Chapter 31 - The Plains

"Are those flames?" I uttered with my eyes agog.

I was certainly caught by surprise as I saw Germaine and some of the young Centaurs all around him, I recognized that two were amongst those that performed that day.

The little crowd around him wasn't what surprised me though, it was what he was doing with his fingers.

A flickering flame was at his fingertips, right at the peak of his right hand's forefinger and middle finger.

It was quite bright, voluminous, and wavered at the slightest change. Germaine appeared tensed and seemed focused as he held the flame at his tip while the others watched him.

'Where are the others?' I thought looking around, by others, I meant my friends, I couldn't spot any of them and this show was right in front of their houses.

I chose to walk toward Germaine when suddenly, he violently swipe his right arm releasing the flame into an arc that launched swiftly towards the bush area.

Perhaps Germaine was excited when he launched that spell, he didn't think to decide where he would hit the flame and just sent it right to the space in front of him, Suddenly a short wall came up and intercepted the arc of flame just before it went into the forest.

" Huh What? I guess I didn't think that through" he said cowering his head with his right hand scratching his head. The others that watched him seemed annoyed by this, I guess it's prohibited to send flames into the forest even though it can be put off immediately, that was how much they loved and preserved their greenery.

" Germaine!" I shouted rousing his attention.

" I saw what you did there. Aside from potentially causing a flame outbreak, I think that was cool." I said upon getting to his front, those that were spectators of his little magic trick were starting to leave until it was just us two.

" It was dumb of me to follow my instinct, I did that in hopes of creating a deviant of the flickering flame, good thing one of the magicians monitored me and took an appropriate action," he said with a wryly smile.

" Where are the others?"

" Sasha suggested we looked around and explore after noticing that you had done the same"

" You chose to stay back"

" Yeah, I didn't feel like moving around much, definitely not after what I saw you did. Ever since I saw you use magic, my thirst for it has risen even more so I just had to try"

" I followed what you told me, how you created the gust of wind with your intent."

"I've been feeling a strange energy coursing through me ever since we got here, I'm certain that you feel it too, it must have granted us this ability," Germaine said.

I stood there and didn't respond, he does seem really excited but it just felt weird seeing him this excited.

" I'm heading to my hut," I said to Germaine

" Okay, I'll continue practicing"

" Just be careful," I told him.

[Frederick's POV]

We walked through the forest appreciating the beauty of anything that manages to ensnare our attention.

Those Reindeers appeared occasionally between trees.

' Perhaps we are close to their domain '

I made notice of landmarks so did the others, we wouldn't want to get lost in this place.

Trees bearing alluring fruits were quite prominent in this area.

I stopped at one and we had Jake fetch some from the tall branches above. The slim flexible dude was the man for the job as he went hurriedly and knocked the bright red large fruits off the branches.

" Damn! This probably the sweetest thing I've placed in my mouth" I proclaimed with a scrunched-up face.

There was an impeccable balance between its sweetness and sourness that savored our tongues with great delight. Others as well had pleasing opinions.

We made sure to keep some for later.

We walked further. We came out of the tall thick trees and a wide grassland came into view.

" Just how large was this forest" I mused seeing how far the green flat plains went.

Those Reindeer resembling creatures were abundant here, many grazing on the grass below under the brilliant sun.
