"I have to go right now because I've been taking care of our company since my parents left, and if I haven't told you, we own shares in La Luna Orphanage, the most prestigious charity in the country, are you familiar with it?"
Sheena broke the silence that had remained between them while they ate breakfast; she knew what her friend was pondering seriously now, and it was once again shrouded in misery, so she decided to speak to her.
"Isn't that owned by Orpheus Pallegoix, who used to possess a lot of shares in our university back in college?" Casey remarked this as he stared at Sheena's innocent face, which was then nodding at her as if to confirm that she was correct.
"Yes, he is, it is astonishing how well he can expand his organization to the point that he can help homeless children without well-known parents, therefore it is an honor to meet him afterward." Sheena smiled as she put her plate away and then drank a bottle of water and because of her fullness, he even managed to burp, which she immediately laughed at.
"You don't want to come, do you? You are welcome to accompany me at any time." Sheena's question drew Casey's attention to her. She gave a tiny smile and then shook her head swiftly as if the girl's mood had changed.
"That's precisely what I am going to tell you, I am leaving right now to investigate into my parents' deaths." Sheena's chest was re-infested with worry, thus according Casey, because of the likelihood that something horrible might happen to her friend.
"I am concerned about what may occur to you—"
"I believe I am capable of doing it on my own, and I am even more determined not to allow anything unpleasant to happen to me as a result of my inability to fulfill the responsibilities I set out to complete. Sheena, I am getting on in years. Will I ever be discouraged again because I did nothing to spare them from death?" Casey's response was tough since she didn't move her gaze away from her friend; she didn't know how she would react if somehow the incident with her parents came up again.
Sheena approached her and patted her on the back, indicating that, despite her worries, she understood.
"I comprehend the difficulty you are going through, I am only worried. Don't worry, I will be with you after the meeting I am going to today." Sheena spoke out, but Casey took the girl's hand in hers as an indication that she had something important to say.
"I don't want to jeopardize your life, Sheena, they may even use you against me, therefore I'd best be alone." The girl murmured something, then rose up and stared at the girl, who had no idea what feeling was engulfing her entire body.
"All right, I understand since I may be a stumbling block to your plan, but promise me you'll look after yourself. I don't want to lose a friend, you understand? make a pledge to me." Sheena's voice almost broke into tears as she stated those words; they were like siblings throughout their friendship.
Sheena left their house at midday to meet with the partners of their company, which included the legendary owner of La Luna Orphanage, Orpheus Pallegoix, who was revered by many. Casey, on the other hand, was preparing to go. She intended to pay a visit to the house where her parents died. She had weapons with her that may protect her if she saw an adversary eavesdropping in their vicinity.
When she was sure that she was ready to leave, she immediately left Sheena's house, wearing only a white shirt and pants, this is what she used to wear on any occasion and day she wanted.
She was about to cross the street when a motorist abruptly sounded its horn, threatening to strike her. and the mud on the road was bound to hit her due to the excessive speed at which the motor was going. Mud was stuck to her pants, and something had also gotten into her white blouse, which she coveted so much. She couldn't return to Sheena's place since it was too far away and would be a waste of time just in case.
"Would you like to kill me?!" She chastised and was irritated when she spoke those things to the man who was casually staring at her who was driving that flashy motor, she couldn't dispute that it was pricey at first sight. Soon after, a man riding his motorcycle with a helmet came down the street, wearing shades that's why Casey couldn't see his face It stands tall and has moreno skin, which adds to its appeal.
"Why do you simply stare at me and refuse to apologize since nearly all the mud will end up on my face; do you think you own the street—" These words nearly didn't come out of Casey's lips since she was wiping away the dirt that had also adhered to her skin as she spoke them.
"Name your price," Short, but with a weird trepidation that could be detected in his icy, supposedly serious voice, as well as his unusual emotions. Casey was aware that his expression was solemn yet blank. But, before she could respond, her ear pricked up in response to what the man had said.
"What did you say?" When she immediately realized what the man said, almost all of her blood went to her head, it didn't look like things were going well with her.
"From what I can tell, you are not deaf." He seemed unconcerned and couldn't perceive any emotion in what the young man stated, so he went back on his motorcycle. As a result, he was pursued by the lady, Casey, who was little in stature in comparison to the strange guy, was practically chasing her breath as a result of following the man. The man is returning to the motorbike he had left only to encounter Casey, who clearly didn't appreciate the way he handled his motorcycle and nearly ran him over.
"To speak the truth, no amount of money can stomp on my dignity; if money can meet your integrity, swallow it, consume it for the rest of your life, and take it into your grave. Won't you at least apologize? You don't appear to be a human being." Many people came around while listening to their disagreement, Casey commented nearly loudly because the man has already moved away from her. Casey just didn't want to lose because she didn't want anyone to disregard her or her humanity because she knew her parents had not raised her in this manner.
"Similarly, to speak the truth, I am not a human." His voice was firm and solemn, and it was only then that Casey was able to glance at the guy's face, even though he was wearing a helmet and glasses, his manly attractiveness was still visible, so rather than speak again and condemn the young man, she went speechless.
The girl seemed to lose herself a few seconds later, and it was only when she heard the man blaring his horn again to catch her attention that her thoughts returned.
"You are squandering my time, moronic." He just stated this before accelerating his motorcycle as if he were the only one on the road. When the girl realized the young man was far away, she was poised to clench her fist.
"I wish the motorcycle you're driving will crash, antipathetic!" She screamed with all her strength while stamping on her right foot because she was irritated. She was ready to leave when she spotted an Identification card with the face of a recognizable guy on the ground.
She almost crumpled the object she was holding due to the intensity of her grip on it because she couldn't paint her face as she picked up that small thing from the ground.
"Killian Luther Moreau, twenty-eight years old—" When she read the name on the identification card, she knew it belonged to the man she was speaking with. When she saw what else was written on the young man's identity card, the girl's mouth practically fell.
"He is a Moreau?!" People around her were staring intently at her because of the loudness of her voice, and she had no idea how she would react at the time.
Their family is well-known for being excellent and competent attorneys who consistently win all of the cases they handle, which is why no one wants to fight on their side any longer. This motivated the young woman to pursue a career in law because she aspired to be like the Moreau family, who are revered and idolized by everybody. She also handled and stared at Killian's identity card several times, examining the information on it, yet her reaction was still incredible.
"What now if he comes from a powerful family of prominent lawyers? I should not be impacted since he's a lawyer too, therefore he should know he is wrong." She spoke gently to herself and then tightly closed her eyes, and when she opened them, everyone could see the grief there.
"I passed the bar test a long time ago. Will I, however, continue to be a lawyer? But how will I give my parents justice? My parents are more important than my dream, thus I shouldn't be disturbed. It's all a dream, yet they're my reality." She added, somewhat smiling, that becoming a lawyer was crucial to her, but if her parents were involved, she would be willing to sacrifice everything, including her life.
Flashback...
Verallia Samigo is well-known in their community as a diligent and caring mother who is capable of doing everything for her family, even if her heavy workload has not prevented her from providing a great life for her daughter, Casey. Yael Samigo is the woman's father, a compassionate and caring man who will go to any length to do something for his family. He, like his wife and daughter, has worked a variety of occupations to support his family, including carpentry, construction, janitorial, waitressing, plumbing, water and food delivery in various places. He went through all of this for the sake of his family's future.
Vera was washing clothes in the other corner one afternoon, with stacks of clothing in front of her, but there was no sign of difficulties in her demeanor; she appeared to be unaffected by any life challenges, she got paid one thousand that day, so she relished working even more. She ironed the clothing as soon as he completed washing laundry for more than two hours. When she realized the clothes she was ironing had been charred and damaged, her eyes almost opened.
"Oh, no." She whispered softly as she quickly removed the socket from the iron; she even attempted to repair the burnt cloth, but it was too late; she knew the dress was expensive, so she was even more nervous; she was going to her boss, but she had already seen her before she could say what she wanted to say.
"What the hell happened to my dress? You're an idiot!" Mathilda almost screamed; she is the owner of the house where Vera works; she was only recently arrived, and it was believed that the woman was brutal to her maids, and that if she didn't fire them, they would be wounded and publicly humiliated.
"I didn't mean to do that; I didn't expect your iron to heat up so quickly, I apologize. Please, I won't do it again—"
Vera was unable to finish her sentence when Mathilda abruptly pulled her hair till she exited their street; many people were staring at them, and no one wanted to intervene.
"Because you've already been fired from your job, it won't happen again. What else can I expect from someone who grew up in a squatter?" She shouted it again as she relinquished her grip on Vera's hair, and then she hurled the dress that had shredded, almost hitting Vera in the face.
"You have no idea how much that clothing is worth! That dress is actually more expensive than you!" Mathilda screamed loudly once more, her cheeks reddened from the rage she was feeling and because she was able to approach the woman again in her rage, she was about to hit her when Vera's daughter Casey unexpectedly appeared, shielded his mother, and fearlessly confronted the woman Mathilda.
"We will pay for the things that my mother damaged, just don't lay your hands on her." She remarked this as she calm her mother down, who was quivering from the humiliation Mathilda was inflicting on her. Casey hugged her mother, who was now in tears and shivering from the dread she was experiencing.
Casey had just completed selling street food and was passing by the street where Mathilda resided when she noticed her mother kneeling and listening to Mathilda's nasty words directed at her but she was unable to respond to the woman to acknowledge that what she had said was erroneous.
"And how are you going to pay for it? When in fact, your parents can't afford to send you to college then you will tell me you will pay for it? How ironic!" Mathilda yelled, and because of her loud voice and humiliation, the murmurs of the people surrounding her were virtually amplified; everyone had an opinion and exchanged comments about the situation.
The girl's head practically heated up as she listened to the hurtful words pouring out of Mathilda's mouth, annoyed as she was.
"At the very least, they are working hard and have nearly given up their life to send me to college, whereas your children already have all of your wealth but you have failed to educate them. That, I believe, is the more lamentable scenario." Casey firmly declares a reason for Mathilda to approach her and attempted to slap her, but Vera is able to block Mathilda's hand at that precise moment.
"I don't mind if you say harsh things to me, but if you hurt my child, that's a different matter that I will never allow." Vera remarked this as she fiercely pushed Mathilda's hand, which she had been holding recently, her eyes were serious, and Mathilda nearly physically backed away because of the dread she had suddenly felt. She appeared to believe that Vera had transformed into a different person; if her previous acquaintance with her had been nice and modest, it had now become frightening in her eyes.
"G-Get out of h-here and don't r-return!" Because of her inexplicable nervousness, Mathilda found it difficult to convey exactly what she wanted to say then she hurriedly went to her house's gate after saying that.
People who were intrigued and watched to their conversation left at the same time as Mathilda, as though all they had seen and heard would be shared and spread to others.
"Is everything going well for you? Do you have any uncomfortable feelings? Does her hands lay on you?" Inclined to care, Vera asked of her daughter, concerned as she examined her daughters face and body for any signs of Mathilda's hand. Casey couldn't help but giggle at her antics.
"Mother, I am the one who should asking you that." Vera's expression seemed to alter when she noticed her daughter's smiling face who was now making and seemed to give comfort to her heart and mind, Casey explained.
"I simply wanted to apologize for catching you in a situation where you shouldn't have been." Casey clenched her two hands in response to Vera's simple litany.
"Don't worry, I won't let anyone make fun of us again because if that occurs, I'll put them in jail. Kidding aside, this incident inspired me to study law so that one day I might protect you and my father against arrogant and greedy people." Casey explained the cause behind Vera's huge smile, and now they're walking home, seemingly dismissing the earlier incident.
"When your father knows of this, he will surely be pleased. He had always wanted to be a lawyer, but he couldn't because he had a more important responsibility at the time." Vera said something while smiled slyly, and Casey saw that her mother's smile was tinged with melancholy because she knew her mother very well when she felt anything or had a problem.
She was going to question what her mother's dilemma was and what she meant when she said she said that her father chooses his responsibility instead of his dream, but it didn't get through because Yael, her father, met them in the middle of their walk and seemed concerned.
"I heard about what occurred to you and Mathilda's behavior. Are you in pain? Is everything okay with you?" Vera and Casey hugged Yael at the same time to relieve the uneasiness that had engulfed him as a result of her questions.
"I am serious. What did she do to you?" After Vera and Casey broke up in their embrace with him, Yael said gravely.
"Let the fact that we weren't harmed be the most essential thing, let's not talk about it anymore, we got your daughter home here." Vera stated calmly to her husband, as if she was persuading him not to think about what had occurred to her recently since she didn't want him to worry about her any longer and she was well aware Yael would not allow her to return to the job she despised since she knew her husband, as well as Casey, would work and suffer harder.
"Vera. You know, I don't want someone to insult as well as hurt both of you since that's a separate discussion." Vera grabbed his hand firmly in response to Yael's earnest words, forcing her to look him in the eyes.
"I am aware of that but aren't you the one who said that when someone thought and felt the problems all the time, they are becoming older and uglier? Your age is visible, so you should lessen the frowning of your forehead." Vera exclaimed, pointing to Yael's broadened brow which made the man smile, as well as Casey, who had been smiling beforehand while watching her parents talk intently.
"Okay, as long as you promise me that the next time you two work with, you will be more careful. Because if that happened, I will no longer let you work. I can work alone, even if I can't sleep and eat properly just to assure that the both of you are safe." At the same time, Yael stated he stared directly into the eyes of the two ladies he loved the most in his life.
"We promise, father." Casey murmured as she smiled broadly.
"I have important thing to say, did you know that Casey's college course will be law? Isn't it your dream?" Vera's voice was filled with joy as she spoke the words she wanted to say to her husband, and she was able to hold her daughter, Casey by the waist with immense delight.
"Really? I am the proudest at this moment. As a result, I will work even harder to ensure that you can attend college next school year." Yael's eyes were almost gleaming from what he had heard, and he hugged his daughter firmly to tell her how delighted he was that she had chosen this path.
Vera's eyes welled up with tears as she realized the situation she had uncovered today, she knew how important being a lawyer was to Yael, but he didn't fulfill it because of an crucial responsibility but now she is happy because their daughter will.
"Best of luck, our lawyer"
