Chereads / OtherWorlders: The Abyss Stares Back / Chapter 6 - In The Dreams of The Demon

Chapter 6 - In The Dreams of The Demon

"Damn it…" said Azrael as he stares into Ryvern's eyes. "I didn't expect you to be this fast…"

The Demon and the Fallen Archangel Azrael were surrounded by piles of bodies as the Seven Sins taking down a few angels, killing a few devils and fallen angels, including the heretics.

The demons had long gone from the battlefield, retreating as they left the devils to their own, leaving them vulnerable to the other two factions and Ryvern's group of Sins.

Ryvern removes his arm from Azrael's chest as the dying Fallen slumped onto the ground. Not a drop of tears fell from his eyes, not even a frown of regret, just…anger.

Ryvern then looked over to Lucifer; who was screaming at the injured God.

"--- This is how you repaid me?! After all I've done for you? For everyone?!"

God; who had His back to a boulder of rock, clenches his injured abdomen as he looked at His eldest son in regret.

"I know I'm not the most condescending person in our family, and I know I'm not the brightest one, but look at YOU!" Lucifer emphasised the 'you' as he pointed his finger to God.

"Not only you failed ME, you failed all of us! YOUR OWN CHILDREN! If you were the tiniest bit understanding towards your children, then maybe I won't be this angry, then maybe Azrael and Azazel won't leave you, and may-." Lucifer paused as he can feel his breaths are getting heavier.

Now with tears on his red eyes, Lucifer says to God, "And maybe Lokael would still alive…"

Hearing the name of His youngest daughter, God could not help but to tear up. Lucifer then looked to his surrounding and saw the massive piles of dead bodies; humans, angels, devils, and demons alike.

He then stopped to see Ryvern who only stared at the darken sky.

"Brother…" Lucifer called out to him.

God turned his head to see Ryvern who wiped the tears off his eyes as he glanced over to them. Lucifer stared at the Demon with guilt in his eyes.

"Brother…" Lucifer called out to him again.

Ryvern could be seen clenching his fist while Lucifer tried to speak once more.

"I'm sorry for what I'm about to do."

A spear of light formed on Lucifer hand as he hovered it towards God; who could only embraces the death to come.

Several minutes ago...

In one of the wide plains of Italy, existed a sight that would make even murderers could not bear to watch. Mountains of bodies stretched across the plains, some belongs to angels, some devils, but most are humans.

Like a lightning strike that hits the ground, in came the Demon himself; cladded in black armour and crackles of electricity surround it. Ryvern; also known as the Demon, could only stared the sight in disgust. But he was not alone, he was accompanied with 7 other men and women.

One man cladded in red armour with a bull's skull as his helmet, wielding a huge great sword. Another had a yellow robe and hood, as a claymore hovered in front of him. Another man had a grey, full metal armour, while holding a weapon similar to an assault rifle.

The other man seems to have four limbs of black oozes supporting him as he himself hovers from the ground, while black oozes dripped from his black robe. A woman with a purple clad hooded robe and a pair of violet silver gauntlet stood herself right next to Ryvern.

Another woman had a rather luxurious red violet dress while aura of pink glowed around her. Wearing a small smirk on her lips, she looked over to a lady in white golden armour, who hovered above all of them while a pair of metallic white wings flapped to keep her over the ground.

The Demon stared down on the battlefield to see mountains of bodies, whilst everyone else was fighting for their life. The red in his eyes glows furiously as he sees Azrael; who was clashing blade with Archangel Uriel.

Ryvern breathed deeply, calming himself down before turning to his companion.

"The worst has come…"

He turned back and took a step forward.

"Ira; the Sin of Wrath."

The man in red armour and bull skull helmet nodded as fire engulfed within him and attached to his great sword.

"Avaritia; the Sin of Greed."

The man in yellow robe nodded as more claymore appeared and hovered around him.

"Invidia; the Sin of Envy."

The man in grey full armour seems to only standing still before taking a step forward. Ryvern saw this and sighed. The others chuckled due to the barely responsive Envy. Ryvern turned to the man in black clothing, who still hovering above the ground with the 4 limbs.

"Gula; the Sin of Gluttony."

The man nodded as the black oozes stopped dripping from his robe and multiple limbs of that were made of the oozes appeared behind him.

"Acedia; the Sin of Sloth."

The lady in purple hooded robe nodded as a pair of blades came out from each of her gauntlet.

"Luxuria; the Sin of Lust."

The lady in the red violet dress smiled lightly to him as she glows brighter in pink colour. Then, a number of soldiers who died on the battlefield, rose from the ground and got into formation right in front of the group of 8.

"Superbia; the Sin of Pride."

The only lady with wings nodded as her wings formed multiple metallic blade.

Ryvern turned back to the battlefield as a lightning strikes him. He then surrounded by multiple lightning of blue that were larger than before as he cracked his neck.

"Spare no one."

Pride zoomed through the air and launched her metallic blade towards the battlefield, killing everyone that were hit by the blade instantly. Lust ordered her undead troops as she herself oversee the battle from the same place.

Sloth teleported away from them as she appeared again and killing an angel and disappeared in an instant before appearing again and killed a devil. Gula marched through the battlefield as his limbs dragged anyone who were grabbed by it. The limbs then placed the victim inside his robe before grabbing more and more.

Envy places himself away from the battlefield as he shoots the head of anyone who were unluckily enough to be on his sight. Greed launches his blades to the soldiers, striking them down before summoning more blades with his abilities.

Wrath ran together with Ryvern and before the two of them split, Wrath's gauntlets heated up before he launches a series of flame to anyone in front of him. He then completely sliced off those who were near him with his great sword.

Ryvern sprinted through the battlefield in a speed that no one has ever seen before. He took down one angel at a time, before punching a hole into a devil's chest, and ripping off the head of a fallen angel.

He moved on to the heretics who joined the side of the Fallen. He obliterated them with a single strike of blue lightning of his own that he launched through the gauntlet of his. He sprinted away but halted as a worried Archangel Michael clashed his light sword with Ryvern's black gauntlet.

"Brother! There is no need for more blood!" yelled Michael.

Ryvern did not utter a word and swayed his arms which made the lightning around him struck Michael, making the archangel launched away from him.

Ryvern then was attacked from multiple sides, by creatures so dark that light cannot reflect itself on their skin. The creatures had their limbs on all four, resembling a humanoid wolf, and launched themselves to Ryvern. The man in black armour raised his right arm as lightning from his body stretched itself to the ground and onto the demons, disintegrating them.

As Ryvern was about to swarm by multiple enemies, a fiery wall of flame incinerated them as Wrath arrives by his side.

"Guardian!" called the Sin of Wrath.

Ryvern looked over to him.

"Thanks."

"Don't mention it. Look!" The man in fire armour pointed over to a man with black wings absorbing the life out of an angel.

Ryvern turned and saw Azrael just finished sucking the literal life out of the angel. Azrael turned to him and smirked, before flying away from the lifeless corpse of an angel.

Ryvern said nothing else to Wrath but nodded at the man as he sprinted towards the flying Azrael. Wrath then continued to set his enemies ablaze.

Azrael landed near his brother Azazel.

"Has the preparation finished?" asked Azrael.

"Yes." Azazel nodded and continues. "What about the Demon?"

"He's com-"

Azazel suddenly vanished as trails of blue lightning passed him.

"-img…"

Azrael clicked his tongue as the man in black armour knocked Azazel unconscious. Ryvern stared at the man with black wings.

"AZRAEL!"

The owner of the name rolled his eyes in annoyance. He then opened his arms to taunt the Demon.

"What are you waiting for then?! I'm here-"

Azrael was cut off as a black gauntlet belonged to Ryvern pierced his chest and into his heart. The fallen angel slowly looked to the man responsible for it as he cursed under his breath.

"Damn it… I didn't expect you to be this fast."

Ryvern lifted his arm as Azrael grunted in pain. The Demon stared deep into his black eyes in pure anger, without a shred of regret. Ryvern stabbed his blue lightning into Azrael's wounds, resulting the scream from the fallen angel to echo throughout the field.

He then removes his arm from Azrael's chest as the dying Fallen slumped onto the ground. Ryvern then looks over to the injured God and Lucifer, who had just done screaming at God on how God has failed him.

"---And maybe Lokael would still alive…"

Hearing the name, Ryvern stared at the darkening sky. The thought of his late wife came to his mind.

'Fight on…love…'

The whispers of his wife still clears in his mind as he takes off the dark helmet of his. Ryvern then wiped the tears off his eyes as the saying of a man he called his brother still vivid in his head.

'If my death is suffice for the continuity of this world, then so be it.'

He then glance over to Lucifer who appeared to have a grim look on his face. Ryvern clenched his fist as he look to both God and Lucifer.

"I'm sorry for what I'm about to do," said Lucifer as the Devil turned to God, light spear now in his hand.

God then closed his eyes as the light from Lucifer's spear reflected on his face, surprising the Demon. Ryvern immediately sprinted towards Lucifer and grabbed the spear of the Devil.

Lucifer tried to shake Ryvern's away but to no avail. The Devil then got on his knees as he sobs.

"Why…" asked Lucifer.

Ryvern took the spear away and broke it with his hand.

"Because you are not Azrael…"

He then looked at the Devil before knocking him away with his arm, rendering the Devil unconscious. He then turned to see God, who looked at the Demon with eyes full of regret.

With fury on his eyes, Ryvern clenched His throat. Shaky arms of frustration, eyes of guilt and sorrow, and his frown of sadness reflected to God's eyes.

"I too, wept for her death."

Tears of sorrow fell from His eyes as Ryvern slowly removed his hand. Ryvern looked over to his arm to see the blood of Azrael still lingered around it. He clenched his fist before aiming it at the rock nearby, smashing it to pieces.

"All of 'these' could've been prevented if you weren't so quick to abandon your faith in your children." Ryvern slowly spoke out. "These…'humans'… Are they really 'precious' to you?"

Ryvern gripped his fist tightly as he saw God slowly got up from the ground.

"They are not perfect, I know." God grunted as he clenched his abdomen. "But to see this Earth so devoid of life is heart-breaking."

God turned to Ryvern and He said;

"Will you grant this old man His final requests?"

Ryvern calmed himself down and nodded.

"Yes."

"I only wish that you would forgive me for her death. And…"

God then reached out to his arm and placed it above his chest.

"Strive to live your best life, my son-in-law."

Suddenly the blue lightning around Ryvern's body diminished as the darken sky suddenly flashed. A blue lightning came from above and struck where the two of them were.

After a short while, only Ryvern remained as God had already disappeared like a dust in the wind. Ryvern stared at the ground as his tears fell to the dirt and the darken sky finally poured its rain.

The Demon silently cried in the downpour before he screamed out the agony of his heart.

"ARGHHHHHHH!!!"
