Ryan went into the ward with an expressionless face. The nurse wasn't in the room, he was left all alone with Haera. She turned her face to the other side as she slowly opened her eyes. Ryan heard her when she tilted her head, turning back and saw her open her eyes. He went to sit on the chair as he held her hand.
"How are you feeling now?" He asked her, holding her hand in his.
"I'm fine…" She replied weakly, removing her hand from his and he apologized.
"You must be hungry…I brought you food." He told her as he brought out some fruits and started peeling them for her.
"Who are you?" She asked him and just then, the nurse came in.
"Hi Haera, you're awake already." The nurse asked Haera.
"Yes…why do you keep calling me Haera? I told you my name is not Haera." She replied with her hands on her head.
"Okay, sir here named you that and it's a nice name…don't you think?" The nurse asked as Haera looked at her.
"Oh…this is the gentleman that came to see you..the one I told you about." The nurse explained, introducing Ryan.
"Oh I see…good morning sir." She greeted him.
"It's evening…how are you feeling now?" He asked her again.
"I'm alright…just hungry." She replied and he handed her a peeled banana which she ate in silence. She was still eating when the nurse went out and came back with a baby in her arms, wrapped in a shawl.
"Haera, this is your child." The nurse said to Haera.
"My child?" She asked the nurse with an emotional voice as she opened her arms to collect the child.
"She has a child?" Ryan asked the nurse, confused as she also looked at him confused too.
"Yes sir…oh! you may have not met with him. They brought him this morning but he was kept in the children's ward to ensure he's fine. He was at the accident scene with her but didn't sustain any injuries." The nurse explained.
"Please, can I see you outside for a minute?" Ryan asked the nurse in a low tone and they both went outside to discuss.
"Is there any problem sir?" She asked him.
"Haera doesn't have a child. So who's that boy to her?" Ryan asked suspiciously.
"How do you mean sir? The person that brought her child left an envelope with pictures of both mother and child…she's his mum." The nurse tried to explain more.
"Can I see it?" He asked her.
"Yes…give me a few seconds I'll be back."
She said as she went and came back again, handing him an envelope. He opened it and went through it carefully as he saw pictures of Haera and the baby boy, including the one he saw at the restaurant. She wore the same dress as that day.
"No way! This can't be…" Ryan muttered to himself as he looked at the pictures in shock.
"Is there any problem sir?" She asked him, getting curious to know what's going on.
"No, don't worry…" He said thinking, he didn't want to make her suspicious for nothing.
They went back in and chatted with Haera. She was in tears as she held her baby. Ryan got a call from home but he didn't pick. He knew his family would remain on his neck if he didn't do something about the contract he missed. He took out his phone and made the transfer of two million dollars into the company's account. He spent his evening together with mother and child.
"What should we call him?" Ryan asked her with a smile on his face.
"Taeyang." She replied.
"Taeyang…the name's nice." Ryan complimented.
"Yes. That's the name I gave him from birth. His father too likes the name…" She replied.
"That's nice. Where's his dad?" He asked her jokingly, knowing she can't remember anything.
"His dad…I don't know but he's at home waiting for us." She replied to him back, not minding what she was saying.
"So you're married?" He asked her jokingly.
"Yes, I am. I'm married." She answered back.
"For how long and where's your wedding ring?" He asked again.
"It must have fallen off. I've been married for two years." She replied with confidence.
"That's interesting…how many children do you have?" He asked, enjoying the conversation as he chuckled in between his words.
"We have one child only and that's Taeyang. His dad is from South Korea and I'm from South Korea too." She replied to him.
"That's sweet. Where are we now? I mean what country?" He asked her again.
"Slovenia." She replied as she played with her child.
"What job do you do?" He asked again.
"I work in a company with my husband." She answered him back.
"That's nice. Tell me more about your husband." He asked her.
"My husband is a doctor, he works in a hospital as a banker." She replied.
"What…? Wow…what did you just say?" He asked her almost laughing.
"What's wrong with what I said?" She asked him irritated that he was laughing at her.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry…I don't mean to..I'm sorry." He apologized as he chuckled, trying to hold back the laughter.
"Is it because I'm replying you that you're making fun of me?" She asked him.
"No, I'm sorry…sorry please…but if I may ask, where do doctors work and where do bankers also work at?" He asked her, trying to make her reason what she just said.
"Hospital." She replied him back.
"Which of them works in the hospital?" He asked her again.
"You're asking too much questions. Doctor works in the bank while bankers works in the hospital." She clarified him as she thought she had.
"No, no, no…" He corrected.
"What's no? I'm wrong?" She asked him.
"Not totally but you mixed them up…it's doctors for hospital and bankers for bank…not otherwise." He corrected her, pointing out her mistakes.
"Okay. I went to school so don't think I didn't…" She said defensively.
"Yes…I know…don't worry I can understand, okay? I'll make sure you recover soon and get back your memory." He said to her as he nodded like a child.
To her, it was her first time being with him while to him, it wasn't. He knew she had no husband and also wasn't married but he had to play along so that she wouldn't feel bad. It was already past 9:00pm before he realized he'd spent much time with her already. He needed to start going back home but she didn't want him to go. One minute she doesn't look Iike his presence and another minute, she doesn't want him to leave.
She tried to beg him to stay but he needed to go back home. He also wanted sleeping over with her but he needed to work on some office documents that night ss he had an important meeting with the board members the following day in the morning. He gave the nurse instructions, leaving the flask of food behind. He asked her to give it to her whenever she was hungry and there was also hot water in the flask incase she needs tea, he brought some beverages.
As for the child, he was to be kept away from her for the night just incase she might sct crazy due to her memory loss. It was a struggle between nurse and Haera to take away the child from her. The nurse waited for her to fall into deep sleep before carefully taking the child from her but each time she tried, Haera would wake up and scream for her child. She accused the nurse of wanting to separate her from her child by stealing the baby from her.
She threw pillows at her and cried all night until the baby was returned back to her. It wasn't safe leaving a seven months old child with a crazy woman alone in a room so the nurse had to sleep there. She became her personal nurse and not only did she get paid by the hospital, Ryan also tipped her. She kept some things that he needed her to keep personal as she was trustworthy. This nurse in particular is a 34 year old widow, who lost her husband and children in a car accident. She lived all alone in her home and took Haera as her younger sister and a friend as she found joy in being with her.
