Chapter 6 - A Skilled Knife

[Congratulations, you have reached level 2]

[Level 2: 30/300XP]

Chuck was thrilled. Each rat was level 3 and it seemed like the level up was less demanding than he thought.

If this trend continued, he may be able to reach level 5 by killing all the rats.

This time, Chuck didn't waste time to assign his stat points. He divided them the same as he did last time. 10 to constitution and 5 to both strength and dexterity. 20Hp was added taking him up to 55.

He made sure each of the rats had their necks cut correctly and then passed them to Crumb to let the blood drain out.

The stench of blood quickly summoned more rats.

With his growing strength and dexterity, it was even easier to kill the rats this time as they kept come over in almost a constant stream.

Crumb may be dumb, but he wasn't a total idiot. He noticed that the food wizard was intentionally draining the blood out of each rat. When he saw Chuck kill ones by crushing them, the goblin used a sharp rock to cut their necks and started the draining process while collecting the others.

[Congratulations, you have reached level 3]

[Congratulations, you have reached level 4]

Chuck kept the same stat spread for level 3 but during his fourth level up he decided to put ten points into his wisdom instead of constitution. He could immediately feel a difference. The constitution upgrades had made him feel sturdier and heartier. But this time, aside for the increase in speed and strength, he felt as if his perception had gotten slightly better. It was as if he was more aware of what was around him.

*Roar*

The boar had realized a lot of rats had disappeared. Those were its precious food. It was pissed.

Chuck quickly put the rats into his inventory while Crumb looked him over. "Let's try. If it no work, I have special move to stun boar. We then run fast. Boar never leave cave."

Chuck nodded. "If I kill a few more rats, I might get a special move too."

Crumbs eyes lit up. "Let's do it. I keep him busy, but not long. Forget about small food. Just kill, then we get big food."

Chuck understood what he meant. Draining the blood of the remaining rats wasn't as important as killing the boar.

Crumb directly leaped over the bolder and charged at the boar that was on the other side of the pond.

Chuck jumped towards the remaining 15 rats. With his current stats, even his spatula was able to cleave off level 3 rat heads. With both hands killing at once, he needed less than thirty seconds to kill the remaining creatures.

[Congratulations, you have reached level 5]

[Level 5: 180/1,000XP]

Chuck noticed the experience points required no longer went up by 100 and instead doubled. But he didn't have time for that. Crumb and the boar were fighting head on. The gobbling was bashing its face with his club, but each attack would send him backpedaling at least five feet while the boar would only go back two.

[You have unlocked the Mana stat]

[You have received the ability Bloodletting]

Chuck didn't know if it was a coincidence or because the system was paying attention to his actions, but he wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

[Bloodletting]

[This ability can target a creature's vital points and will cause them to lose blood at an accelerated pace. This ability requires a blade in hand and can be triggered from a far. The distance and damage of this ability are determined by the mana invested.]

As Chuck ran over, Crumb was running towards him. "We need to leave. Boar hide is to fat. It not taking damage."

"Let me try my new ability, if it doesn't work, we run."

Crumb nodded and then turned around and went to smack the boar again. This time, since the boar had built up a good running charge, Crumb was sent summersaulting backwards.

Chuck dove into action and ran towards the boar who had come to a stop from the impact. The chubby boar's short neck was protected by a lot of thick muscle and fat. This allowed it to bash into things with its head and not worry about breaking its neck. It also made it much harder to cut the thick veins that deliver blood to the brain.

But its strong legs were lean and chiseled from carrying its heavy weight. There were decent sized veins near where the legs connect to its body, if he could cut those, the boar would bleed out in a few minutes.

Chuck had 10 mana and decided to use half of it to try out his new ability. Running past the boar, Chuck swung his knife toward the back of its front left leg and activated bloodletting.

A flash of red light burst from the edge of the blade and sliced into its leg.

*Squeal*

A high-pitched shriek/squeal sounded as blood splashed out.

Crumb was running towards the boar, but the boar quick turned to chase after Chuck.

Now they were running circle around the pond. The boar was chasing Chuck, while Crumb was chasing the boar. But all three of their speeds were similar so no one was making any advances.

The boar was to close on Chuck's tail. He wasn't confident in delivering another blow without getting trampled, maybe if he had more room, but not when the boar was only two steps behind him.

"Crumb! Stop running." Chuck yelled.

"No, it might catch you. I will get it."

"No! Just stop."

"Don't worry, Crumb will catch up."

"Crumb! If you stop, I will give you double the food tonight."

Crumb immediately came to a halt. Not because Chuck asked him to, but because he got distracted while remembering the taste of lunch today. He shook himself awake and saw the boar getting further away. But then his mind was blown. The boar and Chuck kept running and were soon running straight at him. He got his club ready and charged towards the boar.

*Whap*

He nailed it in the face while rolling to the side.

Chuck jumped to the other side after turning around and cut the boars other front leg that wasn't injured. He used the last of his mana to activate Bloodletting again.

Crumb landed near the pond and one of his feet sank into the mud. Chuck grabbed him as the two then kept running.

The boar regained its wit and started chasing again.

They did a few laps around the pond when Crumb spoke.

"We need plan." Crumb said.

Chuck shook his head and point at the ground that had a trail of red painted on it.

The small goblin brain in Crumb's head was slowly working. He then looked over his shoulder to see that the boar was now 6 steps behind instead of 3 like it was a minute ago.

They ran a few more laps before the boar suddenly collapse.

Crumb, still full of energy, ran over and started wailing on the beast with his club until a notification sounded.

[You have killed a level 11 Boar]

[Your share of the XP gain is 700XP]

Chuck was thrilled. He didn't level, but he was close.

He then went over and cut its neck before setting it on a bolder to drain out the rest of the blood. He then instructed Crumb to turn it over every minute so blood wouldn't pool in its body.

Chuck had already noticed some good treasure around the pond. He began his harvest. He pulled out a few heads of lettuce, several stalk of celery and a lot of green onions. Currently he had no plans for these, but more was always better.

"I am going to grab the core." Chuck said to Crumb.

Crumb nodded while flipping over the massive boar. Chuck was amazed by the strength that the small goblin could exert.

Upon entering the Dungeon Core room, Chuck was surprised to find the real treasure. There was a large bed in the corner. On the other side of the room was a bunch of bushes filled with grapes. And next to the core was a 15-foot orange tree that was touching the ceiling.

It was a pity that he couldn't store any living things. Chuck had no way to transplant the bushes or tree. So he settled for the second option which was to strip them of their fruit.

It seemed that whoever set up this dungeon was going for a sustainable food source. They had meat, vegetables and fruits already. It was a pity that they must have died in another dungeon or out in the wild. Actually, it wasn't a pity at all. It was quite fortunate for Chuck.

He stored the bed, fruits and then the core. When he came out, the blood was no longer dripping from the boar. He stored that to.

"Alright, let's head to my place. By the time we get back we can start on dinner."

Crumb nodded eagerly and grabbed his club and ran towards the exit.
