"Aannnnndddd finally! A great species! The only one of its kind on Earth! Welcoming you to the gorgeous, spectacular... ANGELLLLL!" the auctioneer cheered as his beet, red face grinned greedily at the cash signs lit up in his eyes.
The audience became silent as a silver cage emerged from behind the red curtains. Encaged within was a girl with long blonde waves and golden wings that glowed under the lights direction. As the auctioneer tapped the frame she lifted her head to reveal two ruby coloured eyes with a bambi like gaze.
An angel had never been seen before and it was merely on the basis of religion that anyone believed they existed. However once every thousand years a lost angel found its way to earth and unfortunately due to humans greed this one was captured and sold to an auction house.
"Let's start at 50,000 gold! come on, come on! For a chance to get this rarest and most powerful creature bid now!" he was really trying to sell Angel at the highest price he could, however even despite it being an aristocratic auction house many dropped out at the first price.
Still many raised their hands in an attempt to capture such a creature and others suspected it was a hoax and left the seating. Noticing the auctioneer banged the cage again signaling angel to spread her wings freely.
Chattering emerged from the audience and outroar followed as numerous buyers called out higher and higher prices.
"So 1 million gold is the highest bid is anyone willing the bid higher, well then going once going twice going -"
"100 million gold" a voice called out from the private seeting where only the highest elites would sit. All the other bidders silenced and knew it not wise to challenge the buyer whoever it was.
"Hohoho, well going for 100 million going once going twice going thrice, sold to the gentleman in the higher seating!"
The auctioneer rubbed his chubby hands together before glaring at Angel with a warning to behave herself. Gulping, she nodded and closed her wings back shut.
She didn't know who the buyer was but to offer such a large sum of money she could only assume he was extremely powerful. All she could do now was hope that power hadn't gone to his head.
A tall sophisticated man stepped through the door along with the auctioneer. He had dark brown hair and wore sharp glasses much in contrast with his large build.
"This is what you bought, I hope she meets your expectations. Would you like her delivered in this cage or how else would you like her delivered?" the auctioneer rambled on as the buyer and Angel met eyes and continued to stare at each other.
"Well as you said I've bought her so where are the keys to this... Cage?" he talked down to the pompous man who smiled awkwardly as he fumbled around on his key chain trying to find the right one.
"Ahh yes it's this one, here you go" he handed the man the key before leaving the room holding a lengthy contract in his hand.
*Click*
The door swung open and the man stepped inside before crouching before the girl who had blanketed herself in her golden wings.
"So... Aren't you going to come with me?" the man, far from his expression before, presented a warm smile and an open hand.
Although she could understand them she could quite mimick their tongue and could only stumble over simple greetings. Nodding, she placed her small hand in his large palm.
Helping her up he realised she was still wearing the wings, "you can take them off now. I know it was all a scheme for extra money over a pretty slave."
Confused, she tilted her head and closed her wings tightly assuming that was what he meant.
"Ahh whatever keep them on if you want." already frustrated, the man rubbed his brows trying to flatten the nerve bulging out.
Padding forward, she followed after the man who was heading towards a beautifully decorated carriage laced with precious jewels and metals. It was the first time angel had been out in months after being trained into obedience by the auctioneer.
Stopping, she looked at an older man standing next to the buyer, he also held a comforting smile although it had little effect on her who hadn't experienced warmth once while on earth.
"Master, who might this young lady be?"
"Angel"
"and was there a reason for her 100 million gold purchase?" even angel could guess it wasn't a question but a lecture out of disapproval.
"Yeah, I reckon 100 million is quite cheap for the future queen."
"wh-wahhh! Wh-at do you mean your highness? a slave can't be a crown princess. oh dear your father would role over in his grave." the old man sighed drearily.
"Well good thing he was cremated." the man, who turned out to be royalty, rolled his eyes in boredom and grabbed Angels hand dragging her into the carriage.
They could still hear the old man raging outside the carriage door even after they were ready to set off.
"So how did you end up a slave then?" the man asked however it lacked everything a question of that sort should have had and seemed more like something to break the ice more than anything.
Not being able to respond she shrugged her shoulders and tilted her head innocently.
" Haha, Very few would dare to shrug their shoulders in front of a soon to be king" he laughed watching as she shrugged again.
"Not to worry we'll get you etiquette teachers when we get back to the Palace and we'll have to change this..." looking her up and down he finished, "dress sense."
Confused at his concerns, she sighed and lay back in the seats it had been so long since she had rested on something so comfortable. As she closed her eyes she fell into a deep slumber only to wake and find the man looking down at her face.
'Huh! how did I manage to get to the other side of the carriage and why am I sleeping on his lap!'
Flustered, she jolted up and scampered to the other side as her cheeks became the same colour as her eyes.
" Haha don't worry you looked uncomfortable so I lent you my lap. I won't do it again if it makes you uncomfortable." he laughed, watching her cautious attitude.
'Why is he laughing so carefree? Is it usual human customs to touch each other so freely.'
As she became lost in thought the carriage holted and the carriage door swung open to reveal lines of people dressed in work outfits all lowering their heads to the man before her.
'I take it he's big shot? Maybe the equivalent of God on earth '
"Hurry up we don't have all day..."he seemed to get more agitated every time she saw him. Was she doing something wrong?
Nodding, she hopped of the carriage and glanced around at the Palace. Alike her wings the sun reflected of its surface giving the impression it was not somewhere everyone could enter.
" Let's go" he reached down and grabbed her hand before dragging her down the rows of people who where muttering things under there breaths.
Shaking, she scampered after him and it wasn't long before she was in a well adorned room where several paintings of other prestigious looking people hung.
"Sit" she sat down on the more couch behind her that was even more comfortable than the carriage, "so what's your name?"
Her throat seized up as she tried to pronounce the name humans had given her," ahhh-ahhh nngggehhhh-ulll."
"What's with that? Can you not speak?" he stopped what he was writing and looked up at her paled face, "So you can't. Haha! Even better."
Confused as to why it was better, she tilted her head with a puzzled look then imitated his response, "Haha."
"Your weird. Arnold!! Come, take her to her room and get her a lady in waiting along with some maids." he ordered ushering the old man to scurry in and politely push angel out the door.
Meanwhile rumours of the crown prince bringing in a mental woman worth 100 million gold spread like wild fire amongst the Palace servants.
" Here is your room, I hope it is to your standards." Arnold bowed as he opened the door to an enormous room decorated with white walls and carpets all of which shone as more gold outlined the rooms structure.
Looking around angel could see the luxury however what caught her attention wasn't inside but rather outside. Running forward she burst through the balcony doors to see a massive garden the size of a field... or maybe two.
"My lady please be careful the balcony is not safe for running on..." looking down at her bare feet he sighed, "especially with no shoes on. Right, come on back inside we can see the garden tomorrow."
Staring out at the land below her, she smiled so wide her rubie eyes turns to crescents, "hehehe! " she giggled in excitement. It had been so long since she had seen such vast green land and breathed in such fresh air.
Naturally her golden wings spread out and Arnold jumped back in shock. Flapping they began to lift her of the ground and she began to start climbing the balcony.
Snapping from his trance, Arnold launched forward grabbing her feat and trembled, "y-you can't its dangerous."
Judging from his worried face, Angel guessed he thought she would die if she fell. Reassuringly she patted his head and smiled radiantly again. Like a fool the old man fell back in a trance as angel slipped of the balcony onto the other side.
" Huh... HUH!!! Angel?!" he shouted running over to the balcony. Just as he reached the edge something flew up and brushed past his face, "huh! Uwahhhhh!"
Looking up he could see a pair of golden wings gliding under the sun as she soared down across the land.
"Wooohhhhhoooo, hahaha ha!" screaming as her lungs filled with fresh air and her worries slowly disappeared. She watched as the grass and flowers blurred beneath her and as she reached the lake she decided to run her fingers through the water washing away the anxiety and fear she had been building up for the last few months.
'I'm free! I'm free...but that man. What should I do with him? What does he want from me? Should I just leave now before...?'
