.

"Who's there?" I asked and hurried to turn.

There was nothing.

'hepitoe' someone yelled out a cast I have never heard of. A  lightning bolt then appeared out of nowhere heading for me,

I yelped out of the way and the lightning hit the car parking in front of my house, it exploded instantly and set on fire. I was about to run but something pulled me and threw me into the burning car.

I shifted to my fey form and then jumped out of the car. Healing all my wounds, my school uniform was fireproof, so don't get worried, but I can't say the same about my books and bag.

The front door opened and my mother stepped out with my dad "what is going on…." she complained only to see the car on fire and me standing right in front of it.

"Ralph," she was surprised to see. But her attention quickly shifted to the cloaked shadow figures that appeared on the street each with their hands flickering with sparks of electricity. She gave my dad a wary look before they moved forward and stood in front of me.

"Mom…"

"Just stay behind us honey," she said. "These are dark Fey," she warned me. Something about her tone gave me a feeling that she knew this was going to happen at some point.

A green ball of energy formed in her hand then she blasted at one of the shadows. It teleported out of the way and the ball missed.

My father stepped forward.

"What have you come for?" he asked, "I thought we had a deal." he sounded serious.

That deal was centuries ago, Adrian Tally," one of the shadowed figures spoke, it had a creaky high pitched voice of an old lady who might have a terrible cough. "And we are not here because of that deal, we are here for him." it raised its nasty gray finger at me.

"He killed the queen, the demon lord wishes to see him." it continued. Then gazed at me with the ugliest stare I have ever seen. I could see its face but its blood-red eyes sent a cold chill up my spine.

"Am sorry but I can't give you my son," my mom resented, "tell that demon lord of yours to go to hell." she sounded like a total badass.

The shadow laughed deliriously as if my mom had joked about something that she shouldn't have joked about, "You humans feel big about yourselves," it said. "Kill them," it commanded the shadow on its right that stepped then took on the form of a humanoid monster, it had curved horns with a face of a man but purple, a pair of leathery wings with holes on its back, and purple colored skin.

My father looked as calm as ever, he didn't even bother to flinch even a bit.

The demon attacked him first but he immediately stopped it using his mind and then crashed it into the street, with a massive force.

"You dark fey piss me off sometimes," he said, then snapped his fingers and the entire demon exploded into a heap of sand. All the other shadows disappeared after seeing the power of a minister in action. Only one shadow remained,

"Let's get inside," my mom grabbed my arm and pulled me as we both head into the house. "it's time you know the truth," she said in a worrying tone.

We left my dad behind to talk to the shadowy figure. Something was going on and it is the reason why my father didn't cast a magic circle or a spell before when he vanquished the demon looking monster
