"What happened Kira?" My dad asked me when I came of the room, Grandma and Drew also moved closer. But when Dad saw my teary eyes he understood what I felt at the moment.
"They didn't believe me when I told them the truth, they said I was telling lies that I was making up a story just to get my mom released." I said crying and sniffing.
"It doesn't matter if they believe you or not, We all know that you are telling the truth Kira and we believe in you." Grandma said giving me a pat on the back.
"But what about mom? She would be sent to jail we have to do something!" I told her, "We are not going to let that happen okay." My dad said trying assure me but I can't possibly think of anything he is planning to do to prove my mom innocent now.
"Stop crying Kira." Andy said shaking my hand trying to cheer me up, I look at him smiling and nodding at the same time using my right hand to brush my tears off.
I admire him for being strong despite the situation, It was surprising not to see him cry because he is a crybaby and seeing that gave me a little confidence.
"Come let's go see your mom." Dad said and took me to the room where mom was being questioned. The officers only let me and my dad in to talk to her, they didn't allow my grandma and Drew because they thought we would be too crowded I don't know why but it seemed funny to me.
"Mom!" I called out to her when we came inside, she stood up in a rush and signalled me to come over to her, Her right hand is being cuffed so she won't be able to move freely.
"Kira my darling are you alright?" She asked when she hugged me, "Yes I am mom." I nodded. "What about you?" I asked and she said she was okay.
"Did they ask you about anything?" she asked me curiously, "Yes they did." I said nodding. "They didn't believe what she said, They said she was lying." Dad said with a sigh.
"I told you not to let them come here didn't i." Mom said with a worried and tired look, She looks so worn out from the stress both from yesterday and today too.
"I had no idea my mom was going to bring them, I thought we already had an agreement on that." Dad explained to mom. "It wasn't grandma's fault Dad, I was the one who persuaded her to let us come here so I would tell the police what I knew." I told Dad, I would feel bad if he blames grandma for bringing us here.
"It's okay now, We will find a way to make your mom come home." He said giving my mom some assurance.
"Yes dear, I think I know what to do." My mom told him, "Really?" Both me and my dad replied simultaneously, "Yes I do, I am going to request to call Mrs Jones, Maybe she would try to help convince them that I didn't steal the necklace." My mom said optimistically.
Wasn't she aware of Mrs Jones coming here? Didn't dad tell her about what happened at the lobby?. I was surprised she didn't know that Mrs Jones came here and she didn't want to help us, Rather she wanted my mom to go to jail.
I glanced at my dad and he did so too, We stared at each other nervously unable to speak about it. Mom noticed the sudden awkwardness and questioned why we were like that.
Dad wanted to change the topic but I didn't want him to do that, So I quickly told her about Mrs Jones and what she had said when I met with her earlier.
My mom was flabbergasted and heartbroken, She never expected Mrs Jones to throw her off like that, What I told her really hurt her that she began to cry.
"Don't cry Sarah I will try my best to get you out of this mess." Dad told her but she shook her head in tears asking my dad how possible it was now that Mrs Jones is not willing to help her.
Then suddenly my mom stopped crying, She quickly wipe off her tears and held my dad's hands shakily.
"I have a number saved on my phone, It is the number of one the chefs that I worked with yesterday, His name is Chris, I want you to call him through my phone and request for him to come here if he has the time to." My mom said hurriedly and Optimistically.
"Are you sure he can help you?" My dad ask worriedly, "Yes! I am sure he can, We worked together most of the time." My mom told me dad with a shaky smile, I could see dark circles under eyes. She was stressed beyond imagination.
"He is the my only hope for now, I just hope they listen to what he have to say." Mom said. "Okay I will go call him now." Dad told my mom and left the room.
"Did they show you a footage kira?" Mom asked immediately dad left the room. I think she saw the footage too. "Um.. yes they did..." I replied hesitantly, "It isn't what you thi-" My mom started to say but I didn't let her continue.
"I know Mom, I know... You would never do such a thing, You always say we shouldn't take what doesn't belong to us so why would you do that? I believe you mom." I told her.
"I am Sooo sorry Kira." My mom said pulling her hair as she did so. "I was looking all around for you, But when I heard some noise in the study room, I had thought maybe you were stuck in the room and you couldn't come outside that why I tried to go in..." Mom explained trying to wipe up the tears that was falling uncontrollably from her eyes.
I just sat and stared at my mom as she went on explaining what happened that night and how she had never had the intent to steal from the Jones. It was my fault, It was all my fault.
"I was the cause of my mom getting arrested, I caused the jewelry to be stolen, I made my mom cry and I made my family worry." Those were the thoughts going on in my mind.
Seeing my mom cry like this really left a bad feeling inside of me, A heartache, I got my mom into trouble just because I didn't listen to her, Now she was going to pay the price for what she didn't do!
I wasn't going to let that happen. I felt like doing something that would free her from this situation, Anything! My mom won't be guilty of someone else's crime. No!!
"Okay girl, That's enough you can come out now." A cop standing at the entrance of the room said with annoyance written all over her face.
"Go Kira, It will be fine, Everything will be fine okay." Mom told me when I hesitated for a while, She was clearly trying to hold on to the last hope which was Chris.
I went back to the lobby to meet both granny and Andy when I got outside, They were sitting at the visitors reception and were talking and laughing about something thankfully.
It was good to see them that way, At least they are not brooding over anything for now, I decided to fake a smile and appear a bit cheerful to not ruin their current mood, Especially Andy's.
"Hi granny." I said with a smile when I approached the both of them, granny smiled at me and to come sit beside her, She knew I was faking my smile but didn't say anything about it, instead she continue to cheer us up by telling us funny stories.
Despite how funny granny stories are always are that you couldn't resist laughing, I find it difficult to do so at the moment.
Those thieves are going to go scot-free and my mom will go to jail for what they did?? I find it difficult to believe.
I have been ignoring the voice in my head telling me that I know who those thieves were because I don't want to get into any more trouble and cause problems for others, But now... I don't think I can avoid it any longer.
It is what I think it is, They are who I think they are, And I don't care anymore if I get into a bigger trouble myself as far as I go all out to prevent my mom from going to jail. I am bringing those thieves to justice, Anyhow, Anyway.
And I know where to go.....
My senses don't lie to me...
