Contrary to what Valerie expected, Aria City was incredibly crowded with people. The streets were increasingly paved with cobblestones. She even noticed that most roads and sidewalks were paved at different grades.
The rich, only a tiny minority of the population, lived luxuriously in lavish, elegant mansions and country houses, which they furnished with comfortable, upholstered furniture.
Because many people lived in the city, there was trash everywhere, and beggars flooded the road. The air Valerie breathed was incredibly dirty and full of grit as well.
Most houses on the street were annexed to another house on two sides, forming part of a row of similar houses, each frontage to the public road. Contrary to what Valerie expected, the houses looked as neat as she saw them from the road.
It didn't seem to be a problem if they walked along the roads at night because oil lamps were placed as lamp posts at key points along major streets.
