Rowan couldn’t help but feel relieved that Scarlett was agreeing to talk.
He’d been worried that Jennifer’s mere presence had ruined his chance to talk things out with his mate. He reflected bitterly that it wouldn’t be the first time that woman’s personality had cost him good staff, good friends, and even partners. She was vicious in her attempts to get with him, but it was only a turnoff for him.
He didn’t know what he would do if she had cost him Scarlett.
Thankfully it seemed that Scarlett’s desire for answers outweighed her anger at him—and he wasn’t dumb enough to think that she wasn’t mad. He left when things were… pretty bad between them, and his note wasn’t exactly an explanation.
He had been frustrated about how little he said in that note, too. But it wasn’t exactly safe for the prince to be signing his name on notes and leaving them for anyone to find in random forests.
