"What am I going to do with you? I can't leave you here but my class is about to start as well" Milles had a problem with his hand.
The said problem did nothing to hid itself away.
The pup had woken up as soon as Milles had reached his room back and decided to jump at the biscuits in his arm. However, Milles had discovered an unfortunate fact as well - the pup was too young for solid food.
Milles had been lucky that he had managed to snag the milk with him as well. It was the only thing the pup could eat for now.
And it ate a lot for a runt of his size.
"Settle down and let me think in peace" Milles yelled at the pup who finally stilled.
But then it turned to give Milles the most uninterested stare it could and started moving once again. The pup had no intention of listening to Milles, did he? What was he going to do with the pup?
The time for System Study Class was approaching fast and Milles did not think that it was wise to leave the pup in the dorm all alone.
"I guess you are coming with me then" Milles had debated it in his mind a lot of times already but this was the only solution he could find. He could leave the pup outside in his bag and hoped that no one would find him in time.
The pup just barked in excitement.
And then Milles was smuggling a puppy into the SSC class. How crazy was that?
"You are late today. You have an excuse present for me?" Milles had planned to slip silently into the classroom but it failed as soon as he stepped into the class building.
Mrs. Irene in the entrance itself, likely waiting for Milles to show up for some time.
"Sorry. An incident happened in the Magic stimulation class" Milles apologized to his teacher. The small female did not look impressed with him but there was sympathy in her eyes now.
"Because of you being Type Null?" the teacher asked and Milles nodded.
And that seemed like the end of the discussion for them. This was the part where Miss Irene was supposed to call Milles inside and begin the class.
But things did not happen like that at all.
Somewhere between that conversation, the pup in Milles's bag had decided he did not want to stay in there and had started moving around. Milles could feel the pup's moment inside the bag.
He hoped that Miss Irene would choose to ignore that particular problem but he was out of luck.
"What do you have in your bag Milles? It seems to be moving around a lot" Miss Irene had seen the pup move and she looked curious.
And then the pup finally figured out how to get his head out of the bag and it was all over for Milles.
"Is that a wolf pup? Milles put your bag down and explain this to me. Now" the small female looked fierce but Milles could also spot something else in her gaze.
There was concern there.
Concern and fear as well. The teacher looked afraid of the pup for some reason.
"I found him in the forest. His mother entrusted him to me and now he refuses to leave. To be honest, I don't know what to do with him" Milles decided to tell a half-truth.
The pup's mother had entrusted him to Milles but it had not been in a forest. Rather, it had been a science facility.
"His mother! Right. Milles, what I am about to tell you might sound impossible but it is the truth. That pup, it's not ordinary. My system can detect the traces of magic and neural system inside it" Milles found himself not shocked by those words.
He had heard the scientist talking about that pup and the potential it held. It had been clear that something had been wrong with this pup since the start.
This pup and all those other animals are trapped in that facility as well. They all had been off since the start.
"So, what should we do now? We cannot allow this pup to fall into the wrong hands" Milles had a duty to this pup now.
"For now? Come inside so that we can talk. My office had all its surveillance switched off so it will be the best place for us to speak" again, it did not surprise Milles that the other had her office secured.
If Mrs. Irene's offer of protection had been genuine, then it was clear that she had the means to achieve her goal as well.
"System, check for surveillance inside the building and mark the safe parts" Milles trusted Mrs. Irene's words but he could not chance it just yet.
He had to make sure that this office was secure before he allowed himself to relax.
[Pulling up surveillance map of the building]
And the office was a secure place. Mrs. Irene had not been lying to him when she said that her office held no surveillance.
"Are you sure it is wise to turn off surveillance in here? What if you get caught?" Milles could not help but ask.
His room was secure but he had used a different method. No one would be able to tell that his room was secured and without surveillance without a deeper look.
But this office and Mrs. Irene's case was different. One look was all it would take to know that someone had manually turned this place's surveillance off.
"Don't worry about it. They can't touch me since my fiancé would not allow it. He's in Magic Law Keeper's Department and no one wants to deal with them" Milles knew that was the truth.
He had not looked too deeply into her fiancé so Milles reality was out of his element here.
"However, you still cannot keep that pup with you in the dorms. You will be in deep trouble if someone reported it" Milles knew that much but he had no other choice.
"The pup will not survive in the wild. I don't know what to do here" Milles felt tired with all the thinking he had been doing lately.
No matter what he did, he could just not think of the right option out of this mess for himself. And of course, the pup was no help at all in this matter.
"Well, there is a way out of this situation but you will need to listen to me. I can get the pup here as a special aid for the course and assign him to you. It also helps that you are the only regular student in this course so no one will accuse you of favoritism as well" well, that certainly was one way of looking at things.
But there had to be a catch there as well. No one decided to help others out of the goodness of their heart.
He waited for Mrs. Irene to get to her real point before he could decide this. He had already decided to trust her after all.
"The offer is simple, you take the intern position up and I will solve this small problem for you. So, do we have a deal among ourselves?" Milles should have seen that coming.
It had only been one day since Mrs. Irene had proposed her plan but it felt like ages to Milles.
"If this is what I must do" It no longer matted, Milles's decision. He had originally wanted to take Mrs. Irene up on her offer as well but not this soon. He wanted a little more time to brace himself and to set his plans in motion.
But it no longer seemed like a plausible option. Milles had another life dependent on him now. He had to prioritize it before his small-scale plan.
"Good, good. I suppose you do not have any papers for him as well? Then give him here and I will take care of everything" Milles reluctantly handed the wolf pup over.
As soon as the pup left his arms, the calm pup was gone. The struggling began and the pup even tried to bite Mrs. Irene.
However, the female was too much for the poor pup and he soon realized that he was not going to get anywhere even with struggling. It was better to settle down and wait for himself to get released.
"You calm now boy? Good. Now hold still so that I can scan you" The pup was placed on a scanner and Milles watched as Mrs. Irene placed commands to start the scanner.
There was a magical build-up and the pup yelped before it was all over.
"Here, hold him. I have a system to hack and a pup to enter in it" Milles watched from the sidelines as the female took the seat.
It felt weird to be a passive party in such a situation. Even more so when it involved the neural system and its functions.
But then again, he was not Professor Milles, the originator of the neural system right now. He was Misha Raycraft, the adopted magic-less Type Null son of the president, Mr. Raycraft.
