Chapter 2 - disowned...?

After that, Alex's father refused to talk to him for the rest of the event.

When the event was all said and done, Alex was in his room very confused. He more or less expected his dad to be more understanding or affectionate, but instead acted coldly towards him. He pondered that for most of the night until he went to bed.

When he woke up the next morning a house servant was sent to fetch him out of his room and send him to his parents who wanted to see him. He was instructed to get out of bed and dressed within the hour. He was worried as he thought he did something wrong, and as he thought of that, he recalled last afternoon and thought to himself, "Why did Dad lie?"

As he was getting dressed he decided on a comfortable outfit and not the restrictive ones he's used to wearing, it eased his worries a little bit and reminded him of his bed. The clothes themselves look like a drifter aesthetic with brown pants, white shirt, support belts and a sheath holder. The white shirt was a button up and had a brown sleeveless vest over it.

He went down the stairs seeking his parents, his father had a face almost red with anger and said in a voice that sounded angry, sad and disgusted all at the same time "You are no longer our son, you have three hours to take what's yours out of my house and leave and never come back. You are no longer welcome here."

His heart sank when he heard words he never thought he would hear.

After all he was a good kid, a prodigy, even giving everything his absolute best. Even staying up studying for tests until the next day. He was by most accounts an amazing son.

With even thinking, something that was rare for him, he yelled "Dad! You're kidding right? You don't mean that!" He turned to his mother who was almost crying and said "Mom you can't mean this, what did I even do?" A few moments went by in awkward yet tense, silence. Alex felt an emotion he had never felt before, despair.

He calmed down and asked "Why, why are you disowning me Dad?" After his father rubbed his eyes he said "Alex, we are devout followers of the Church of Ludus, and you not having any talents or even affinities makes you an abomination, a mistake, keeping you in the family would ruin our reputation and status in not just Hamellio but every city. We loved you the best we could but we can't any more. We are sorry but this is the best option, for the both of us. Pack your things and go, if I'm being honest I can't stand to look at you right now."

Alex's heart didn't sink this time, it felt more like it shattered into millions of pieces.

Alex, now crying, said "Fine, I'll be out of your hair shortly." He ran up to his room and cried, only for about 15 minutes before he started thinking properly again. Alex was excellent at collecting his thoughts and reevaluating his decisions; after all, he was a nobleman's son; he was practically guaranteed to have some role in politics.

His first thoughts were "I'm no longer Alex, who was born of a noble birth." words popped in his mind like "mistake"  but he quickly suppressed them. The next thing on his mind was "What should I do for gold?" and "Should I leave Hamellio?" After a while he told himself that he will take a walk and travel the realm until he finds what he wants to do and what he needs to do.

When he finished collecting his thoughts he calmed down and decided to check his closet for items and armor he might need. In his closet he finds a set of light studded leather armor. He has only seen a dungeon a few times and this was the armor he took with him on those accusations.

He enjoyed collecting weapons and he had some that his mother gave to him, so he went out to the backyard to go into the shed to see what he could find. In there he finds a sword, a shield and an axe.

The sword was long, sharp and thin. It was made by his mother who was in the top 20 blacksmiths in the realm. The sword was 1 meter and 12cm long. The handle was leather embedded in the metal that made the sword. The guard was simple yet effective. The weapon was perfectly balanced for Alex.

The shield was a circular shield. The handle for the shield had a metal grip wrapped tightly in leather with leather straps to hold it steady. On the other side of the shield was a metal coating In a semi sphere shape as to easily deflect arrows and a spike in the middle as a parrying tool.

The axe was not a weapon from design it was a tool the axe head was sharp but not too sharp as not to dull quickly. On the handle was a cloth grip.

With that, he went back to his room to get his backpack, some gold, and water for the road. When he goes back to his room he looks in his backpack to find 50 gold from the last time he went into a ruin a few months ago. He takes that and he leaves through the back door so as not to see his parents.

He didn't want to get too emotional.
