Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

I sniffed at the soap smell on my skin and frowned again. The little apartment had been turned into a clinic and I had been made to wash to remove the silver and wolfsbane I was covered in.

Dean on the other hand had been bodily tossed into a bathtub and hosed down. Fortunately, his wounds were not life threatening and he was sitting on the examination table in a borrowed pair of shorts. The doctor sighed then handed me a jar of ointment.

"Just apply another coat before bed and again in the morning." I took the jar and nodded and watched as she wrapped Deans wounded shoulder and arm in plastic wrap. "Just keep an eye on this bit, here, on his neck. If you hadn't washed off the silver when you did it would have popped open the jugular vein…" She pressed the plastic wrap down as she finished the dressing causing Dean to hiss. I looked around as Oscar came back. In his hands he carried our stuffed animals. He smirked and held them up to me.

"Seems like your date night was ruined." He looked to Dean and growled slightly. "Lucky bastard." He muttered. "Anyway, all the stuffs been cleaned up and we took what we found on the bodies." He waved a hand and a woman walked forward holding up a bag filled with burner phones and weaponry.

"The werewolves had nothing, but the hunters…" She waved a hand as she tipped the bag onto a table. "They have some rather nasty weapons that we can't use." I reached out and picked up a butterfly knife.

"Enchanted?" Oscar nodded and he looked at me.

"Yeah, werewolves, vampire… any non-human can't handle them without extreme pain." I nodded and saw Dean staring at me.

"How can you handle it then… I thought your mother was a werewolf…" Oscar scratched his dreadlocks and looked away awkwardly.

"She was. I'm half werewolf but I don't have a wolf." Dean's brow furrowed.

"That's why the silver and wolfsbane didn't affect you… and why these guy's held back until you took out the hunters." I nodded.

"No wolf no problems… Not that they need my help. They're specialised in taking out hunters." Oscar nodded and looked to Dean his eyes narrowing slightly. Dean sighed.

"Hu…" He fell silent and grabbed a t-shirt offered to him then looked to the others. "Is it normal for so many people to be… naked?" I looked around and burst out laughing. I had forgotten that the Watchdogs usually went around in were-form as this allowed many of them to move faster and remain hidden and tonight was no exception.

"The Watchdog boys and girls are a little less socialized." Oscar grinned.

"You pack guys still hold onto that human modesty thing?" He shrugged. "I like all natural." He danced around a little then looked to the door as his eyes darkened. "Seems we have a problem in the vampire sector…" He sighed and took my hand. "Later girly," He kissed the back of my hand then glanced to Dean. "Or sooner if virgin boy there doesn't perform." With a wink he turned and left transforming into a large black wolf as he went. I shook my head and looked to Dean, his face was a deep shade of red and he was looking everywhere except at me.

"Come on, the smell in here is making my stomach lurch." I took a final look through the stuff the hunters had but nothing except a few good knifes and short swords stood out. I slipped them into a bag the doctor gave me and grabbed the stuffed toys then led the way out of the apartment.

We walked in silence the rest of the way to my apartment. I watched as Dean winced a few times and stretched out his arm.

"Are you still ok to walk? We're a block away now." He nodded and his cheeks flushed.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He sighed. "You don't think less of me do you?" I frowned.

"What for?" He looked around as if someone was listening.

"Well, you killed more than me for starter… and v…" he muttered the last bit. My mind wandered a little.

"Because… of your… sexual experience or lack thereof?" He nodded. I rolled my eyes. "Why would that bother me?" He sighed.

"I don't know, you seem practiced and Oscar said…" I cut him off.

"Oscar says a lot of things. He's like most werewolves easy and eager." I smirked. "I'm just a little surprised." He shrugged.

"What that there's virgins in this world?" I scrunched up my nose.

"Well… virgin werewolves. I mean usually when you first turn there's that rush of hormones and sex usually follows… quickly." He nodded.

"I just didn't like the women in the pack… I was thinking about traveling. You know to find my mate." I nodded.

"So you're saving yourself for your mate?" He shook his head.

"I'm not naïve. I know only a lucky few actually find their mate… I just wasn't interested in the women in the pack… Not that there is anything wrong with them, I mean they are beautiful but…" He seemed stumped. "I don't know it just never happened…" I pointed to a door.

"Well, this is my building." He looked and nodded.

"Nice, and the tallest one..." He looked around at the built-up area and nodded at the hill we had just climbed.

"The view is better from the top." I smirked as his eyes were immediately drawn up to the top of the building. We had climbed to the top of the highest hill in the city and my apartment building was at the summit. From the roof you could get a full uninterrupted view of the city.

"Wow…"

"Behind the building the city just drops away." He nodded and I waved him inside. "Come on. You have this stuff to reapply." I waved the jar of ointment at him and we walked inside then took the elevator to my floor.

Dean stopped as I opened the door to my apartment and his eyes flickered. I looked back and shrugged.

"What?" He gulped hard.

"Your sent is strong in here…" I nodded.

"I do live here." He nodded.

"Yes… I know but… it has an odd effect on me…" He smiled. "It's like…" I smirked.

"A campfire in winter?" He nodded.

"Yes…" He walked forward and into my apartment looking around hesitantly like he was exploring a new territory. "Deep earthy forest covered in snow." He frowned "It smells… familiar…" He placed a hand to his chin as he began to think. I shook my head and walked in closing the door and letting the lock snap shut.

"The view." I pointed and walked to the large window next to the little balcony. Dean looked up from where he had been staring in thought and his jaw dropped as he quickly came over.

"Fuck, you weren't kidding." Outside my windows at the back of the apartment the whole city stretched out before us like a twinkling carpet and the deep dark of the forest away in the distance was like an ink dot. He pulled open the balcony door and looked around then pointed.

"The pack house is over that way." I placed the things I was carrying down onto the kitchen table then joined him on the balcony. Off to the north where the forest was the closest I saw a small bundle of lights within that ink blot. Dean grinned. "I'm surprised you can see it from here…" He placed a hand onto my shoulder then froze as he realised what he had done, his heart beginning to race. I looked to his hand then back to the little lights.

"Your call Virgin boy." I shot him a glance over my shoulder and saw him stiffen. "What do you want to do?" He swallowed hard then nervously licked his lips.
