Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

Jessica's POV

The airport was bustling and hustling with thousands of passengers which took us almost four hours to get our luggage. After hailing a taxi, we got off at a restaurant near the headquarters. By any means, the headquarter was supposed to be hidden from people's view so Harry and Xavier told me to get off in front of the restaurant.

So, from there, I dragged my exhausted heavy ass and followed them suit. I didn't even know where they were taking me as I was sleep-deprived from a twenty-one hours flight. I let out a sigh of relief when the familiar building came in view. There were people in uniform by the door, which I assumed were guards.

I just stood behind Xaiver and Harry as they did all the talking and calling people from the reception. They seemed to be new because they didn't realize that we are a part of the mafia and they didn't let us in.

A few minutes later, the gate flew open and a whole bunch of people ran out towards us. I didn't even have time to see their faces as they lounged on me before I could raise my head to take a look at them.

"JESSICA! YOU'RE BACK!" The all too familiar voice screamed in my ears making me wince and cower away from the embrace of Fiona but I couldn't get out from her grasp no matter how much I've tried.

"Well, hello to you too." I let out a squeak when more people hugged me and that's when I stopped squirming and trying to get out of their hold. I was squished by my cousin, aunt and uncle and as much as I wanted to be hugged by my bed more than them, I enjoyed the warmth of their hugs.

As minutes passed, I mentally thanked Xavier for letting me run all these years and helping me get accustomed to being breathless. After a minute or so, they decided to let me go and I smiled at Kate who had watery eyes.

"Hey Kate. Hey Damon. And Fiona. How have you guys been?" I asked them with a kind smile on my face and that's when a tear drop escaped from Kate's teary eyes. Damon hugged her and wiped the tears with his thumb and Kate jumped on me again and hugged me, knocking the breath out of my lungs. She sobbed as she buried her head in between my neck and I patted her back.

"You've grown so much. You just look like your mom in her twenties." Kate said as she pulled away and looked at me with a sad smile. Upon hearing it, my eyes watered at the mention of my mom and I blinked rapidly in order not to cry.

"Shall we get inside?" I asked them, trying to change the subject.

"Of course! Let's get inside." Kate wiped her tears and linked her arms with me, dragging me inside the building that I will be calling my home now.

I felt nostalgic as it reminded me of the very first day I entered this building, the very day I got to find out the truth about my parents' death and my true identity. I took a deep breath and looked around. Nothing much has changed; it was exactly the same as it was three years ago.

"Had I known you would return, I would have had maids clean up the building, clean your room, perhaps renovate it as well or I could also have ordered them to prepare for a feast. Why didn't you notify us before you left the Black Forest?" Kate asked me and I could feel others following us closely behind.

"I am already thankful that all of you guys came down to welcome me. I am basically an orphan but it warms my heart when I remember that I have you guys and the place where I can call home. Obviously, the Scotts take a huge place in my heart but to me, it's more than enough. Don't worry about it, Kate." I said, trying to reassure her and I could hear her sniffle making me chuckle.

"And we are back because something came up. Let's leave the business for later and enjoy the reunion when we can, shall we?" I asked her with a grin and she smiled widely at me in return.

"Of course! Who loves talking about the shitty boring business?! Let's go crash the night!" Kate yelled like a little teenager as she fist bumped the air and ran inside to the building, leaving me to look back at Fiona and Damon who just shrugged their shoulders, making me let out a light laugh.

Sometimes, I wonder who is the daughter and mom between Fiona and Kate. Kate acts more like a high school teenager when Fiona acts like a married woman. I can't deny that both of them act like children but Kate is more childish than her own daughter.

I waited for Fiona and Damon to walk side by side and we talked about how they've been over the past three years while I was away. After a few minutes into the conversation, Damon excused himself saying that he had matters to take care of while Xavier and Harry followed him. I ignored them and walked to my room with Fiona by my side, gossiping about her new boyfriend of the week.

Luciano and everything were put at the very back of my mind as I enjoyed talking and living the life I once used to live as a commoner. I was talking with Fiona in her room when Kate burst into the room and dragged me out with me only on my robes. She dragged me to the room which once belonged to me and asked me to open it.

I opened it hesitantly but when I did, I was greeted with the same room I slept in for a week or so before I left for training. The room was spotless and I walked inside, admiring how spotless it is after the years of vacancy.

"I summoned all the maids to get this room cleaned ASAP. You can take a rest. I will come to wake you up by when the dinner's ready." Kate said as she followed me. Fiona soon entered as she walked in with my suitcase that I've left in her room.

"You didn't have to do this but thank you so much, Kate. I really appreciate it." I smiled sincerely at her and she waved her hands as if it was nothing.

"Alright, get some rest. We won't bother you further." She said and walked out of my room, dragging her own daughter with force who longed to stay here and chat with me.

"Thank you!" I yelled at the top of my lungs before she shut the door. And as soon as they were out, I plopped down on bed and fell asleep even before I had the chance to enjoy the feeling of lying on bed.
