They waited to distance themselves from the cottage. Aida asked Adenos, believing that Adrian wouldn't hear them from a distance.
'So, tell me, what happened?'
'They said there was some confusion at our borders, that they thought someone had infiltrated.'
'What does that mean, infiltrated? Aren't they sure?'
'They haven't seen anyone infiltrating, but they say there's a slight disturbance in the air and a faint smell.'
'How long has this been going on?' asked she.
'I think it started with Adrian's arrival, about 6-7 days ago.'
'What makes you think this infiltration is related to him, Adrian?'
'If I just said it's a feeling, would you believe me?' said Adrian.
'Adenos, I know that when it comes to you and your feelings, you're quite convincing. Knowing that you still have untapped magic within you, it strengthens this belief, Aida whispered.
'Hey, hold on there, we're talking about a newly awakened magical power. And we learned that I won't be able to access this power until I find my fated mate, remember?'
'Okay, got it. Where are we going then, to the eastern border?' Aida said angrily.
They quickly transformed into wolf forms and started running towards the eastern border. At the border, they were greeted by guard wolves. The lead guard, (Cain aka) nodded his head respectfully, first acknowledging Aida and then Adenos.
Although Cain was taken aback by the sight of Aida, it was impossible to decipher his emotions from his expression. He turned towards Aida, eagerly awaiting her words. Aida questioned as she took a step forward and asked, "What did you find?"
"Our wolves mind linked and sent warning signals. They mentioned being attacked, but couldn't pinpoint the source of the attack," Cane explained. " We were nearby. When we arrived, we discovered that our guard, Mat, was taken and there was a slight disturbance in the air and a faint scent lingering. We followed the faint scent, but unfortunately, there was nothing significant," he added, lowering his head in disappointment.
"What exactly do you mean by 'nothing significant'?" Adenos interjected.
We discovered burn marks on the ground, Beta Adenos. Matt's blood had been mingled in with the ashes. "Unfortunately, I believe our guard was kidnapped, and whoever took him, destroyed any evidence, and vanished," Cane said, his brow furrowed in uncertainty.
"Aida, can you confirm if your connection with Matt is lost or not, because I feel like I can still sense it, even if it's faint," Adenos asked Aida through their mind link.
Wolves live in packs and they have an instinctual need to obey their Alpha. The Alpha and Beta of the pack have a deep bond with each wolves in their pack. When a pack member is injured or killed, the Alpha feels it as a tremendous pain, while the Beta suffers to a lesser level, but it is still unbearable.
In addition, all members of the pack have the same connection with the Alphas and Betas. When an Alpha dies, this connection is severed, and the pack members are left feeling empty. They have no choice but to either become a rogue or join another pack. Joining another pack means being a subordinate or, at best, having a low rank in a different pack.
'I believe I sense it as well, however faintly, but its spirit drifts more away from me with each passing minute. But I'm not sure how to reach him. Let's go! It is critical that we find our guard before anything happen to him and secure his safe return. We will not let anyone harm him,' Aida stated. With these firm remarks, she began to make her way north, following the faint scent carried by the wind. Adenos and the other guards began to pursue her.
