Tony opened his eyes, slowly. He wasn't an idiot, so he knew he wasn't supposed to be alive. His heart wasn't even beating anymore. For a moment there, he saw his life flash before him. Not just flashing,, but he relived every moment of his life. And flashing back really made some certain things clear. One, he didn't really know his parents. Thats why when they died he didn't really miss them, apart from his mother. Secondly, his life was a horrific pile of shit. No friends, barely a family, being bullied all the time...
Reliving his life made him realize that it wasn't the life he wanted. It wasn't the life anyone would have wanted.
He heard the sounds of sobbing. He slowly turned his head to see Doctor Iris sitting down on the bed he was lying on, her back to him.
"Tony I'm sorry!" more tears bursted forth as she cried her heart out.
He could feel the emotions swirling around her. Sadness, regret, guilt.
'is this my ability?' he asked himself. Because he could feel emotions with clear clarity as if he could even smell it. 'what a lame ability ' He slowly raised his hand and put it on Doctor Iris's shoulder. She hadn't noticed he was now awake. For a moment, she stiffened. Tony sensed the emotions around her change. Expectations, and fear. She slowly raised her head to see Tony smiling at her.
"T-Tony?"
"Yup! For some reason I'm not dead, and --"
She immediately hugged him even while he was still lying down. Tony could sense it: love. She actually loved him. Tony had not known anyone that felt this way for him.
While hugging him, with her head on his chest, Doctor Iris had no idea what had come over her. A moment ago, she was heartbroken that Tony was dead. Now that she saw him alive, different emotions that she couldn't comprehend were swirling in her head. The little scientist part within her was screaming at her to run some tests, find out why he's alive now, when a few hours ago he was stone dead. While a larger part just wanted to enjoy the moment. She loved this feeling.
'I'm just happy he's alive' she tried to convince herself. If Tony could read minds, he'd be laughing his ass out, because her emotions told a different story.
' wait a sec!' she thought.
She pit her head over his chest where his heart was supposed to be but....No heart beat!
"Tony how do you feel?" she asked, standing up.
"Kinda great actually" he stood up. He felt really good, like he could do anything. "Have you found out my ability?"
Doctor Iris was a bit hesitant.
"You said you had a hypothesis right?"
She snickered. "That was actually a mistake. A miscalculation."
"Go on...."
"I originally thought your ability was adaptation"
"Adaptation?"
"Yeah. It's an ability that alters the body according to the situation. It was the only way I could explain why you survived that fall"
"So....?"
"You're an undead..."
"Undead?" Tony was shocked, but it didn't show on his face. He knew a little about undead, but they were rarer than rare.
" I'm not sure your category, but you're an undead." she said, adjusting her eye glasses."Examples of undead are : Zombies, Ghouls, Liches, Vampires, etc."
"So ....I'm one of them?"
"Yes. Undead are very rare. And we have only one Vampire in MHF" Now that she thought about it, undead were highly sought after. If she was to make Tony's existence known, they'll tear him apart just to know what makes him tick. In this age, world leaders were now looking for immortality. The only reason their only Vampire wasn't being torn apart was the pact that was made with his father, who was a Vampire elder.
Blake. That was the name of the vampire.
'I have to get Blake, he might know what Tony is.....'
Because so far, Tony had not showed signs of the recorded undead.
Zombies were strong and had unlimited stamina, but they were mindless. Ghouls feed on human flesh and are utterly insatiable. There was no way Tony would've learned how to control himself in barely 30 minutes. Vampires feed on blood. According to Blake, Vampires seek blood immediately they're turned. Liches feed on life force, and they could control their hunger, but Tony didn't have their signature bony look.
"Stay here" she said. Before Tony could say anything else, she was gone.
"Vampires are undead. Could that mean I have abilities similar to them? Being Undead isn't an ability. They are separate entities" When he was younger he had always been a fan of other worldly stuff. Mostly because his mother had many books concerning them lying around. Now that he thought about it, he always wanted to find his real father. The dick head that died a few years before his mother died was his stepfather. After his mother died, he made up his mind to find the last piece of his family, because according tip hide mother, his biological father was very much alive.
A few moments later, Doctor Iris entered the room, which Tony later discovered to be a morgue. Entering after her was a very attractive young boy. There was no mistake. Pale skin, bright red lips.
Vampire!
"Blake, this is who I'm talking about"
The said Vampire just nodded. For some reason, he wasn't willing to come near Tony.
"You have any idea what he is?" Doctor Iris asked.
Blake began sniffing the air.
Tony's face darkened. 'what the fuck is this guy doing?'
"He smells like a Lich" More sniffing. "At the same time, he also smells like a demon."
He looked at Doctor Iris. "You should ask the demon. She might know something."
Doctor Iris thought for a while. The demon and the vampire. Both of them made one thing clear: they were staying here because they both wanted to. After all, the anti ability array didn't affect them. Blake still had his inhuman strength, inhuman speed, and he could still use his influence skill. Natasha, the demon, still was super human. She could still read minds and use her telekinesis. Although nobody came to make deals on her behalf, the higher-ups were satisfied with having a demon on their side. After all, they still believed in the Bible.
"It'll be for the best if none of your people know about him" Doctor Iris warned.
Blake just shrugged. "I ran away from home, remember? I didn't ask that old geezer to make any deals. I guess the Vampires still don't want you humans to lay your hands on our powers" he chuckled. He looked at Tony.
"What do you feed on? "
"Uh.... I don't know..." Tony replied.
"Hmm....You show signs of being a Lich, but not totally" He narrowed his eyes. "You might be something new, or something that went extinct centuries ago"
'something new....I hope I'm something new'
"Blake help me get Natasha"
"Okay."
He was about it turn around towards the door when the alarm went off. Blinking red lights and loud sirens.
"What's going on?" Tony asked. The loud sirens and the flashing red lights were assaulting his newly heightened senses.
"I don't know. We might be under attack" Doctor Iris said. She seemed to be freaking out. "Blake! Make sure everything is okay. If we're under attack, destroy the array so they can fight back."
The Vampire nodded and sped out of the room.
