"What? What did I do honey," he whispered to her as he sat. [ I can't believe you were dancing with a girl you were with a week ago!] So that is why she shouted a week on the dance floor. Curse you Zan. He thought as he put together the dots. He had wondered why she would just shout in public. Now that he understood, he chuckled. That was a nice save, he thought proudly. It wouldn't look good if the future queen would go off all jealous in public.
"Am I to think that my beautiful wife is jealous?" he asked mischievously. [ Jeal- Jealous? Me? Jealous. Absolutely not your highness. Why would I be?]
"Please excuse me your highness, I need to use the powder room," she said and got up to go. Kara followed closely. Kiel didn't stop her as he knew that she needed some time alone.
She walked in to the powder room and sighed in frustrations. Jealous? Of course she was jealous. Yes she knew that he was now with her, yes she knew that he said that she was perfect but she couldn't help be jealous. It stung alot especially when she unconsciously compared herself to that girl. She had a beautiful fierce look. She had a big chest and hers... hers couldn't hold a candle to that lady's. This was so frustrating but as a future queen she had to bottle it up.
She wiped her tears and dabbed some more make up on herself so that she cannot look like she was crying. Suddenly the door opened and in came her now worst nightmare. The lady with the red gown. She stood at the door and kicked it to close. "Dabbing some more make up to hide our ugly faces are we? she asked mockingly.
Mara just continued ignoring her as she knew not to fight. Yes she was a warrior but she had never fought a demon before. "You can apply all you want but you will never be as beautiful as me you whore. Worse for you is that you will never do a thing to me. I was promised to Kiel but he abruptly broke up with me for you saying it's for the kingdom. Tsk!" She continued looking mad.
"Take my advice poor stupid girl. You are being used. He always comes to me even if he is with you," she added and Mara couldn't take it anymore. She turned and looked at the lady. "Oh, you don't believe me. Feel free to answer me or not, has he bedded you? From the looks of it he hasn't. Ha!" she said feeling very amused.
"Don't you know that demons need sex all the time even at war? Kiel always carries women to war to satisfy his sex drive and he hasn't taken you yet. This should tell you alot. You are hideous, a political tool just to get the human realm under our feet. That is why I'm not angry that we broke up because when he gets your kingdom, he will toss you aside and come back to me. Just pack your bags and leave princess," she concluded and got out with a triumphant smile.
Mara couldn't handle it anymore. It hurt so bad especially now that she wasn't allowed to cry in public. Everything made sense. Even her governess had told her that men take their wives on their wedding night but on her wedding night he left and said he went to the king. Did he go to that lady afterwards. Even after staying with him more, he still didn't take her. Mara broke and her mind went numb. She wanted to go back to her family now. Back home. It felt so bad when someone you love doesn't love you back.
Why would he marry a human anyway. If he told the person he loved and courted that their marriage was just for the kingdom, then it had to be the truth. She had also seen that but with their meetings before and after the wedding, she had hoped that maybe, just maybe, it was something more but now she got hit with a harsh reality.
She got up and finished applying her makeup and got out. Kara who had heard part of what had been said in there felt so sad for her friend and she hugged her. Mara wanted to cry on her best friends shoulder but she couldn't for obvious reasons. They walked back to the ballroom and faked a smile.
As if to rub salt on injury, she found the lady seated on her seat talking with Kiel as they laughed. She felt tears threatening to drop and she knew she had to get out of there fast. "Your highness, please excuse me to the room. I am not feeling well," she said in a really flat tone.
"Oh my God, should I call a healer?" He asked worriedly. [ No] She tele-communicated to him and left the ballroom fast. Kiel noticed something was wrong with her behavior. She seemed distant. When his gaze fell on Kara, he noticed a subtle hatred directed seemingly at him but she schooled her expression really fast.
Mara left the room and went really fast to hers. She needed to breathe and let out her frustrations. She went straight in to the bathroom and turned on the faucet to fill the bath with water and then she got in after removing her clothes. She cried out her hurt, frustrations and anger that she had been keeping in her chest. In here as she was alone, she allowed herself to be vulnerable.
Tears couldn't stop flowing due to how much broken she was. It was almost as if someone was squeezing her heart and it was so painful that she begged him to stop. Him her husband, him the man she loved who thought of her as a political tool. Him the man she had fantasized a life with but now all of that was thrown down the drain as she had finally stepped in to the real world.
She did not know when she slept but she did in the tub. Kiel came in and found his wife in the tub full of water that was now cold and with swollen eyes that were the evidence of her crying herself to sleep. She looked so pitiful and he couldn't help but feel guilty.
Earlier on, he had mind linked with Kara to see her thoughts and memories. He heard bits of what had happened as Kara had not been in the room. He could only imagine what Mara felt after hearing that. What the lady, Kia, had said was true. He couldn't even tell what was more brutal, what Kia had said or the actual, actual truth.
