Scarlett startled awake as karma came knocking and accidentally flung herself out of bed and onto the floor. The lack of a carpet made the room look classy, but hardwood sure wasn’t as forgiving.
Now that she’d gotten some decent rest, the world around her was registering a bit more clearly in her mind.
For instance, the loud roar of car engines outside the front of the estate coming through her windows.
She didn’t know how long she’d been asleep, but it had to have been a least few hours since she conked out—enough time for something to happen.
She had missed the cars last night, since the exhaustion had made her pass out. She wasn’t going to miss them this time—not when it could be important.
Scarlett crawled out of bed, slipping her shoes back on and heading toward the door. It was still nighttime; the sun wasn’t even up. But that meant nothing if something had happened.
As she opened the door, though, she swore.
