"I think you are mistaken sir I didn't steal any necklace, I was with the rest of the chefs the whole time, They can also testify to it." Mom said with nervousness in her voice.
"I am sorry ma'am but we usually don't take any action against people without evidence so we will need you to cooperate with us to avoid any more charges against you." The man said as he signaled the lady behind to take out the handcuffs.
Grandma told us to stay put as she went to the door. I had began to panic as I listened attentively to the conversation going on between my parents and the FBI.
"Sir I believe my wife is being wrongly accused here, She certainly doesn't know anything about the stolen necklace." Dad defended mom.
"Yes Sarah would never do such a thing, And what for?, We are always contented in what we have and we do not steal from others." Grandma also said.
"I demand evidence from you right now or else I am not going anywhere with you people." Mom said firmly but I knew she was starting to get scared, Even though she knows nothing about the stolen necklace, She still was nervous as she had never been in such a situation before.
"The evidence would be shown to you when we get to the station so for now ma'am I suggest you do not say anything anymore and be cooperative with us because anything you do or say would be used against you in front of the law." The cop lady behind the man who was previously speaking said as she wasted no time in cuffing my mom and dragged her along with them.
Immediately after I saw what the cop did from the dining where me and drew were, I ran towards the door as they were about to take her away with my dad and grandma pleading with them to let her go.
"My mom is innocent!!" I screamed as I got to the porch. They were already at the gate when they heard my shout.
"No she is not unless proven guilty, which she already has with the evidence we have. So kid you will be helping your mom by saying no more." The Man whom I think is their team leader said.
They began to move again, "I saw those thieves that night sir." I said as I went after them. "What are you saying Aki?" My mom inquired.
"Yes mom I saw them." I told her which made them all pause, "Did you say you saw them?" The leader asked me, "Yes i-." I was about to say when my mom cut me off.
"No kira! you didn't see anything, Don't say anything Darling, It's probably a mistake and I am very sure they mistook me for someone else, Don't worry your dad and I are going to sort this out and we will come back home okay, Just don't say anything to anyone." My mom pleaded and assured me at the same time but I know she's only doing that to keep me of the situation at hand.
She doesn't wants me or any of her family involved in this. "Mom but-" I still tried to talk but my grandma didn't let me as she grabbed my hand immediately and led me back into the house while the cops dragged my mom away.
When I looked back, I saw my dad still pleading with them to release my mom because she's innocent but they refuse to listen to him. They drove off as soon as she got into the car with them.
Andrew was standing by the door crying as he watched our mom being taken away, I wasn't able to hold back my tears either as I keep on telling grandma that our mom is innocent.
"Kira we all know that your mom is innocent but there's nothing we can do now, I know they will still find those thieves and your mom will be proven innocent so don't worry my dear your mom will come back home to us." Grandma explained drawing both me and my brother closer to her.
"Let's follow them granny." I pleaded, "Your mom would not like that you know, let's just stay here and pray she would get released." Grandma said to us and that didn't sit well with me.
Pray??, I felt that was useless at the moment because I didn't think praying was going to help my mom out of the situation she was in.
my grandma told Andy to get the Bible so that we can all pray, I sat down on the chair biting my fingernails thinking on what to do. "This was all my fault, I should have alerted someone when I saw those thieves but I didn't now my mom is being accused of what she didn't do." I thought as i kept on bitting on my nails harder.
"But how come they think it was my mom who stole the necklace?" I curiously asked myself, It doesn't make sense because my mom didn't even go anywhere apart from the Grand Hall and the kitchen.
Andy brought the Bible and grandma asked us to gather around her as she began to pray for our mom to get released. Drew kept saying Amen to the prayers while I couldn't concentrate at all.
Grandma scolded me for not saying Amen while she was praying and I quickly apologized and did as she said.
I went to take my bath after the prayers while grandma tried to call my dad to know what was going on over there. I came to the living room as soon as I was done bathing. Grandma told us what dad told her over the phone, She said that they were still questioning my mom and that they also requested for my presence because they felt I might know something about the situation.
"This was what your mom was trying to avoid." My grandma said with a weary sigh, "I think I should go granny." I pleaded with her but she didn't agree. She said that our dad told us not to go anywhere till the situation is all cleared out.
"But I am the only one who can help Mom out of this situation as it is." I tried to reason with her but she wouldn't budge as she decided to listen to my father.
I decided to give seeing her being so adamant. "Granny mom would come back home right?" Drew asked grandma as we sat down waiting for time to pass, "Of course she will my dear." Granny said and patted him on his head.
Two hours had gone by and I was getting more and more impatient each minute and when I couldn't take it anymore I grabbed grandma's phone on the table to dial dad's phone number.
"Oh what are you doing Kira?" Grandma said when she saw me take her phone, "I am trying to call Dad to know if they have cleared mom's name." I said as the phone started to ring.
"No don't do that, I believe your dad will call when it all gets settled." She said as she stretched out her hands to take the phone away from me.
I retracted my hands backwards to avoid her taking the phone away from me. "But what if he doesn't calls?, What if the situation only got worse grandma?, That's why I have to know so that I can go there and talk to them about who I saw." I told her, "Oh this girl never listens!" Granny said as she palmed her face with both hands.
Dad finally picked up the call, and I asked him if my mom has been proven innocent but he only sighed saying that the evidence really show my mom was the thief.
Hot tears welled up in my eyes as grandma took the phone from my hands to speak with Dad. Granny also broke down into tears when Dad told her the same thing he told me.
I quickly got over myself as I went to calm her down, thankfully for the both us Drew was asleep. "What are we to do now?" My grandma said crying. I didn't say anything as I kept on patting her on her back.
"Did you say you knew what happened yesterday night at the mansion?" Grandma suddenly asked when she finally calmed down. "Y..yes grandma." I said as I swallowed nervously Wondering where she was heading.
"Are you sure Kira?" Grandma asked firmly, "Yes I am." I replied more confident now.
"Let's go to the station then." She said as she tried to stand up. I couldn't believe my ears as I asked again to be sure. "Really granny?" I asked her, "Yes Kira, We have to prove your mom innocent, She didn't steal anything, So if you say you saw those thieves then there is a possibility that your mom will be proven innocent." She said firmly and I nodded.
"Wake up Andy and let's go bring your momma home." Grandma said determinedly not caring if Dad and Mom would not like the idea.
