Chapter 12 - Wanting to go back

Fluffles sat on her tower, looking outside like she did every day. The sun was high in the sky as birds flew by, and down below, people moved about their day. She still felt restless, jumping back down to the floor and pacing back and forth at the bedroom door.

The Roomba silently started up and began its daily routine, as it was the only vacuum clearing Fluffles didn't hiss at because of the noise but still ended up attacking it. During her nap one day, the Roomba started up and mistook her tail for something to clean up.

Fluffles jumped up on the Roomba as it began vacuuming the apartment, as her tail dragged behind her. Riding around the room used to be an enjoyable activity when she wasn't watching the world outside. Now it was a simple distraction until her owner came home.

From the living room to the bedroom, Fluffles rode the Roomba all around, only jumping off when it went under the bed. She jumped up on the bed and waited for the vacuum to come out, stretching and yawning while sitting on the edge. Fluffles looked over to the VR helmet and then to the computer sitting at the edge of the room. She knew there was a connection since her owner always turned it on before putting the helmet on.

At the sight of the Roomba, Fluffles jumps down on top of it, causing it to jerk and stutter before continuing around the house. When it went into the bathroom, Fluffles jumped up to the sink. She looked into the mirror and thought about the avatar she looked at when making the character. Fluffles placed her paw on the mirror and saw her reflection do the same. It wasn't the first time she's seen this mirror as the first involved more hissing and attacking, what she thought, was another cat on her territory.

She jumped back down to the floor and decided to follow the Roomba this time. Its next destination was the kitchen, as Fluffles jumped onto the counter and watched it from there. It circled the kitchen before going to the closet it came from and turning itself off.

With the only other entertainment over, Fluffles went over to the food dispenser for her lunch. She never liked the feeder, even leaving a few scratch marks on it. However, when her owner wasn't home, it was up to this thing to give her food.

In a few minutes, food came out from the machine Flufles tried to paw at the dried food, finding it harder to get a hold of than the wet food. She stuck her head into the bowl and ate up the food in front of her. The rest of the day went by with Fluffles back to her tower.

Fluffles looked to the sky and noticed it was time her owner came back. She walked over to the door and sat there patiently as Fluffles waited until the door finally opened.

"Hey there," Her owner smiled, reaching down to pet Fluffles. "Did you miss me," The words were familiar, but Fluffles still didn't understand them. Though her owner always seemed happy when using that tone. Although, she did see her owner use that same tone when speaking to a baby, which was confusing.

With her owner finally home, Fluffles walked over to the computer wanting to use the VR helmet and started meowing at her. "You must've really liked sleeping in it."

Fluffles followed her owner to the bedroom and watched her turn on the computer. After a few clicking noises, she set the VR helmet on the ground and placed one on her own head. However, what the VR was playing wasn't the game. It was some weird shows her owner enjoyed watching.

The difference between gaming and shows was the VR used in gaming prevented you from moving around, so you didn't hurt yourself. In the VR for shows, you were more of a spectator with the best seats to the show. Allowing you to move around, get food and do whatever else you needed to.

Fluffles rolled out of the VR helmet, hissing at it briefly before looking over to her owner. She walked over and started scratching at her leg, meowing at her owner to get her attention. Her owner couldn't think of anything Fluffles wanted and ignored her. Fluffles continued to meow as the owner picked her up and set her on their lap.

The owner petted Fluffles for a few moments, but Fluffles didn't have any interest. At first, she pawed the hand away, but when her owner kept trying to pet her, she clawed the hand, finally getting her owner's attention.

"Meow," Fluffles jumped off the bed and started to paw at the VR helmet.

"I don't know what you want. The helmet is on, so it should be the same as last night," the owner stated, looking over to Fluffles. The cat meowed again at her owner, having no other way to describe what she wanted.

The owner went over to the computer. Fluffles only started acting weird when she awoke from the helmet when the helmet was in gaming mode. They tried to understand what made the helmet more appealing to her cat in this mode. For now, they assumed the restriction of movement made the cat have a better night's sleep, and cats love their sleep.

"I'll switch it over after my show," She sat back on the bed as Fluffles meowed more.

When her meowing quit receiving attention, Fluffles knew there wasn't much more she could do. Acting destructive only made her owner angry and had the opposite effect of getting what she wanted. She left the room and vented the only way she knew wouldn't get her into trouble. She went to her litterbox and started to dig in it, spraying the litter all over the floor. Fluffles walked back over to the room and jumped onto the bed, unable to do anything now but wait.

An hour later, the show ended, and when the owner took off the helmet, Fluffles looked up at them expectingly. "Alright, you've been patient." The owner stated as she got up and changed the VR helmet to gaming. When the owner finished, they patted the helmet.

Fluffles tilted her head, giving her owner a confused look, not understanding what their owner did. Her owner tried making cute noises with their mouth to call Fluffles over to the helmet, but Fluffles stayed on the bed and stared at her owner.

"Well, it's ready when you want," the owner stated as they walked out of the room, Fluffles giving a meow when they left. "Fluffles!" The owner cried, seeing the mess the cat made.

Fluffles jumped down to the VR helmet, pawing at it again. She stepped in and laid down inside, going back to Infinite Skies.
