Ryan switched off his other phone and so when she called, the line wasn't going through. He accepted to spend the night at her place and never regretted it as he had much time, space and no nagging mother to work on his presentation. His mother had been on his neck as she wanted him to be the next director.
She gave more attention to him than his elder siblings which had begun to create a rift back at home. He didn't want that to bring problems between them and so decided to work separately, where no one would disturb him. Haera on the other hand tried her best in helping him out. He finally told her about it and she encouraged him in putting in his best to it.
One could tell that she was a good and caring woman. Ryan had not only admired her beauty but also brains. He helped her during the day with house chores and caring for her son as he played with him each time he was awake while at night, she helped him out with his projects together. They began to grow intimate towards each other. Ryan had begun to fall for her as he couldn't resist her smiles.
He had spent three days at her house and went back home the next day. As expected, he was questioned about his whereabouts and his father had to remind them that he wasn't a kid anymore. He told his mother that he had slept over at a friend's house so he could focus on his presentation. Ryan worked endlessly to get prepared as the day of presentation was drawing nearer.
He happened to make quick sales which also earned him a lot. Finally, the day came. The three siblings presented before the board members, each of them did excellently well. The results were finally announced. Shanya did a great job, she had a very good presentation but low sales, Mike was average at both presentation and sales while Ryan had the best sales but low presentation.
The results of the first stage were announced and the winner went to Mike. He had the highest score on the scoreboard. They were told that their second task had been given already but won't be informed about it. It was an observation and test on them. That was ridiculous as everyone was surprised at it.
Ryan reported to Haera how it went, he knew he didn't get much time to put his presentation together but he tried his best nonetheless, even though it wasn't better. Haera encouraged him to do more and also be careful as his next task was already on. One evening, he went to visit her but had a sad expression on his face. Haera got worried seeing the look on his face and asked if all was well.
"What's wrong Ryan?" She asked him, concerned.
"I need to talk to you. Please sit." He said to her and she did as he said.
"What's wrong? Is it about work again? Talk to me please…" She begged him.
"Promise me that you won't lose control of yourself…" He said to her,
"What's it now? you're scaring me…" She asked, getting impatient.
"You have to promise me otherwise I can't tell you." He told her.
"Okay, I promise. What's it?" She promised him but he knew she'd break it once he told her but he had no choice. It's now or never.
"It's about your husband…" He started, looking all sad and remorseful.
"What about him? Were you able to reach him?" She asked him. Ever since the day he switched off his phone, he never switched it on again for fear of exposing everything as he began to spend more time with her. He also didn't want anyone to know the games he was playing because he needed to uncover so many things about her.
"No…the thing is…he passed away. I'm sorry…" He finally dropped the bombshell to her hearing. She screamed on hearing what had happened to him as she cried and wailed, rolling on the floor and blaming herself for his death. Ryan comforted her in every way he could but things weren't working out as he had planned. It took longer for her to recover over the death of her husband.
Back at the office, everything went on as usual. Ryan's office was a mess when he got there the next morning. It later looked as if there had been some burglars from the previous night. He asked his secretary about it but he too was surprised on finding what had happened. Some documents also happened to be stolen as his drawer was broken down.
"Who has done this?" He asked himself but couldn't find an answer.
He told the secretary to keep a tight security and not let anyone know about what had happened. He would find the culprit himself without creating a fuss. The director and the president, his grandfather, called him to the president's office. They got to know about the incident and asked him why he didn't let them know about it. He told him that he knew exactly how to catch the culprit so they needed not to worry.
He had installed security cameras around his office. One was placed under his desk with a microchip, another was placed on top of the air conditioner and one was placed outside the window. He checked the camera footage in his office, not even his secretary was aware of the hidden installed cameras. He saved it to his flash drive and gave it to the president and director.
A woman had sneaked in at night. She covered her face as she wore a long black gown. It seemed that she knew someone working there because she had the keys to his office as that was how she got in. She went towards his desk and broke it open. It was difficult so she had to use her two hands, letting the veil fall off her face as she faced the camera directly without knowing.
She got the documents and left the office as she came in, returning the keys in the secretary's drawer that was unlocked. Ryan didn't understand why his father and grandfather looked shocked.
"Who's she? Do you two know her?" Ryan asked, reading their faces.
"Son, don't tell anyone about this, okay? Please promise to keep it a secret and I'll make you the next director, right father?" His dad asked, looking for support from his grandfather.
"What's going on? Ryan asked, getting more confused.
"Just do I say, stop asking questions." His father repeated in a more serious voice.
"You told us to play fair and square, this is cheating and I won't partake in it. If I must get that position then I'm going to work for it." Ryan said, getting up to his feet leaving the both of them surprised and shocked.
