Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8: Their Victory

Hans on the other side of the wall, ran as fast as he could but halted when he noticed the female agents stopped from their tracks and stared at the vampires who were heading themselves to the elevator. He glanced at them, however, when he saw the two silver headed men, his emotions got mixed up.

Hans was petrified upon seeing their back as they slowly disappeared from their sights, soon he was able to compose himself.

He brushed the thoughts in his head then asked, "What are you doing? Let's go."

One of the female agents followed Hans silently whereas one of the agents tried to look back again before she followed them.

When they arrived at the hidden exit, Hans slammed the door as he called out his master. His eyes roamed around the meeting hall and he got confused when he found out that everybody seemed to be fine.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"Ahhhhhhh… the meeting was a success!" Head Kelly screamed out her lungs in relief.

"However, there were some exchanges of casualty." Head Akito added with seriousness on his face.

Head Benjamin clenched his fist, while Dir. Melvis closed his eyes, pondering himself about the decision he made a while ago. When Hans noticed everyone seemed uncomfortable with the situation, he realized that there was something going on and that everything didn't go according to plan.

Everyone in the meeting hall was still on their guard while holding their weapons. Emperor Charles, Grand Duke Arthur, and Dir. Melvis didn't bat an eye on the situation. They couldn't care less if this meeting would turn into a war. However, the three of them knew that they needed each other to achieve their goals.

"Put down your weapons."

Dir. Melvis ordered the hunters as he slightly raised his hand as a sign of command. Slowly, the hunters lowered their weapons but were still keeping their guards up. However, Emperor Charles did nothing in return.

Thus, Dir. Melvis asked. "Are you not going to lower their weapons, Your Highness?"

"Do I have a reason to do so?" the Emperor asked. After he said those words, the hunters got agitated and started to raise their weapons again.

"It seems you have forgotten that you are in our territory, Emperor." Dir. Melvis recalled.

"Is that a threat, Director?" Emperor Charles asked him with a challenging tone.

"By the looks of it. I think you're the one who is threatening us, Your Highness." Dir. Melvis said as he pointed the weapons of the Emperor's bodyguards.

"We wouldn't want to destroy the truce our ancestors made now, would we? And besides, we needed each other for our own goals, right?" Dir. Melvis added.

The Emperor then raised his hand as a cue to lower their weapons. The hunters and vampires lowered their weapons before Emperor Charles stated.

"You do realize that this contract did not satisfy us, Dir. Harlow?"

Dir. Melvis snickered and said, "Of course, Your Highness! We wouldn't take you as lightly as that, would we?"

"What are vampires for anyways?" he added.

The Emperor announced, "Indeed we are at fault as well."

Head Benjamin glared at the vampire and thought to himself, 'Good thing you are aware of that, you stupid vampires.'

The Emperor used his mind telepathy to Head Benjamin, 'Mind your words, Head Benjamin. You, yourself knew that you were also at fault here.'

Emperor Charles glanced at him then continued, 'Be thankful that you're still alive because of Dir. Melvis and that human tracker of yours.'

When Head Benjamin heard him said human tracker, he knew exactly who the Emperor was referring to. "Tsk," Head Benjamin avoided his gaze while Emperor Charles smirked then stared back to Dir. Melvis.

"But he did lose his bond and a week later, she came back dead, which made him go crazy. I wonder why?" Emperor Charles accusingly said to Dir. Melvis.

"Are you accusing us, Your Highness?" Dir. Melvis didn't like the way the Emperor delivered his words so he deliberately asked him without hiding his hint of anger and displeasure.

"Since we have no concrete evidence, we would not dare to." The Grand Duke calmly replied.

Grand Duke Arthur signaled at his personal secretary to hand him something. His secretary took the object out of his bag and handed it over to the Grand Duke then bowed to him as he took a step back.

"However, this thing was found in the deceased Female Blood's pocket. Symptoms were also found in her body." He said with disgust showing in his face.

He showed a bottle containing a purple liquid. It was formed in a crystal shape with small veins embracing it till the tip of the bottle. Grand Duke Arthur tossed the bottle to the Director across them and Dir. Melvis caught it without batting an eye on the bottle.

"And I believe that is yours, Hunters." The Grand Duke said.

The Heads were all shocked in disbelief, then Grand Duke Arthur took this opportunity to explain. "Our ancestors had a little argument in the past because of some petty research you, Hunters, made in the past that it almost killed the entire three clans."

"But it also affected the Female Bloods. And here we thought that thing was completely demolished." Grand Duke Arthur added.

He shook his head in dismay then smirked as he asked them with suspicion, "If you had already destroyed and branded that thing as a forbidden bottle, then why is it here? If it wasn't your clans doing, then who?"

Head Akito didn't like how the Grand Duke uttered his words so he questioned the Grand Duke as his temples started to wrinkle from trying to confine his anger.

"So, you're guessing?"

Grand Duke Arthur stared at his brother, the Emperor, then an evil grin suddenly showed in his face.

"Unless, there's a traitor within your clan. If I had to guess." He concluded.

"What?!" the Heads find his conclusion so absurd.

To think that one of them is a possible traitor, why would they even try to harm the clan? They thought that his conclusion was so stupid to the point they find his joke ridiculous.

"Why would we want to harm the clans? Are you even thinking straight?" Head Kelly asked.

"Why wouldn't it be? I mean…It came from your clan to begin with. I can even use my vision now if you want, but wouldn't it be exciting if I didn't?" Grand Duke defended.

Dir. Melvis and Head Akito knew that the Grand Duke didn't take his words lightly. If what he had guessed was right, then this will not just ruin the Female Bloods but along with the three clans as well.

Head Akito looked at the Grand Duke with a stern face and asked, "What do you vampires want?"

"I'm glad we're on the same boat…By the way, we will accept your contract. However, we will add 3 more conditions." The Grand Duke raised his three fingers indicating the three conditions.

Then he continued, "First, if that poison didn't come from your clan then you will have to help us investigate this matter."

"What?! Are you out of your mind?" Head Kelly stared at Grand Duke Arthur with rage.

Then Head Melissa scolded Head Kelly's manner. "Shut it, Head Kelly."

The Grand Duke didn't bat an eye on Head Kelly's reaction then continued. "Second, we will start to collaborate together. And lastly, I'll keep it for future use."

"How will we know that this isn't some kind of fraud?" Dir. Melvis challenged the Grand Duke.

And the Grand Duke challenged back, "I can let you see my vision if you want. However, isn't it exciting to see the future without us knowing?"

"Dir. Harlow, we may be vicious but we do not simply break what we both agreed on. We do not just take advantage of others misfortune. After all, we gain nothing from it." Emperor Charles gave out a mocking tone to his statement.

Dir. Melvis agreed on Grand Duke's conditions without giving a second thought. The Heads found his decision irrational but the Director didn't budge. Then the meeting ended and the vampires left the meeting hall with victory.

Hans was already in his office after his master explained everything to him. He felt dizzy when he tried to process the whole situation. Hans slightly rubbed his temple, but nothing came into his mind, which made him decide to go home and rest.

When he was at the entrance door of the mansion, the night sky greeted him which he couldn't help but admire. As the wind shuffled his hair and leaves danced in ecstasy. He took a step forward as the moonlight slowly indulged the darkness in his eyes.
