"Let them. Shield any unnecessary information from the prying eyes as well" Milles felt the echo of magic shadowing him.
The pup in his bag had finally gone to sleep. This was the best time to get caught since there will be no suspicious moment from his bag.
Milles did feel bad for the pup, getting packed into such a claustrophobic space as a bag, but it had been the best option to ensure that the pup remained safe and undetected.
"Can you detect the person sent after me?" not that it mattered at this point. He was not even sure why he was interested in this information.
[Special cop Emma, Code #Alpha-57 has been appointed as the retrieval party]
So it was his Magic stimulation teacher? Oddly, it did make sense in his mind. The female had seemed like a responsible person and Milles's current situation had been her fault.
There was a low hum of magic in his surroundings which indicated that someone had been following after him. That person had been there for some time now and Milles had a suspicion about his identity.
But he could not come out and expose himself by asking silly questions. He had to wait for the other side to come out on their own.
In the meantime, Milles decided to start walking in a random direction. He had to make his story about 'getting lost in here' as believable.
The person shadowing Milles did so for well over an hour before they finally decided that he was not purposely misleading them.
"Ok, kid. You can stop there now" Milles had felt the magic close in on him but it still scared him when Emma jumped down from the tree.
"Sorry, mam. Are you here to take me back?" Milles tried for the most innocent voice he had and was surprised when it came out sounding close to genuine.
Maybe it was because he had trained himself to lie to his sister so many times. Anything short of genuine did not work on her after all.
"Yes, I am here to take you back. There was a mistake on our part and you ended up here. I apologize for that. You are not hurt, are you?" the teacher seemed a little worried about Milles.
It warmed and made him suspicious at the same time.
"I am not hurt. I just walked around for the whole duration, trying to find my way out. I'm not sure I am reading this map right" Milles showed the teacher his map.
"I see. Say, can I have your phone for a few minutes?" Milles handed his phone over to her with a small smile on his outer face but he was sighing in relief on the inside.
It had been so lucky for him that he had decided to exchange his modified phone with the original one at the last second.
Mrs. Emma held his phone and typed a few commands that worried Milles. He would need to check it as soon as she gave it back.
"Here, have it back. Next time, call my number if you get lost. I heard that this was not your first time accidentally walking in here" Milles checked his phone as soon as the teacher gave it back.
He had a suspicion that the teacher his not taken his phone merely to put her number in there.
'What command was entered in the system?' Milles asked the neural system as he walked behind Mrs. Emma.
[Device tracking command. The location of the device in the last two hours is being tracked currently]
Milles felt himself breathe easier at that. He had already made plans for particular this scenario. The trackers would only find his signal being bounced all over the place and think of it as a defect because of him being a Type Null.
"Sorry. It was an accident both times. I did try to keep out of trouble though" the probing had started. Milles had almost expected it way before this so he was not surprised at all.
All he had to do was to make his answers vague but also somewhat true.
"Don't worry, you are not in trouble. Now, let's hurry up and return" there was no more questioning after that.
However, Milles was not foolish enough to think that he had been let off so easily. He just had a feeling that he was in for a long talk once again.
[Restricted area exited]
And just as easily, Milles was out of that horrible place with his spoil in his bag.
"You can go back to your room now. You might be called to the principal's office once I report back on this case but do not worry. You will not be in trouble and I will be there as well" Milles tried to smile at those words but all he felt was worry.
No matter how much he tried, it seemed as if Milles somehow ended up in trouble anyway. He had thought that it had just been because Milles had been too active in his previous life.
But maybe it was just had the fate to end up in such situations.
It was nearly lunchtime when Milles made his way back to his dorm room. The pup had somehow slept through all the excitement and Milles felt envious of the pup's carefree sleep.
He decided to get lunch and some extra for the pup in his room while he got himself lunch. He also needed another place to keep the pup. His room was not a long-term solution at all.
While his room did not have a working surveillance system, it was still situated in the student building where the noise can attract anyone's attention. Milles could not risk it.
And then there was the fact that he had a roommate who would be arriving in a month. Milles had no idea how he would be able to hide the pup then.
Not to mention, the pup was going to grow up into a huge wolf if he followed his mother's gene code.
Milles could already feel the incoming headache.
"Hey kid, the principal is calling for you. What did you do this time?" and of course, the universe chose this moment to cause Milles additional problems as well.
Kathy Rowdwerg, the one person Milles did not want to have anything to do with, decided to make herself known.
Milles ignored her but the female did not seem to take a hint.
Either that or she had an ulterior motive in following Milles around this time. She always seemed as if she had something else on her mind. Even the first time they met, Milles had gotten the feeling that the female had something against him personally.
And since Kathy was not going to go away right now, Milles just decided to get lunch later. He might as well deal with the principal before he relaxed with his lunch.
Kathy just followed after him the whole time.
"Are you going to follow me to the office? I don't need an escort with me" Milles stopped himself from snapping at the female. There was no need to get angry at her when she had done nothing wrong.
Yet.
"Nah, not inside. I just wanted to make sure that you get to the office safely. My work here is done now" the female was suspicious but she indeed.
Milles decided to shove her out of his mind for now and opened the door to the office.
The principal was there with his disturbingly innocent smile on his face as usual. Mrs. Emma was there as well. The young teacher looked exhausted but satisfied once Milles entered the room.
"Ah, welcome to my office once again Mr. Raycraft. You are certainly making a habit of it. Let me guess, it is not your fault once again?" the principal asked in a jesting tone.
"I just told you what happened and you were there as well. Don't put the student on the spot like that" Milles was thankful for Mrs. Emma.
The female's words had been sharp and allowed for no non-sense to happen. It helped Milles out a lot.
"Don't be so sharp with me Emma. I was just trying to lighten the mood. I know it is not Mr. Raycraft's fault this time as well. However, I would need a written account of what happened from both sides. It is just a formality" the principal finally sounded serious.
Milles knew why the other had asked for that account from both of them - to double-check their world.
It was likely that the data from Milles's location had not yielded satisfying results so they decided to check in with a written confirmation from him.
Unluckily, Milles had seen through them and had a plan to get out of this situation as well. He had studied the location path neural system had given for his location and he had a report ready to write out.
By the time Milles was done and out of the door, this situation looked as good as resolved.
