Fear.
That was the main emotion that Gilheld needed to use his Singularity on his opponent. But, after 12 years, he has awakened his Singularity.
Now, he's able to use his Singularity on things that are related to fear.
Worry, doubt, sadness and etcetera.
"I thank you for that, Aihara. You just got me a way out."
He declared, smiling.
With Gilheld's Singularity, he is able to get into the target's mind and mess with it in any way relating to fear.
Usually, he shows them a least desired vision.
However, it is when he uses his Singularity on feeling such as worry that he can damage the target the most.
When he messes with their mind, he shows them a vision while forcefully stimulating both their frontal lobe and parietal cortex, maximising their emotions and pain. Causing a sharp pain to spread throughout the body.
While showing Aihara a vision of Shoya getting killed by Gilheld, Gilheld maximised her doubt, causing her to experience a trembling pain throughout her whole body. She stopped her assault in midair and dropped to the ground.
"Hurts, doesn't it?"
He teased, touching his bloody wounds.
The woman struggled to get up. It felt as though her bones rattled at high speeds from the inside.
"I think I'll just wait here for Weissmann. Knowing him, he'll come before long. If he doesn't, I'll have to kill one of his own."
Gilheld muttered, sitting on the conference hall stage.
--
"How long will this go on for?"
Ayaka asked, panting.
"Until you're dead."
Yumeko announced, trying to catch her breath. The two had been moving at high speeds for two and a half minutes. Finally, they were out of breath.
(Trying to battle her without the intent to kill is hard, even for me.)
The nurse thought.
Ayaka could've finished her off numerous times, but she didn't want to kill Yumeko because of Shoya.
Even for a doctor like Ayaka, it was easier for her to end lives than to save them.
The blonde-haired woman poised herself. She grabbed the surgical knife in her pocket and cut her palm. Blood flushed out her wound and dripped down to the floor.
Yumeko watched her closely.
She let herself bleed out a little before the blood contracted and a blood sword.
Ayaka's red eyes seem to shine brightly.
The woman slowly sauntered toward the girl, undaunted.
"I think I'll come at you with the intent to kill now."
Even Yumeko could feel the freezing chills travel down her spine.
"Y-you wouldn't! My brother told you not to kill me!"
"Scared?"
"Of course not!"
"Don't worry. I'm a doctor and surgeon. I have precision. I can stop before the killing blow. I thought it'd be easier if I came at you as if I was going to kill you."
Yumeko kissed her teeth.
"Here I come."
Ayaka said, nonchalantly while silently speeding toward Yumeko.
She took swift swings at Yumeko without any superfluous movements. The girl was still dodging normally. Ayaka raised the speed of her attacks.
With each swing, it became gradually harder for Yumeko to evade.
The nurse lurched backwards before lunging forward at full power.
Within an instant, the blood sword was delicately pressed against Yumeko's neck. All movements were halted as Ayaka stopped short of her.
"Do you give up?"
Ayaka asked.
"No!"
She backed away slightly and threw a punch. The woman caught it with her free hand. The girl threw another.
"Gah!"
The blood blade ran through her hand. Yumeko blenched in pain.
"I tried not to hurt you, but you did this to your-"
Stopping midway, Ayaka stared at Yumeko's face. She didn't look, in any way, discouraged, instead, she looked the opposite.
A smirk crawled up Yumeko's face.
"You know, with my Singularity, I don't have to directly touch the place where I want to lock or unlock. For a human being, as long as I'm touching something that's connected to them. I can lock almost anything."
Ayaka raised her eyebrow.
"What are you-"
The blood blade became less stable and became normal blood, spilling onto the floor. Ayaka followed it. She collapsed onto the ground, holding her neck, gasping for air.
Yumeko shook her hand and dealt with her pain by ignoring it.
The girl had used Lock on Ayaka's windpipe via her blood blade.
Ayaka started to squirm less.
"My, you're already dying? Well, isn't that a surprise?"
The girl joked. She sighed.
"I guess I shouldn't have been worried after all. Killing you is easier than catching a rabbit and roasting it."
With a single quick motion, Ayaka's body kicked Yumeko's side. The girl was unable to block the strike.
She staggered back and held her weighed waist.
"The fuc-"
Blood escaped from her mouth as she spoke.
Yumeko covered her mouth to stop the blood from spilling. She started keenly as Ayaka's previously lifeless body swayed.
(How?! I'm sure I locked her windpipe... She should've died by now from the pressure!)
Yumeko screamed to herself.
(She couldn't have possibly cancelled the effects! No way!)
When she thought of this possibility, Yumeko backed away slightly.
Certainly, with the way Ayaka moved, it did seem like Lock wasn't affecting her.
They both engaged in hand-to-hand combat.
Ayaka was moving fine and normally while Yumeko was still shaken by the fact that her ability wasn't working.
Unable to focus properly, she left an opening for herself.
"Ah,"
With that opening, it would decide the battle.
Or so Yumeko thought.
She noticed that Ayaka's attacks were getting slower.
As the nurse's attack came, she was able to counter accordingly, throwing Ayaka onto the floor.
"You... You're a cheeky bitch."
The girl laughed, finally realising.
Ayaka glared at Yumeko.
"I thought that Lock wasn't affecting you, but I was wrong. You're just pretending not to be affected. Sooner or later, you'll run out of the residual oxygen inside you. You'll burn out."
The woman jumped off the floor and shook off Yumeko's grasp. They glowered at each other, before engaging in combat.
