Iris just sat down at a table where three girls were talking quite loudly. No one paid any attention to her. That's how it had been all her life. She was like a ghost.
For the one month that she had been in MHF, nothing interesting had really happened, until now. There was this black kid, a guy, who was being pulled on a stretcher. The guy was probably new, because she hadn't seen him until now. His powers obviously hadn't been discovered, obviously. In MHF, if one's ability hadn't been discovered they would be put in a separate room, with titanium walls. That was what exactly happened to her. She was locked up for almost a month, going for tests everyday, until her powers had been discovered. Then it was like she graduated. She was then transferred to a dormitory, where there were other girls. She actually knee her ability, because she had been secretly practicing, even before MHF noticed her. so she was actually stronger, far stronger than MHF estimated.
"Hey!" it was a boy, and he was actually referring to her.
"Hi" she replied, suddenly focusing on her food.
This was the first time anyone had paid any attention to her.
"Can I sit?" he asked. For some reason, it didn't sound like a question.
Iris made some room for him to sit. She noticed that the other girls had vacated the table. She then stylishly looked at the boy.
He was young, probably between 20 and 21. His eyes were black and cold like steel. He was white and he had brown hair that was cut short.
"What's your name?" he asked her. His black eyes were surprisingly piercing.
'cool it Iris!'
"I-Iris" she said.
"I'm Drake" the boy said, smiling warmly.
She just nodded.
"You seem lonely" he said like it was the most natural thing.
"I guess?" she replied, toying with her food.
"Mind if I invite some friends?"
It was a free ticket. A free ticket to finally make some friends in this prison.
"Yes!" she raised her head, looking at him. "I I mean no! I don't mind"
"Excuse me" Drake said. Then he stood up and left.
Iris focused on her food again, chewing slowly and quietly. And true to his words, Drake returned a few minutes later with a boy and a girl.
"Hi! I'm Felix" the new guy said. Looking closely at him, he wasn't entirely human. His face was divided into two halves, vertically. The left side was nothing but robotic. He didn't even have ears. The other half was completely human. He wore a long - sleeved hoodie that was covering his body, apart from his face.
"I'm Natasha" the girl said. Her skin was a strange pale white complexion. Her hair was green and eyes were jet black. Unlike Felix who was sort of smiling, she wore no expression at all.
"Guys this is Iris" Drake said. "I saw her sitting here all alone" Drake said, making Iris slightly embarrassed.
"H-hi...."she said. She was feeling a bit awkward.
"Welcome to the gang, Iris!" Felix said. He was ever smiling.
Iris's eyebrow slightly twitched.
"Gang?"
"Oh? Drake didn't tell you?" Felix said, a mischievous smile plastered on his face.
Drake sighed.
"You know about the power disrupting array?"
Iris shook her head.
"It's an Installment that. doesn't allow us to use our abilities. At least most abilities. Mine doesn't seem to be affected, although I'm only at 50% efficiency" Felix explained.
'at least that explains why my ability is heavily restricted '
"We found a place where the disruptive arrays don't work. That's where WE train"
Drake dropped the bomb.
Iris was mildly surprised. Not only had they found a place where abilities could be used, but they also went as far as training with their abilities. They were either brave or crazy.
"What is your ability?" Natasha who had been observing asked.
"Umm....I can manipulate water"
"Oh cool! I'm a cyborg!" Felix said, excitedly.
"Half human, Half robot." Natasha said.
'how did she know I don't know what a cyborg is?' Iris thought. Then a realization hit her. ' don't tell me,.....'
"Yes I can read minds"
Iris instinctively covered her ears, making Felix roar with laughter.
"That's not gonna help!" he laughed even more.
"Besides thats not her only ability" Drake said, with a tinge of envy.
"Yeah!" Felix chimed in. "She's superhuman, and she is also telekinetic. Not fair!" he pouted.
"And the worst part is, 80% of her power isn't affected by the array!" Drake said. His envy was very very obvious.
Iris couldn't help but get jealous too. After all, 100% of her power was affected by the array.
"So, what's your ability?" She asked Drake.
"Steel" he replied.
Before Iris could ask anything, he dropped his fist on the table, with a dull thud. But now it was no longer a regular fist. It seemed to be Coated in steel.
'cool!!' Iris eyes flashed with curiosity. She wanted to touch it so bad.
"You can touch it if you want " Drake said.
Iris immediately wrapped her fingers around his fist. It was now strong and cold. Like steel. She immediately withdrew her hand when she realised that she had been admiring it for too long.
"Uhh...guys? Did you see that guy that was being rushed to the emergency ward?" Felix asked looking at his wrist.
Everyone nodded, including Iris.
" He just died"
"Hm? Someone dying at MHF? this is the first time I'm Hearing about this" Drake said.
Iris narrowed her eyes.
"How do you know?"
"I have access to the most public files of the MHF. If not for the array, nothing will stand in my way!" His smug expression was way too annoying.
"Yeah...only with computers" Drake deflated his smugness.
"Only computers matter kid" Felix pouted.
" So do you have appointments with your Doctor?" Drake asked.
Iris thought for a while. Doctor Star had run some tests a few days ago. And she didn't tell her the date of the next appointment. So it obviously was not anytime soon.
"No"
"So we're all free?" Felix asked.
"Yes" Iris said. She knew exactly wat they were planming.
Natasha just nodded.
" Yup!" Drake said.
Felix then leaned in and said:
"Lets go test some abilities..."
