The food setup went well and fast, We were done in no time even before the guest started arriving just like Chris had planned.
It was seven in the evening already and Guests whom were mostly elderly people in their fifties upward had started arrive in their luxurious cars wearing luxurious dresses and suits.
The auction itself was to take place outside the mansion at a very beautiful open space garden which had been beautifully set up by the decorators in the afternoon while we were busy doing our thing.
My mom told me the auction was going to last for two hours before the guests starts to come in for the party, It was going to be a long night.
I hadn't seen Mr Jones and I wondered who he was or what he did. Was he an auctioneer? A business man? I just don't get and I don't want to bother my mom with any more questions so I decided to keep it to myself untill when we get home so I can ask her everything I want to ask like she said.
"Now's not the time." I told myself as I stood in front of one of the glass Windows in the big hall.
The whole parking lot was filled up in no time as all guests had arrived including the mayor. The whole place was heavily guarded and the guests were exchanging pleasantries to one another, I spotted Mrs Jones too, she was talking to one of the numerous guests at tonight's auction. I then saw a man walk up to her and place his left hand on her shoulders endearingly also smiling at the guest she was speaking to.
"Must be her husband." I thought, He looks slightly old Maybe in his mid fifties or so, He is a bit short and his dark coloured hair has some greyish streak in it. He was wearing a grey suit in contrast to his wife's white gown.
All the guests finally settled down with their bidder card and the auction was about to begin with the auctioneer standing behind a podium with a gavel in his hand and some ladies behind him standing beside items which were covered and were to be reveal when they're to be auctioned.
I was so excited that I was getting to see a live auction but my happiness was short-lived when my mom came over to where I was spectating and told me to go get her phone that was in her bag in one of the staff private rooms which was downstairs.
I was annoyed with the errand but I had no choice but to go as she is not allowed to leave the hall and she also wanted to call my dad to tell him we might come home late tonight or earliest tomorrow.
I went out of the big room with a frown into the hallway. I saw that the elevator was guarded by securities but when I told them I was one of the chef's daughter they let me in.
I located the staffs room immediately as soon as I got out of the elevator on the second floor. It was one of the many rooms in another large hallway, There was nobody in when I went inside the room.
I heard people cheering and applauding at the auction outside and this heightened my eagerness to see how the auction was going. I finally found my mom's bag in the midst of other stuffs and quickly grabbed it and took the phone out of it.
Mom was right, Dad had been calling for a while now. I saw twenty four missed calls when I turned on my mom's phone, Sixteen from my dad, seven from my grandma and one unknown number.
"Jeez this is a lot of missed calls, dad would be very worried." I said to myself as I quickly rushed out of the room almost bumping into a staff lady.
"Hey watch where you going kid." She shrieked and I quickly apologized to her. The elevator was in use by the time I got there so I decided to take the stairs, The whole stairscases were constructed spirally so it was pretty tiring going up.
But despite my rushing to go give my mom her phone, But it didn't escape my notice that two men wearing black all through which was odd were sneaking into the hallway on a the left side of the second floor.
It didn't make sense to me, Why would they be sneaking when every other person was walking normally, It only means they are up to no good.
I took a step back to see what they wanted to do, One of them was working on a door handle trying to open it, While the other was keeping guard for the other person and at the same time looking at his watch while also communicating with another person through his earpiece.
I made sure not to be seen by them as I carefully watched what they were doing. One of the houseworkers appeared out of nowhere and was heading to the direction of the hallway where they were.
She couldn't see them from where she was coming from unfortunately but I think they already sense her presence somehow and before she could get to the entrance they had already got in.
I wondered how they did it, It doesn't seem like they used any key or tools to open the door. Lucky for them the lady didn't noticed anything and just went her way, But unlucky for them I did and I am going to report them to the securities.
I planned to go the room where they were and take a picture of them with my mom's phone to use as evidence of their break-in.
I descended the stairs back to the previous floor in a rush, I mistakenly and surprisingly bumped into the same lady I bumped into in the workers room not quite long, She recognized me but luckily this time she didn't freaked out like before but only called after me saying "You know it doesn't hurt to make use of your eyes sometimes kiddo."
I ignored her this time rushing away as I couldn't afford to lose those people that entered that room. "I must get them before they escape." I said to myself.
I totally forget about my mom, The only thing in my head was to catch those thieves red-handed.
I got to the entrance of the room where they entered and tried to open the door but unfortunately it had been locked from behind. "Jeez." I said face palming myself. I should have known better, I mean which thief in his or her right mind would leave the door open while trying to rob a room.
"I should have alerted someone when I had the chance." I said to myself. I stood at the entrance still thinking of what to do, When mom's phone rang again, It was Dad. I was still contemplating on what to do when I heard my name from the stairs above.
It was my mom, Anger clearly visible on her face. "Aki what are you doing there for God's sake." She exclaimed as she came down in an angered rush approaching me where I was.
I didn't know what to tell her as I was confused. "Nothing mom, I just got lost hehe." I lied. "Seriously Kira? Got lost? You never get lost Aki." She told me unbelievingly.
"Am serious mom, This whole building is complicated." I told her gesturing my hands in the air. "I am finding it hard to believe you, But I won't ponder anymore on it, I have other things to do now let's go away from here it's not proper to wander carelessly in someone else's house." She said as she took my hand.
"Mom dad has been calling you for a while now." I told her as we began to leave. "Oh my gosh really!, I knew it." She halted as she collected her phone from my hand.
"Whaatt! Twenty five missed calls!." She shrieked silently and I almost burst into laughter at her display, She quickly called him back while dragging me away at the same time.
"Hello honey, Am so sorry for the delay...." She was telling my dad on the phone but I couldn't hear the rest of the conversation as I looked back at the door where those two thieves had broken into wondering how I was going to get them exposed before it was too late.
