The next day didn't at all go well for me. First, I opened my eyes slowly only to realize that I wasn't on my bed, but on the ceiling facing the bed from up.
I yelled. And I was released--crashing down with my face landing on the floor. That wasn't the weird part though. The weird part was that when I looked at my hands, my skin seemed whiter or to be more clear, it was pale very pale.
That was enough to send my blood rushing. I quickly stood up and ran to the bathroom to see myself through the mirror.
I couldn't believe what I was looking at, my hair had grown longer and my skin had turned pale. And my ears, well, we're pointed at the tips.
I was turning into a fey. The curse was happening right now.
I was still in a panic moment when my school bracelet beeped and Miss Eloise's high-pitched voice suddenly sounded from my room, "Ralph Tally," she called.
The sound of her voice just sent me trembling after what I had seen and heard last evening. I had to show her that I was okay in order not to raise any suspicion.
"Yes, Miss Eloise. I am in the bathroom," I mumbled, trying to look through my laundry basket for anything that could help me hide the changes on my face. I tossed all my dirty clothes aside, and I don't know how they got there, but my mom's head sock was at the bottom of the basket.
I quickly put it over my head to cover my hair and the pointed ears. I had to look the brown head sock I had just put over my head, so I picked up a brown sweater to flow with the head sock.
I stepped out of the bathroom, looking the calmest I have ever been and the first thing I set my eyes on was a holographic version of Miss Eloise standing in my room. She looked annoyed with a tablet in her right hand.
"I see you are having quite the fashion disaster this morning, Mr. Ralph Tally," she emphasized my name like she had been waiting for this moment to happen for so long.
All I could think about was that she may have found out that I was at the mansion last evening and she was here to talk about that or worse, kill me in cold blood. Or maybe she had sensed my aura, chi, spiritual force. I don't how this whole supernatural, mystical mojo stuff works.
"Well," she demanded
"Good morning, Miss Eloise…"
"You were detected using unauthorized magic at Three O'clock in the morning, Ralph Tally," she hissed. Here's the thing I don't like doing magic. I rarely performed magic because I disliked the idea of being able to mess with the laws of nature. I believed that the world was better off without magic in it, so Miss Eloise accusing me of performing magic was impossible unless casting spells in your sleep was a thing.
"I think there's some misunderstanding, Miss Eloise, I. . . "
"You performed advanced spatial magic," she interrupted me. "Do you know how many rules you've broken Mr. RALPH," she stared at me with disgust.
Much as I wanted to defend myself, I had no idea of what was going on with me at all, and was this some way of taking me to the man she was talking to last evening?
I just couldn't think straight at the moment.
"Your punishment will be decided by the disciplinary committee, and as of right now you have weekend detention starting at nine and ending at four o'clock," she said then vanished leaving me stunt by the idea of weekend detention in magic training school.
Anyway, it's not like I had plans for the weekend. This was a trap to lure me in and take me to the man. But I also saw this as an opportunity for me to find out what was going on. But right now--I pulled the head sock off and my body had gone back to normal, which was a relief because I didn't have a single clue on how I could hide a pair of elf ears and very pale skin.
By nine, I was at the high school, most of it was empty of course, apart from a few evil teachers who printed written tests for the students.
I walked to my classroom. Which was the detention room if am following the right directions. I pushed the door open and to my surprise, I wasn't the only one who had been called in. There were three more students, two of which I knew. One was Ned Feddlestick from my class: it was strange he was here because he was the smartest and most disciplined student in the entire school. I hadn't been here long enough, but I knew that he was an exchange student from the school's branch in London, but not everyone believed that because his mother is one of the most powerful ministers, more powerful than both my parents combined. He was in the front seat of the first row reading a novel. I didn't say anything to him and he also didn't bother to even take one look at me.
Next, from the corner of the room was Nancy Danbury. She wasn't in my class, but everyone knew her. The most notorious girl in the entire school. She was an absolute troublemaker in a higher class. Her hair was black, she had powdered her face and so it looked white at a certain point, she was mean tough, and scary and I didn't want to cross paths with her. Her muscles frightened me.
I slowly head for my seat which was at the back of the class.
Miss Eloise then rushed in with a tablet in her hands. She scanned the room with her good eye, "Great you are all here," she shut the door behind her.
"Do you know why you are all here?"
"Because we used unauthorized magic," Nancy sneered at Miss Eloise.
"Miss--Nancy---don't--" a glare of seriousness shimmered from Miss Eloise's eyes that for sure made Nancy straighten her posture and apologize, "but you're right because you all used unauthorized magic," she continued then mentioned all our offenses along with the magic we had used.
Nancy used advanced fire magic and had blown up a trash can to prank a colleague that works at the Cheesy Burger downtown the explosion had caused fright and she was almost arrested if the school didn't decide to take action. Ned used time magic which was illegal due to the dangers it causes. And finally, I used advanced spatial magic and I didn't even know why I used it in the first place I had no memory of doing magic at all, I was waiting for her to tell me where I traveled to but she said nothing.
"As a member of the disciplinary committee of Mayfair academy, you have all been sentenced to twenty hours of community service, and twenty points have been deducted from your annual performance," she said.
This was bad, points were the most important things in this school, they determined whether you should be promoted to the next class or not. You needed at least eighty points to get you to the next class, but I have been failing my tests all week so I don't think I had any at all.
"Mr. Ralph," Miss Eloise called.
Yes, ma'am," I mumbled,
"Please follow me," she said while walking out of the room and standing still in the hallway waiting for me.
I stood up, then marched out to meet with Miss Eloise. I could only think of one thing, she knows I was there yesterday evening, and she knows I was eavesdropping on her conversation.
She closed the door so that no one could hear what we were going to talk about.
"I knew I recognized that scent of yours somewhere," she said
I knew the right thing to do, I said, "Yes, ma'am."
She bent her neck and gave me a firm rather terrifying look that made me think if she was going to change form and then suck on my blood till I'm dead. "I know you were there Ralph you can stop pretending,"
Oh my god she knows, I thought nervously, should I run? No, she has bat wings that would be a dull move to take on,
I said, "I- I don't know what you are talking about, ma'am."
"Sandra Drake was real, Ralph." saying that killed all my nerves, I knew she was real but I needed someone to explain to me.
I said nothing.
"You just have to enter this room and we tell you the truth,"
"We?"
Miss Eloise opened the door and the first thing that shocked was Ned and Nancy, they were fey in disguise. Ned looked pale, still with his azure long hair and with a pair of long pointed ears popping from the sides of his head. Nancy looked the same, but she had a pair of horns shaped like tree branches on her head.
