Chapter 7 - Slow Start

The two of them had spoken for at least ten minutes, the small talk was extremely useful for Rukku though. In response to the talk, he quickly organised everyone into a few smaller groups. One group of ten went out to hunt down some firewood so that they had something to keep them warm at night. The two groups both went in a different direction with the main aim of foraging for food as well as looking for a clean source of water.

The initial jobs all now being done, Rukku went back into the one building that he had, the monument soon rising out of the ground to meet him. Rukku quickly then touched the moment causing the system to send him a small message.

"Monument activated. Do you wish to destroy the core? Do you wish to move the core? Do you wish to upgrade the core?"

The messages were fairly simple, yet Rukku suddenly had a surprised expression on his face. He did not know until now that he would have to do this to actually upgrade the settlement. In fact, if it was not for Ber's suggestion, he daunted he would have ever found this out for a while.

Quickly though, Rukku selected that he wished to move the monument, or the town core as the system called it.

"Player Notice. Move manually or move with system assist? You only get one free move and can only be within 1000m of this position."

Rukku seeing the little addition was worried that he would not be able to reach where he wanted to. Carrying on though, he selected manual move. The monument then disappeared and in his hands was the token again.

Rukku not wasting any time quickly moved off out of the small valley and just round the corner where he would have the mountains on two sides, then planting the token like had before. The house and core once again appeared.

"Player Notice. Move Completed."

Rukku then headed out himself to just have a look around the general area and get a better grasp of what the region had, at least so he could focus the development on that area first. He slowly began to walk in the direction of the river, that being to him a major point of interest.

As he walked along, he thought back to his small talk with Ber. The man definitely knew a thing or two, that was for sure. The most important thing that stood out though was the moving of the core out of the valley. The reason was simple if they were attacked the core would fall quickly being in such a choke point. Increasingly so right now, they did not have the numbers to fortify anywhere. At least, for now, Rukku would be their sole fighter, though everyone could fight better than the average person, they still did not have many weapons if any at all.

Shaking his head slightly, Rukku had found that was now at the river's edge. He could not help but remark to himself, that he was definitely faster than before. Already seeing a benefit of his bloodline, though Ber had told him. That the bloodline had yet to be awakened, that require some kind of ritual. At least he still retained around half of his power though making him far stronger than ordinary people.

Ignoring all of that information for now though, he could not help but look at the river itself. It was vast, well at least 10m in length. In terms of depth, he could not really tell. But the dark blues waters, clearly made him think that it had a good amount of depth to it. There were also some fish hopping around though, their scales shining in the sunlight.

Smiling at the peaceful scene he soon began to make his way back to the village hall.

The moment he had returned, he already found the group that went in the northern direction having come back as well. This was the group that Ber had travelled with. The old man, seeing Rukku smiled happily. His black eyes for some reason contained a lot of wisdom within them.

Rukku thinking all of this just smiled back, feeling happy at the gesture. It was not much but, it just made him feel welcomed. Something else that he had deeply missed. This for him was the main reason why he did not wish to go home straight away. Being stuck here did not really bother him that much. At least here, he was free and welcomed by his followers.

"My Lord, we did not find much in the north. The mountain range though did have a few good spots for some quarry's to be made and established. In terms of earth metals, I did not see much but who knows. There could be something there. The plains would make a good spot to establish farmland as well."

The report was concise and small, Rukku though was happy with it. They had the land to make up some farmland. Though they were lacking the tools to do this. Rukku thinking about this looked around the hall at the same time. He noticed that there were rooms he had yet to be in. Maybe there were tools or grain to establish the farm within the building somewhere?

Suddenly the door opened and the other two groups both walked in, everyone within the groups was all smiling happily. The reason for this was shortly seen and then felt by everyone else soon enough. Aside from a good amount of firewood they had also brought back a variety of berries and most notably a few dead rabbits.

Seeing this Rukku felt a bit better, they would at least eat well tonight.

A few hours later, everyone was smiling happily after a nice warm meal. It seemed like a few of the women all could cook extremely well and everyone dug into a nice feast. Just before leaving the hall Rukku looked back and said. "You can sleep in here tonight, it will at least be warmer than outside.

A small cheer erupted from the group as Rukku left, hearing their enthusiastic response he could not help but smile. That was a good move for sure.

Soon enough he had reached the upper floor of the building and he quickly found what he assumed to be his room. Walking inside it found it to be rather warm, as someone had made a small fire in here earlier on clearly.

Aside from that the room was rather basic, just the bed and a small desk and chair behind it. Rukku though liked it. It was clean and nice, nothing extravagant but that could always come with time after all.

Settling down on the bed, suddenly he heard someone knock at the door. Looking outside and seeing the night sky he was confused at who it could possibly be.

Upon opening the door he found two ladies standing outside, still Rukku was none the wiser.

"Lord, we would wish to accompany you for the night." The words did not make any sense to Rukku who stood there a little confused.

"Lord? You can use us as you see fit." The other lady soon spoke up in a quiet, yet quaint voice. Those words soon let Rukku work out what there meant.

His face flushed red he tried to say, "No..no. I don...You don.."

The braver of the two ladies seeing his reaction just smiled. "It is ok Lord, you must just want rest. We will leave you be for now." Then she pulled the door closed and walked away.

Rukku however was left with a foreboding feeling in his heart.
