Scarlett had walked those streets pretty late in the day when she came to the estate, when most people wouldn’t be out. The same couldn’t be said for the morning, though. The streets were full—and everyone was staring at them.
It made Gavin bristle and Velma go rather quiet. Scarlett just forged on, though, walking them back towards the estate. The sooner they could get out of sight, the better.
“So, what is this offer your… mate… is trying to give us?” asked Gavin suspiciously.
“You should probably hear it from him. He has the details.” Scarlett sighed, not wanting to admit that she didn’t know much more than that he was willing to help them—the job details and so on were a mystery to her.
At the same time, she was… insecure about all of this. About her relationship with Rowan.
They weren’t exactly of equal standing, equal ground, or equal footing. She couldn’t compare to him—and now, despite what she said about not wanting to rely on him, she couldn’t exactly afford not to.
