Chapter 3 - Paintings

New York

In the basement of a beautiful, white villa, a handsome young man with a chilling expression has all his attention focused on the canvas in front of him. He puts down his brush after he makes the final stroke on his painting.

Taking a step back he stares long and hard at the piece of artwork that he has just completed. It's a portrait, a portrait of a stunning young woman who looks no older than nineteen.

She has a tiny button nose, long black hair, pouty red lips, and a pair of mesmerizing green eyes with hints of golden specks around her irises.

The painting looks life-like and breathtaking.

This is not the only portrait of her in the room. There are several others hung on the walls all across.

The entire room is simply a gallery of her image. Different clothes, different hairstyles, different expressions... but they're all her.

He steps away from it, leaving it to dry, and walks over to another painting of her. She has on a baggy sweater and her hair in a loose ponytail. She's standing in front of a tree without a hint of makeup on.

She still looks beautiful. She'd look beautiful no matter what she wore. He traces the outline of her face with his fingers. His movements are extremely gentle and slow as if afraid that the painting will crumble under his touch.

'I wonder, do you still look the same.'

Housekeeper Smith sighs as he stares at the young man deep in thought. He's been like this ever since the young lady left many years ago.

A knock on the door pulls his attention back and he goes outside to attend to the person knocking.

The room is a forbidden zone, other than he and his master, no one else is allowed inside.

At the door, a beautiful woman who looks to be in her mid-twenties rests on the wall with an impatient expression on her face. She has her hair styled in a straight, shoulder-length bob parted down the middle and her facial features are very similar to that of the artist inside.

"What do you guys do in that room anyway, acting all secretive?" Tiana Hendrix murmurs unhappily as she stretches her neck in an unsuccessful attempt to see what the 'iceberg' is up to inside.

Housekeeper Smith skillfully blocks her view with his body and closes the door shut.

"I-It's nothing that you need to bother yourself with Miss Tiana."

"Doing that will only make me more suspicious, you know."

Tiana snorts. "You think I'm stupid? Why would I believe that he locks himself up in a room and does nothing."

The door swings open and the towering 'iceberg' comes out with an angry expression on his face.

"What do you want?"

"Well, it's nice to see you too, big brother." Tiana folds her arms across her chest and pulls a cheeky grin.

"Answer my question!"

"Hmph, So scary! No wonder your girlfriend left you. Everyone thinks that Lucas Hendrix is a perfect man, but only those close to you know that you're an iceberg without emotions."

"Poor girl, I wonder how she survived... too bad I never got to meet her... did the two of you ever go on romantic dates... was she afraid of you..."

Tiana continues to mutter incoherent questions to herself while the temperature around the trio drops several degrees.

Housekeeper Smith breaks out into a cold sweat.

"M-Miss Tiana, d-didn't you come here to report something?"

"Oh yeah right," Tiana smacks her forehead lightly.

"Dad sent me to you. He said that there have been spotted many suspicious activities of the vampires near borders because of which the elders of the pack have called for an urgent meeting and he has to go there so he can't attend the charity event hosted by his friend in Spain. So now he wants you to attend the event in his place the day after tomorrow."

"I refuse," Lucas replies and tries to go back inside but is pulled at the arm by Tiana.
