Chapter 14 - Sniffle

Zero thought about what the window meant by there planet being named a number in the thousands, however he figured it wouldn't matter at the moment. "Now, I want you to shimmy through the door slowly. And no funny business, we will shoot you if you go for one of our weapons."

Zero was glad he had dropped his bloodied hoodie and backpack full of items next to the fourth floor door. He slowly pushed his way through the small opening in the door until he fell on his hands and knees inside the floor. Zero heard multiple guns cock, causing him to stay completely still. There was a moment before someone let out a breath before speaking. "Lower your guns boys, its a kid."

Zero heard a couple clicks before he slowly moved his head so that he could see the current situation. The first thing he noticed was four people in police uniforms standing around him. Zero adverted his eyes as an older looking man walked forward out of the group of officers and started to talk. "No need to be afraid kid, were officers, were not going to hurt you. Were just going to quickly check if you have any weapons on you before we take the cuffs off. Is that alright with you?"

Zero nodded before the man started patting him down, checking his waist before checking his ankles. "Clear." The man helped Zero to his feet before sliding a key into the cuffs and taking them off Zero's wrists. "Thank you." Zero looked around at the other three officers with evident fear on his face. The old man saw this and quickly started leading Zero through a metal gate that was cutting the hallway in two.

"This metal gate is strong enough to hold back multiple men, let alone anything else." Zero heard how the man said "Anything else", and he knew they had seen the Goblins, or something like them around. Just as they made it to a large area, there was multiple shots fired from outside. Zero looked at the man with open fear. "Don't worry my boy. Although we don't know who is firing those guns, they are currently taking on something that even we wouldn't challenge. From there, we will deal with the people openly firing firearms in a city."

Zero made a confused expression while slowly nodding. Zero watched as they passed another two armed officers before they arrived in a large open area. He looked on at the 3 dozen or so people currently crying and sitting in the area. Some of them were wrapped in blankets, while others were laying down with bandaged wounds. "What happened to us..." The man looked at Zero, then the people before answering. "Something attacked us. I don't know what, but they had numbers and no fear. We sent officers out but... they stopped coming back.

"Once the 8th officer didn't return, we stopped sending them and instead decided to protect those that we had already rescued or came to us, like you." Zero slowly nodded as he staired blankly at the group of people. 'So there are at least 8 guns on the other floors. The only problem is, I can't help feeling like they would have already used the bullets defending themselves.'

Zero threw the idea of searching the 50 odd floors for 8 guns with a chance of having zero ammo in them. "Say, did you witness anything weird on your way here?" Zero noticed the way he said it, and the fact that a figure in the group of bodies momentarily stilled, before going back to his rocking. 'Window, Is there anyone in the immediate vicinity that is a Host?'

-Notice-

Unable to reveal the information. please ask another question.

Zero already felt it in his gut that there was a Host in this area, and he was wondering if all of these people were Hosts. 'The girl said a human is a guaranteed soul, meaning there is more then 36 souls here. The only problem is, I don't know which is a Host, and which is a simple human.' Zero knew he didn't have enough souls to activate his ultimate, so he decided on the extremer of the options.

"Weird? You mean like a Green little freaks ripping and tearing and biting my father! No. He threw himself onto it while telling me to run here. I-I couldn't save him..." Zero started to curl in on himself, so the older man started calming him down. "Don't worry. We will go look for him once we have mustered our forces. There is a chance he he is still alive!" Zero looked up at the mans eyes, as if searching for the truth. "You promise..." The man nodded, before having Zero sit down next to to the to the to others.

The gunshots outside continued to go off, coupled with the roaring of the Ogre. Zero didn't know how long it had been, but he had counted half an hour already. As Zero continued to keep on high alert, he noticed something strange about the group he was in. First, Zero hadn't heard the girl stop crying for the entire time he was there. Confused by this, he focused in on her crying. 'She sniffles every 210 seconds, without fail...' Zero had simply curled up into a ball as soon as he sat down, putting his back against a wall.

The second thing he noticed, was the way one of the injured guys were whimpering. Once more, the man would let out a half second moan every 154 seconds, on the dot. 'Its almost like they are set on a timer...' Zero heard a rather large gun shot go off outside, and he used that to act startled and look down the hallway. Zero quickly took note of the two guards, which seemed to be in the same exact position as before. The one on the left of the hallway was sitting on a chair simply reading a book before taking a glance towards the entrance, and the one on the right would take a long look at the group of people before turning and watching the other way.

Zero turned back and looked over the group in a panicked way. "Guys, do you think my dad is okay..." Zero looked around the crowd of people, finding that only three people acknowledged him. Instantly, Zero saw that one of them was the person that had flinched when the older man had mentioned weird things. When Zero looked at the other two, they were already back to looking at the floor or wall in a dazed way.

The man that flinched was the one to answer Zero. "Depends on if he was strong, and how many of the "Freaks" you saw." The man said Freaks in a way that suggested he didn't believe what he had said.
