The narrow stretch of sand is faintly radiant, even with dim starlight illuminating it, and the dark sea rolls gently onto the shore. I peer into the darkness at the periphery, my heart pounding violently. Sean's strides slow and he looks around cautiously.
Before Sean can answer, Dorian leaps in between us and a shadow on the furthest edge of the sand, his eyes aglow and his teeth bared. With one hand he snatches at the empty air.
A woman's frustrated voice sputters beside him as she stumbles and nearly falls. Her long dark braid swishes wildly as she materializes from air, catching herself on Dorian's muscled arm. "Oh, for fⴎck's sake! Damn Weres! I'm not here to harm you! It's me!"
"Darby!" Leaping forward, I shove Dorian out of the way and crush my sister in my arms.
