Chapter 18 - The auction in the mansion (I)

"Mrs Houston I hope all is going well." Mrs Jones said smiling as she approached where we were. "Of course ma'am, No problem at all." My mom told her.

"Well am glad to hear that, Chris was just telling me you were an amazing person to work with and I was like I told you didn't I." She said laughing, My mom smiled. "I really appreciate the compliment Mrs Jones, And I also enjoyed working with them and am also glad you gave me this amazing opportunity ma'am." My mom said.

"Oh that's nothing to be thankful for Sarah, I can see Akira is also helping out here." She said as when she saw me wearing an apron. "She insisted to help but no worries ma'am, She's really good, Nothing is going to go wrong I assure you." My mom told her in case she might be worried about a flaw being in the whole cooking process due to my contribution.

"Haha wasn't even thinking of that, I just thought it's nice having a very supportive daughter, My girl doesn't care about what I do nor offers any support, It's like we are strangers to each other, Just wish we had the type of mother-daughter relationship you have with your daughter." She said to my mom.

"I know deep down that your daughter still loves you more than anything even if she doesn't wants to show it, That's how teenagers are ma'am, Both me and my daughter aren't perfect, We have our differences too ma'am, Alot." My mom told Mrs Jones.

"I know, And honestly I played a big part in how she came to not like me anymore but it's okay, I just hopes her view of me changes for the better, Thanks for the encouragement Sarah." She told my mom with a Curt smile. "Anytime ma'am" My mom replied beaming.

"Ok everyone." Mrs Jones called the attention of everybody, "I trust you should rounding up now because in less than two hours the guests would start arriving and I want a very beautiful setup for the feast tonight, It's going to commence by nine immediately after the auction ends, I trust you guys not to disappoint me." She told everyone.

"Yes ma'am, You can expect a very beautiful and appetizing setup for the night." Both Chris and Mia assured her.

"Very well then." She concluded with a signature smile and left.

"Gather up chefs." Chris said and everyone did except for me. I stood beside a countertop and watched as Chris addressed the remaining chefs with both my mom and Mia by his sides. But I could still hear what he was saying and decided to pay massive attention as if I was the one whom he was addressing.

"So now we have less than three hours to clear up and setup everything before the feast tonight and being the pre-crastinator that i am i would very much love for us to finishing setting up even before the auction commences and that can be achieved only if we spilt up into two groups.

The first group would be in charge of the cleaning activities while the second group would be setting up the dishes at the Grand Hall." The chef instructed and they all nodded.

Chef Mia was the one in charge of the cleaning party, While Chris and my mom led the other party. We Began working immediately, I went to assist my mom as she began to place the already expertly dished delicacies and dessert onto the food trolley cart, The others did the same too and by the time they were done the carts had already been occupied and ready for transportation.

I followed my mom as she began to move the trolley out of the kitchen while others followed suit.

I had no clue where the so-called Grand Hall was located in this big mansion but I think my mom knows where it is, She has been working here for a month now. I wondered how many children Mrs Jones has, I knew it couldn't just be only one child she has because this Mansion was way too big for a family of three, It could be mistaken for a museum which I must say really looked like one.

I stared at the many different paintings on the walls as we went on, They reminded me of Mr Steve's living room and Mr Steve himself, The paintings looked expensive and it also made me wonder what they are used for or why people cherish them alot.

"Why do people hang paintings like this on their walls mom?" I asked her as we kept moving, "It's mostly for beauty of the home Kira, And some people really appreciates artworks." She said while moving the trolley steadily and carefully her eyes also never straying anywhere except for her front.

"Ok but the mansion is already beautiful enough why buy expensive paintings just to beautify it more." I said not still seeing the use of artworks in the home and not in the museum.

"It's the owner's choice Kira, It's how they wish to portray their home." She told me.

"And also.... They are kept for auctioning too, So as for it to be sold to the highest bidder for a large amount of money." She concluded.

"No wonder there's too many of it" I thought to myself as it all had started to make sense to me.

"What items do you think will be auctioned tonight?" I asked my mom as we got to the front the elevator that'll take us to the next floor where the Grand Hall is.

"Honestly Kira I don't know, A lot of valuable items would be auctioned tonight." She told me.

"Are these paintings going to be among those items." I questioned as we boarded the not minding the people that were with us.

"Probably Aki, You know what, We are in the middle of work here so this is not the right place to discuss about this so let's continue when we get home tonight." She said and I nodded.

I noticed the other chefs were minding their businesses as a professional chef should and that made me felt stupid for asking my mom silly questions about paintings and auctions.

I knew what an auction was, I had read somethings about them in one of my dad's few college textbooks so it wasn't strange hearing it now. It's just that I hadn't witness one before and I hope to today.

I was mesmerized by the view of the large hallway as soon as we stepped out of the elevator, It was so beautifully decorated like the rest of the mansion.

There was a large door located at the other end of the hallway with chefs strolling in and out of it, We head over to the door into the Grand Hall itself. The hall was very large and magnificent, I was blown away by the mesmerizing beauty of it.

It was like as if a grand ball like one of Cinderella stories our class teacher had told us when I was in kindergarten wanted to take place in it and I swear I could have bumped into somebody if I hadn't been so careful.

The room was litted with warm neon lights and There were like fifty tables meant for two people in it, Each with a white tablecloth and a vase with flowers on it.

Large beautiful curtains were shielding the big room from the lights through the massive glass windows. I could hear Violinists and pianist playing from the background already.

"It's so beautiful." My mom commented visibly appealed by the beauty of the big room. I nodded in agreement with her as we brought the food trolleys to a stand beside the other trolleys.
