Chapter 13 - Bookworm

"Ooooh frightening, then explain why you were stuffing bodies into a jar? Was it?" Alexander left so he could only question on what he's heard.

"That's Alexander, a regular of mine. He brings me bodies and my kitchen duplicates them, he runs on the corpses of warriors after all."

Naturally I then had to explain the whole duplication bit again, it gets a bit tedious but at least this time I can say it in French.

"If you can, bring up some Japanese books or something. Because A) I can't physically leave and B) I may as well be able to speak to your servants too. Or I do it the hard way through a mute Japanese super powered alcoholic." I give a smile to Kimiko, she shrugs back. Knowing Frenchie, naturally she'll know French, and she doesn't disagree with me.

It took a while but I managed to get myself some books to practice with, me and my clone worked overtime to develop a good enough understanding to not sound broken.

A day goes by, my regulars coming in and out as usual. My morning routine of feeding Alexander was interrupted once again by Subaru.

"You really like appearing when I do this don't you?" I joke to him.

However, instead of laughing he looks genuinely stunned, like I'm 8ft tall and feeding a jar some corpses… hold on.

"You remember me?" This is getting weird now.

"Yeah you were in yesterday weren't you?" I say, cramming a Varrick into an open space.

"The day reset… Everyone forgot, but you." Is he in some kind of time loop or something?

"You in a time loop? Looks like it's only effecting your universe since we aren't affected. I bet that helps somewhat, oh yeah, something you should know. These doors, appear all over your world, so don't fret about having to be a butler every loop."

"Oh thank God" He slumped down into a stool and smacked his head on the desk.

"How many loops you on?" Alexander's just listening in silence.

"3" He mumbles.

"So your mind stays the same, do you keep muscle memory or anything? Because you might be able to get really buff and walk through it all."

"No, I tried exercise. It resets too."

"Well one of the universes linked is all about magic based on knowledge and memory. No muscles needed. Maybe you could have a look at that?" Glintstone is something I have some practice in, maybe I should get better so I can help him out somewhat?

"That does sound promising, I'll give it a shot." I have a clone guide him to the training room and run him through the basics of what glintstone sorcery is.

[Tutelage lv1]

That'll be handy I think. In case he resets, I'll leave a staff by the door each day so that he always has an easy access to it. Just as I do so Rem and Ram appear at the door, confusion written on their faces.

"I'm not saying it all again you're kidding me!" To which they just looked even more confused, "This is a bar, doors appear everywhere end of story." I go back to the bar.

(Roswaal POV)

Fascinating indeed, for the book changed its course of action. It deviated, now requiring me to talk to someone called Oliverick that apparently lives in my castle unannounced. Peculiar, I just hope he doesn't outlive his usefulness.

(Oliverick's POV)

I might go all in on magic now, I'm at a new seat of power with the sword, my hand-to-hand is simple but exceptionally difficult to beat. And I know nearly nothing about magic. If I merge loads of magic together along with incantation and stuff like that, won't I be pretty comfortable?

Maybe instead I should refine all the different areas of magic down so I can specify which one I want to continue past a mastery?

Looking at the vast array of magic scrolls and parchment I've been given, I think glintsone is the obvious number 1 choice. My clone was set to work practicing all the glintstone magic we knew, whereas I was constantly learning and revising the sorceries. Occasionally, we swapped over, it was necessary after I nearly attacked Rem after another reset.

On a positive note, Subaru was getting comfortable with glintstone, despite the resets. I can't imagine how bad it feels to have all progress reset, I'm just happy I could give him this.

Evidently, I have been focusing on the stars to begin. Thankfully, I have 3 sets of stars I can use my clone to analyse. However, the stars of Elden ring are easily the most fascinating. After all, the other worlds don't have giant space creatures that can literally rip the night sky falling in them.

Another good thing about star based sorcery is that nearly everything is linked to it, finger sorcery surprised me by their relationship, but I think I will be fusing that with death sorcery when I get around to it.

Right now though I'll evolve reading, after all what else can I add to it?

"Evolve reading"

[Mental library lv1 -evolved-]

Right now however, Ranni is giving me tutelage on Carian sorcery and Full moon sorcery. I feel the boost of the lv20 glintsone in play as the concepts link between each other and reinforce what I knew. Subaru himself is listening in too, managing to pull himself away from his new sorcerer friends to do so.

[Flashback]

"Subaru, isn't your whole motivation protecting Emilia?" I say, reading through a dissertation on fingers.

"Yeah why do you ask?" He says, looking up from his paper.

"The past few resets, you've simply spent them here. You found a door next to somewhere in the city and basically lived here."

"Well I figured, if I get good enough at magic then I'll be able to do my job properly. Strategy is great, I love it, but you can't deny that magic doesn't open up some avenues. Also I like that people here remember me, there's that."
