Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Enter the King’s Labyrinth: The 1st Keeper

"Don't these Eight-legged crawler know when to give up, they have been chasing us for the past 20 minutes." complained Viden .

[I wish I had a spell strong enough to eradicate all these giant spiders in one go.]

"Viden! Rein! Look up ahead, there are two small openings." Mais shouted.

"Okay, let us go right then." Rein urged.

"No let's go left."

"Now is not the time for this Viden."

"That is why you should shut up so we can go left."

"Come on now, is not the time for the two of you to be bickering." Mais said with a slight nervousness in his tone.

"You're right we will go left then." Rein reluctantly agreed.

The trio entered the left opening which was just big enough for them to fit through.

"What the!!"

The trio started hurdling down a deep chasm with no bottom in sight.

"Come on we just entered the labyrinth and it's just been one thing after another." Viden shouted as they fell faster and faster.

Viden Casted the wind spell creating a disc of air under him, while Rein transformed his alloy ring into a rope with a stake which he threw into the wall, catching Mais by the collar of his green sweater.

They slowly made their way to the bottom of the chasm.

"Don't say a word." Viden argued.

"Alright I wasn't gone say anything about you almost making us fall to our deaths." Rein mocked.

"You two really don't get along very well."

"You could say that again, I would like to spend all day talking about that but we have a job to do Mais do you know how far we are from the Source of the Mana spikes."

Mais closed his eyes as he whispered ancient words a mental image of the labyrinth formed in his mind showing the exact location of the source.

Opening his eyes a blue trail became visible to him.

"All right I got it just follow me."

{Misty Café Sleekcrest town plaza}

"Why are forcing me to come with you to some random Café Claire." Lot says lazily as he is dragged by Claire across town.

"Aren't you the bit worried about where Rein has gone, everyone we asked said they haven't seen him since two mornings ago." Claire voiced.

"That still doesn't answer why you are dragging me to this Café."

"It's the Misty Café and if you knew Rein better you would know he works there."

"So you plan to ask the employees if they know where he went."

"That's gist of it, plus I hear their pastries and coffee is to die for." Claire beamed.

{Deep in the King's Labyrinth}

[This feeling is similar to the one I felt before in Wareboo forest]

"Viden! Mais! Duck." Rein warned.

The trio ducked avoiding a direct hit from a swinging tail.

"Look ahead we have company." Rein stated in a serious tone.

"That is one huge serpent." Viden replied nervously.

"That is no normal huge serpent it's a feralite with huge amounts of ominous mana."

"How do you know that." Mais asked Rein.

"I have picked up a trick or two to sense the ominous mana of feralite though it isn't as advanced as Mais spell."

The serpent was about 30 feet with blue and white banded colors on it scales.

The Serpent spat an acidic venom at the trio as they dodge it looking for any cover.

"If that venom touches us, we will just be bones." Mais observes as chills run down his spine.

"Look a rock arch over there." Viden points out.

"Shining light!!" Rein spell creates a bright light which shines throughout the cavern blinding the snake as the trio dives behind the rock arch.

"The serpent must be the keeper of this chamber in the Labyrinth." Mais explained.

"Wait so the Keepers of the Labyrinth isn't a myth." Viden answered surprised at Mais's statement.

"I didn't think so until I am seeing it with my very eyes now, as you two might know the legend of the King's labyrinth , they're said to be four keepers who inhabit it."

[The Serpent, the Twin scorpions, the Lion and the most formidable of the four the Giant Orion, the story I read said these keepers were once retainer of a King who ruled over ancient Yearl, one day a dark force tried to take over the kingdom but thanks to the mages of the ancient kingdom the dark force was sealed in this Labyrinth where the Kings retainer were ordered to keep guard over the seal.]

"Wait so that means that the dark force that they sealed is somewhere in here." Viden added.

"It would seem that way mean the serpent is following the old king's orders and trying to keep us from going any further."

The serpent swung its tail creating a big gust of wind destroying the arch Rein, Viden and Mais were hiding behind.

"Azure Blast!!" Rein shot a blast of flames at the Serpent but it spits acid nullifying his flames.

But it gives Viden enough time to cast wind blades striking the serpent's face hard.

"Bullseye that's how it's done!!"

"Hisss!!" The serpent roared loudly as he became enraged by Viden's spell.

"All you did was aggravate it even more."

"Shut up weakling your attack wasn't even the least bit effective as well."

"Watchout!" Mais shouted but it was too late Rein and Viden was hit hard by the snakes tail.

"I feel like I broke a rib, this Serpent doesn't hold back." Rein panted as he slowly got back on his feet.

"This serpent has to have some sort of weakness." Mais ponders as he looks at the snake over a uprooted boulder.

Rein and Viden danced around the Cavern as they attack the Serpent with their spells but none could penetrate its scales.

"Why aren't any of my attacks doing any damage!!" Viden frustratingly declares as he charges the Serpent with a sharp stone sword.

"Don't get so close Viden." Rein warns but he stubbornly ignores.

The moment Viden got close to the serpent a beam of light blue mana shot from it's mouth narrowly missing a direct hit, but knocks him back.

"Why are you being so reckless Viden, I know we have our differences and we butt head but this is a life and death situation so we must work together." Rein urged as he caught Viden.

"Shut up I don't want to hear anything from you!"Viden argued as he pushed Rein off.

"I guess I will have to do this myself then."

"Rein there seems to be a small purple gem embedded on the serpents forehead." Mais announced.

Rein looked at the Serpent and it was there ominous mana around the gem was visible to Ren.

"Thanks, Mais I know what I have to do now." Rein says as he grips the daggers from his pockets.

"Phantom sir why are you patting the walls." Phantom's masked partner asked.

"I got information that there is a secret passage close to the entrance that only few know of, ahh here it is." Phantom responded.

Phantom press on a brick in the wall as piece of the wall opens like a door, allowing the two men to pass through.
