Ryan couldn't stop thinking about what had happened. He sensed a foul game was being played on. Who was that woman and why did his father and grandfather act so strangely? He couldn't just understand what was going on and needed an explanation to all these. Things were really getting complicated for him and more difficult.
He couldn't go back home that day after he closed with work, nor could he also go to see Haera. He knew he had a lot to think about and sort out, he was still contemplating on what to do as he sat in his car on he wheels, tapping the steering with his two fingers as he was buried in thoughts. He finally made up his mind to go and see Haera, she must be going through a lot after the news of the death of her husband.
He visited her in the apartment he got for her and knocked on the door but there was no response. He knocked and knocked several times but didn't hear any noise coming from within. He called her line but wasn't going through.
Could she have gone out? To where? She never left the house and even if she did, she didn't go that far so he decided to wait till she returned but ended up waiting for more than thirty minutes. He then saw some people walking into the compound, coming towards her apartment. The compound contained four apartments as it was a rented house.
He guessed they were the neighbors living there when they came to the door and opened it, turning the lock open. He stopped them from going in as he was confused.
"What's happening here? Why are you going into another's home and how did you get the key to this apartment?" Ryan asked them.
"Who are you sir?" An old lady asked him, as though it was her first time seeing him.
"Oh sorry, I forgot to tell you, he's the lady's husband." A young woman told them and he looked more dazzled. Probably she had seen him with her most of the time and came to a conclusion that they were married?
"Sorry there's a mistake here…" Ryan tried to make things clear about not being married to Haera when someone spoke up.
"Sir, something bad happened when you travelled." Another male neighbor said.
"Travelled?" He asked, more confused.
"What happened to my wife?" He asked, not knowing when and how the words escaped through his lips. Why did he just refer to Haera as his wife? Anyways, that wasn't important as he needed to know her whereabouts.
"Where's she? I've been knocking for some time but no one opened the door, is she in? What are you also doing here?" He asked all confused.
"Sir, something bad happened to your wife. While you were away, everyone was sleeping in their homes when her baby started crying so loudly. My husband hates the cry of a child and I was forced to come and talk to you to calm him down but as I knocked, no one replied me so my husband had to come and break down the door and we found her half dead on the floor with some drugs lyingnon the floor in a container.
It seemed that she had poisoned herself for reasons we don't know and he child was also hungry. We then rushed her to the hospital but she had passed out before then, she's doing just fine now but weak as a result of the effect of the drugs she took. She had refused to say anything to anyone, we came back to get some clothes and other evidence as the other neighbors anted reporting the issue to the police that's why all five of us are here sir." A middle aged woman explained in details, leaving Ryan shocked than confused.
Ryan didn't wait for one more word from them as he rushed out of the compound and drove straight away to the hospital. He was very scared and wondered why she had wanted to take her own life. It might have been because of the death of her husband. He wished he didn't start all these games by telling her she had a husband from the first place.
He had so many regrets and felt sorry for everything. He contemplated if he should just tell her the truth that she had no husband to make her stop being what she's becoming but how then did she get a child? Would he tell her another lie again? Where was this all heading to? If anything happened to her, he wouldn't forgive himself as he felt guilty of hurting her.
At the hospital, he rushed to her ward and met her awake but the baby wasn't with her. On sighting him, she began to cry so much, gding his shirt as he sat beside her on the bed.
"My baby…my baby…" She cried pointing towards the door. Ryan was confused and didn't know what exactly was happening.
"What happened to your baby? Where's he?" He asked her as he patted her gently.
"They took him away from me…" She cried.
"Don't worry, they'll bring him back to you when you're well okay? Don't stress yourself please." He tried to calm her down as her wails turned to silent sobbing. He thought it was the nurses that took away her child since she was sick and a bit unstable, mentally.
"Are you sure?" She asked him, looking up to him.
"Yes, I'll go and see him if you stop crying, okay?" He reassured her as she wiped her tears. He helped her with his handkerchief and cleaned her teary face. A nurse walked in to check up on her, greetings were exchanged when she suddenly attacked the nurse, screaming and shouting at her to give her back her child.
"Is she the one that took your cold away?" Ryan asked her, suspecting it was the nurse that took David away.
"No sir, I didn't take her baby away." The nurse explained to him, after understanding the awkward situation.
"Then who did?" Ryan asked, more confused. They almost made him run mad with confusion.
"Social services did." The nurse told replied.
"What? Why? For what reason? Who called them?" Ryan asked, much morw confused.
"I don't know much about that, you should ask the people who brought her here." The nurse replied as she moved towards her to inject her but Haera almost fought it her.
"I'm afraid sir that this lady's condition is critical. She needs special attention and treatment as she acts wild than a normal person…" The nurse stated, after carrying out her observations on Haera's behavior.
"Don't you dare talk about her like that!" Ryan barked at the nurse which frightened her.
"I'm sorry…I mean…that was so rude of you to say such. She's just fine and don't need any special treatment, she just needs rest and that's all. She's going through a lot of stress now…so you may not understand." Ryan tried to explain calmly. The world seemed to be spinning around him as he began to feel dizzy, almost collapsing.
"Are you okay sir?" The nurse asked, holding his hand.
"I'm fine…I'm fine." He said to her, trying to regain his composure.
