I woke up the next morning with a fever. The flu has taken over me completely, My head throbbed so hard I could literally hear the poundings from it.
I realized I had stood in the rain for too long. And anytime I did that the outcome isn't always good.
Grandma came into our room the moment I was trying to get up, She wanted to wake us up to get ready for the day when she noticed my unusual movements when trying to wake Andy up and walked up to me.
She didn't ask questions but felt my temperature instead. "You have a fever Kira, Come let's get you some medicine my dear." She told me and tried to help me up.
"Today's not the right day to fall sick like this," I thought to myself as grandma walked me to the living room.
"Why didn't you avoid the rain my dear, you know how vulnerable you are to the flu." She scolded me lightly. I just smiled weakly as I sat at the dining.
"Andrew you better come out here now! Come help your sister she is not feeling well!" Granny called out to my brother and I could hear his groans from where I sat.
"She's faking it!" He yelled loudly from our room. Not his fault, I do that a lot.
"But she isn't this time, Come see for yourself and bring the toothpaste Mister." Grandma said back aloud.
He came out not quite long holding the toothpaste in his hands and fuming at the same time.
Andy stood in front of me and examined me with scrunched up nose to see if I was really sick.
"What are you doing?" I asked with a cracked voice and his eyebrows rose when he heard my voice.
"You really are not feeling well!" He exclaimed with his mouth opened. "Don't I not feel well?" I asked irritated by his exclamation.
"Of course you sometimes fall sick, But you lie too much these days so it's normal if I think you are faking being Ill." He said shrugging.
I wanted to knock him on the head for his words but I decided to let it go but I wasn't going to let him have the last say.
"Well that's better than being a scaredy cat who is unable to stay in a room all alone by himself." I told mockingly.
He wanted to talk back but grandma prevented him from doing so which made him pissed.
"Enough bantering both of you, Andy go have your bath." Grandma commanded him and he stomped off in anger.
I took the painkillers grandma gave me after I brushed my teeth and ate breakfast. I went to bed to rest while grandma and Andrew prepared to go to the station.
Dad hadn't been home throughout yesterday, He was busy looking for a way to gather money for the stolen jewelry. I wish I could stop him from stressing himself further and tell him I have found a way to bail mom out. But I can't do that.
But the good thing is that half of the amount of the jewelry would be given to us when my mom is found innocent and I really hope it is true.
"We won't stay long Kira, I need to give your parents their breakfast my dear. Just rest up okay," My grandma told me after kissing my forehead.
"No need for you to rush home grandma, you know I can stay here by myself. Don't leave mom and please don't tell her I am not feeling well." I begged her and she promised she wouldn't.
I locked the door after they left and strolled back towards my bedroom. I slept off immediately I lied on the bed.
It was late in the evening already when I woke up. Thankfully both the headache and fever had subsided and I was feeling better. Though the heat in the room was unbearable.
I felt the need to drink water so I went to the living room to get some. it was then I noticed nobody had come back home since morning.
I had slept for good ten hours. But that wasn't what had alarmed me the most. I had suddenly remembered the events that happened yesterday.
Why wasn't grandma home yet? I thought as I drank some water. Or did something happen at the station? I checked what the time was and I saw it was six thirty in the evening. Worried thoughts ran across my mind as I wondered what could have happened.
I didn't want to worry myself because I trust Mr Steve and his team. But what if they don't succeed this night? What if?
I had decided to go to the station to see my family and was getting ready to when I heard a knock on the door.
I froze and decided to listen carefully again to know whether It was coming from our door.
Then I heard another knock again, this time it was very loud. "Who is it!" I called from the dining but no one answered.
it was very creepy and disturbing and all instinct was telling me not to open the door. I mean who knocks at a door and keeps quiet when he or she's identity is being questioned.
"Who is there?" I called out In anger at the foolish person knocking at the door. if he or she thinks I am going to open the door then he or she is wrong.
Might be a thief or a pedophile rapist, Maybe they figured I was the only one home and thought I might be stupid enough to open the door. If that is the case then, I am not stupid.
I moved closer to the door and nervously stood in front of it to listen if I was going hear anything suspicious. But when I didn't I decided to go back into my room and wait for my grandma and brother to come.
If they come back I would know because they would have been calling my name aloud before they even get to knock at the door. Unlike the creepy person out there.
"The maniac must have left by the time they come," I silently told myself and and turned back to leave for my bedroom.
"Kira darling?" I froze when I heard a familiar voice call my name from the other side of the door.
"It can't be." I thought as I faced the door again, This has got to be a joke, A big one.
"It's me Kira, Your mom." The shaky voice from behind the door said again. My heart pounded relentlessly as I felt a surge of adrenaline through my body.
"M-Mom?" I whispered to myself as I processed what I just heard. "Mom is that you?" I knew it was her voice but I wanted to be sure I wasn't imagining anything so I asked again.
"Yes it is me Kira, Momma is back!" I heard her say from behind the door.
I was instantly overwhelmed with joy as I opened the door in a Rush. And truly it was my mom standing at the entrance of our door together with my dad, grandma and my brother.
"Surprise! Sorry we are so bad at pranking." My mom chuckled, Some teardrops escaping her eyelids as she opened her arms wide for me to hug her.
I bursted into tears the moment I saw my mom standing in front of me. "Mom!!" I screamed in joy as I hugged her very tightly.
Both dad and grandma laughed at our display of emotions. Mom drew Andy into our hug and gave us both a kiss on the forehead.
"Let's go inside now." Dad told us and we all went in. I was beyond excited to finally see my mom back here. The whole issue had been tough on her so she had gotten lean.
We were all beaming with smiles as we sat down at the dining, Happiness evident in all our faces. We didn't talk about how she got released or ask any questions.
I especially didn't want to ask any questions because I knew what had happened.
"They did it, They really did it!" I thought as i squealed inwardly and excitedly.
We all held our hands together to thank God for mom's freedom.
