Chapter 12 - Necro Goat-Man

Chuck didn't panic. It would be of no use. Since they couldn't go back, they could only go forward.

Out of the coffins came 6 zombie warriors. Some with swords others with maces. Crumb and Chuck ran forward.

Chuck's level may have only been level 6 but his stats reflected a class that was much higher. He ran to the closest zombie that was walking climbing out of its coffin.

*Slash*

Using 5 points of mana he activated Bloodletting. A flash of red light cut through 2/3 of the zombie's neck.

*Whack*

The strength behind his spatula tore the head completely off.

"Damn you!" The goat-man cursed.

He had underestimated these two adventurers.

Chuck ignored the notification that informed him that the zombie was dead. He had no time to think about it because the goat-man's staff was covered in a black light.

The black light flashed and landed at Chuck's feet. Two boney arms reached out from the ground and grabbed his ankles. He could feel a cold chill spread into his legs as he was rooted to the spot. He began to lose 1 health every 2 seconds.

"Go for the caster and ignore the zombies." Chuck yelled.

The caster should be physically weak. If Crumb could get a few hits in, the goat-man probably wouldn't survive. The zombies should be easier to deal with. Plus, Chuck planned on using a bit more mana with Bloodletting. He may be able to take off their heads in a single swipe.

Crumb stopped running towards the zombies. He bent his legs, and they were covered with a green energy. The muscles in his legs swelled beyond belief. Chuck could see large veins pump lots of blood into his legs. Then… Crumb pushed off.

A faint crack was left in the ground as the goblin rocketed forward, bowling over the zombie that was running at him. He shot through the air, moving 10 feet at a time before a leg would catapult him forward again.

"RAHHH!!!" Crumb yelled as he flew at the goat-man with his club raised.

*Bang*

Crumb swung his club like a bat and sent the goat-man launching into the back wall.

The zombies had closed in on Chuck.

He used 8 points of mana and activated Bloodletting.

*Slash* *Slash* *Slash* *Slash*

He did that 4 times. Using his mana till it was almost out.

*Plop* *Plop* *Plop* *Plop*

4 heads fell from shoulders and landed on the ground.

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

Crumb was wailing on the goat-man who was curled up on the ground. The skeleton hands disappeared, and Chuck ran towards the last zombie.

He dodged the mace and stabbed at the zombie's head.

'Damn!' Chuck cursed.

His knife had gotten stuck in the zombie's skull. He had to let go and jump back to avoid another attack. He then ran forward and slapped his spatula against the handle of the knife.

The zombie then froze and fell backwards. Its brain had been punctured.

Crumb had killed the goat-man already but was enjoying his smashing time so he was still whacking the goat-man's dead body.

Chuck put his foot on the zombie's head and then grunted as he finally freed his knife. It would need a good cleaning later.

With everything dead, Chuck checked his notifications. He had advanced 2 levels while Crumb didn't manage to get a single one. But it made sense. Crumb had just advanced, and his levels need a lot more XP.

With 40 points to spend, Chuck put 10 into mana and 5 into the other 6 categories.

The pair sat down and rested for half an hour. Every ten minutes 1 point of health and mana would recover. Or in Crumbs case, it was 1 point of health and energy. This was only the case when they were not in their home dungeon.

They then began to look for spoils. Chuck wasn't interested in the nasty and half destroyed armor the zombies were wearing, but the weapons weren't bad. He stored all of them but one. Crumb found a long sword that was as big as him. He swung it a few times and then attacked a coffin. He showed a proud smile while looking at his new weapon.

Chuck laughed. "Why don't you use the edge, it can cut things pretty well."

Crumb shook his head. "Crumb like to smash." He then swung the flat side of the sword into another coffin, breaking it apart with a single blow.

Chuck let him do what he wanted. It didn't matter to him anyways. He then checked the goat-man. The only thing of value was the staff.

[Poor magic staff]

[Can enhance magic spells when used to cast them]

[Hint: mana crystal can be absorbed to permanently increase mana pool]

The staff wasn't much use to Chuck. He had magical abilities, not spells. He didn't hesitate to take the small crystal from the end of the staff.

[Do you wish to absorb mana crystal?]

He selected yes.

The crystal crumbled and a wisp of mana was taken into his body. It increased his mana pool by 4. It wasn't a lot, but it was the equivalent of 2 free stat points.

There wasn't much of anything in the core room. Chuck quickly stored the core and then he and Crumb went back to the first room to have their lunch.

They rested and ate and then left the dungeon behind.

"Do you know where any other dungeons are in the area?" Chuck asked.

Crumb didn't. So the pair chose to look around and do a bit of investigation in the hills before heading back towards the dungeon.

During the afternoon, they came across two dungeons. The first was a 1 star without an owner and the second was a 14 star dungeon. It only took ten minutes to clear out the one star dungeon and claim its core. Upon finding the second one, the pair immediately turned around and rushed away.

While it was true that Chuck had a 10 star dungeon, he really didn't have a much defense. The points he spent were all on the restaurant and for comfort items. He didn't want to try a 14 star dungeon where its master spent all the points on actual defense. That would not be a good time.

The pair ran away quickly. Under Chuck's lead they didn't run towards his dungeon but in a different direction instead. Just in case the owner of that dungeon was watching them. They then circled around and went back towards the mountain.

Getting near his own dungeon, Chuck saw something in the grass in the distance. In fact, Crumb was the first to notice.

"A pack of wolves." The goblin said.

8 Wolves were walking through the tall grass.

"They don't look strong." Crumb muttered.

"Let's try, if it doesn't work, the dungeon is just up that slope."

The pair was about to start trying to stealthily close in on them when the pack noticed them

*Howl*

A wolf howl and the others moved to surround them.

Crumb stopped trying to hide and drew his new sword.

Chuck had a little over 20 mana points. But he was determined to not use his ability. Mana took too long to recover outside the dungeon.

Each of those 8 mana attacks earlier require 80 minutes to make up for it, and he had dished out 4 of them along with a 5 point attack before that.

Thankfully, the wolves were not very strong. They were only level 4. Crumb could kill one with each strike and Chuck needed one, maybe two attacks depending on where he struck.

By the time they killed 7 the last one had fled.

"At least we got some meat." Chuck said.

Instead of draining the blood now, he decided to make the five minute walk back. The kitchen had many useful tools.
