Chapter 5 - Five

Hailey Winston

My friends finally leave, and no matter how much I try to shake off the feeling that they are hiding something from me, it keeps coming back.

But I'm not one to talk, I'm hiding a big secret as well.

I instead decide to scroll through my social media, and trust me when I say I'm not popular. But I follow every popular page, starting from Ariana Grande to the least followed celebrity in the world.

Yeah, that's how much I love gossip.

Also to clarify, I follow the Offlimits boys as well. I mean they are hot, they post legit stuff, I love looking at hot people. If I can't be hot, then let me look at hot.

It's human nature.

So that's how I land on a post by the one and only Elvis Cyan about Crescent Tuesday.

Crescent Tuesday is a night in club Q when only students of Crescent High are supposed to party. All you need is the ID and you're good to go.

Parties have never been my thing, I think they are no big deal because it's a bunch of horny teenagers rubbing each other, drinking, playing weird games and puking their guts out.

Oh let's not forget the ones doing themselves in the guest rooms.

So yeah. I'm not one of those and neither are my friends.

Tuesday

I don't have to take the bus today because my brother is home duh.

He takes his breakfast and drives me to school.

Of course the journey to school isn't as smooth as I just said, I didn't include fighting for the radio, my brother being a staunch fan of Chase Atlantic and I being a gossip lover.

Sue me, I'd rather listen to gossip than listen to the same person sing for an hour.

Yeah no, I'm never doing that.

Anyway I finally get to school but I'm surprised when I find Maya waiting for me on my locker.

Again, Maya is extremely early and it's worrying.

Thinking about what Kai said yesterday, I get suspicious.

Maya is always one to get detention for coming late, she's never one to care about anyone.

Her coming early to school is an alarming experience but I'll get the truth whether directly or indirectly.

"Hey Maya, you're early again!" I say displacing any signs that could rat me out.

She can't know I'm suspicious yet.

"Yeah, ofcourse I have to copy your physics homework!"

"You've never done your physics homework before, why do you suddenly care?"

"Umm hello, it's senior year remember? I might as well try with my grades!"

I give her my homework and she leaves for class to copy before we hand our homework in.

Some minutes later, Kai shows up looking all red as if he's been slapped or he's been blushing the entire time.

Something is happening with my best friends.

As Kai and I keep talking, I notice that today is another day when Tamika is late.

The feeling gets really chocking that I feel I should squeeze the truth out of them.

"So Hails, are you going for Crescent Tuesday?" Kai asks.

I turn sharply to see if he's kidding but nada, he's so serious.

I could have tried the eyes as well but honestly, how do people read eyes?

I mean whenever I look into anybody's eyes, I see a pupil or iris (the black part , whatever it is) and the white part for the non colored eyes.

So how does love look like in people's eyes? Is it pink, purple, blue? I don't get it.

"Why do you ask?" I question Kai.

"Because I'm going, I thought we could you know go together." He says as if it's no big deal.

Then it hits me, they could have gone for Crescent Tuesday the whole month I've not been in school.

The thought hits me hard and I almost feel betrayed until I remember I have a heavier secret than theirs. Besides I'm not sure it's the truth yet.

"Sure if you wanna go, it's okay with me." I say shrugging like it's no big deal.

Ofcourse it's a fucking huge deal. It's like an unspoken rule for our clique.

Going for such parties invite attention that I thought we had discussed about.

"I wasn't asking for permission Hails, I just wanted to know if you're coming with us!" He says as he laughs.

"Us?" I ask confused.

"Yeah, Maya, Tamika and I are going. So I thought you are coming with us too, you know like our usual clique."

"No Kai, I'm not going to that party as usual. Have fun" I brush him off.

While I'm running away from Kai, I hide in the next open class to think. My friends have changed so much in one month and it's disheartening.

In the middle of my thoughts, I don't see Camila and Colonel entering the class.

The moment I see them, I hide under the desk.

As I said before, I can't be in the bad books of the head queen.

"Colonel, are you sure you'll do it?" Camila asks.

The moment she asks the question, their dialogue yesterday pops back into my head.

She said something about Crescent Tuesday. She said someone would be there. She also said Colonel was to do something to him.

Curiosity tickles me again and I make my decision, I'll go to that party just for two reasons.

1) To find Camila's victim

2) To find out what my friends are at.

The rest of the day goes on with me trying not to act suspicious of my friends and we finally part ways as I go with Hayden back home.

I'm so glad I didn't get into the Offlimits boys way, I didn't get caught by Camila, my friends didn't know I'm suspecting them.

This party will be fun.
