Chapter 10 - Chapter 8: Village Mapping

After we finished the sword training session, my parents declared a meeting to decide what my schedule will look like so that I won't forget anything important during this week and the following ones.

Oh yeah. This schedule was just for important events, so it is not including meal times or the times I sleep.

By the way, since Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be days of rest in this age, I won't be doing anything except the various things I will be doing in my base.

The result was this:

Monday: Playtime (Base), Sword Training

Tuesday: Playtime (Base), Exploring the Village

Wednesday: Playtime (Base), Sword Training

Thursday: Playtime (Base), Exploring the Village

Friday: Playtime (Base), Sword Training

My parents said that if anything important happens, this schedule might change.

Oh well.

It was already night time when the meeting happened so I wasn't really paying attention. I am sleepy. I am going to bed already.

I dragged my feet up the stairs to my room. I open the door and collapse on my bed.

So tired.

I hope I have enough energy to go outside with Corvin to build the base.

********************

I wake up.

Refreshing.

Ok.

Let's get down to business. Oh. That sounds cool. I should say that every time I am about to do something important.

Anyway, let's eat breakfast.

When we are done, I should try to find Corvin at the building in the wall. If he is still working or is not there, I will try exploring the village to know where everything is. I should also try to get some paper and ink so that I can make a map.

Ok.

"Mother, do we have any paper and ink?"

"Why do you need it?"

"I need it so that I can make a map of the village."

"Hmm. Ok. There is paper and ink in our bedroom. You can get it if you want."

"Thank you, mother."

I walk towards my parents room and put my hand on the handle. I never went inside my parent's room. I wonder what it looks like?

I open the door.

Wha?!

This room is gigantic!

I say that but I think it is only slightly bigger than mine. The only reason I say that it is gigantic is because the huge bed in the centre makes the room feel so much bigger than mine. I guess my parents needed a giant bed so that the both of them can fit on them.

However, if I imagine the size of my parents on it, won't there be lots of extra space? Maybe they want to have some space in between them. This bed is mysterious. I wonder what other secrets this bed is hiding?

Anyway, I shouldn't be focusing on the bed. I should be looking for the ink and paper. Where do people store these kinds of things?

Probably in the drawer, right?

I walk towards the drawers and open them.

Jackpot!

There is lots of paper in this drawer. All of them are sheets that are at least the size of canvas. Canvas size? Does my mother or father like painting? I can't imagine father doing it so it is probably mother's habit.

I pick up one of the sheets of paper. If I need any more, I can just come in and get some more. Now, where is the ink?

I try checking in the drawer filled with paper. Nope. Only paper here. I check the only other drawer. Empty. Did mother make a mistake when she said that there was ink in here? No. If it isn't in the drawer, it should be somewhere else in the room, right?

I will check everywhere in the room.

30 minutes later.

"Really?"

I mutter while holding up a cup of ink and a feather pen. Why the heck was the ink cup and feather pen underneath the bed?! What kind of people will hide these things under their own bed!? While thinking that, I exit my parent's room.

"Mother, I will be going outside now!"

"Okay. Be careful, all right?"

"Yes, I will."

I inform mother of my leaving and swing open the door and step outside. I will go check on the building in the wall first to see if Corvin is free right now or not. I walk the path I used before when I first met Corvin while carrying the sheet of paper and the cup of ink. By the way, I put the feather pen in between my teeth so that it won't fall down while I am walking.

After 10 minutes of trying to retrace my path, I finally find the familiar scene I burned into my mind. There is the well, the shop that sells weapons, and the building that has a bunch of adults wearing exploration gear going in and out of it. Yup. This is the place.

I scan the area while looking for the building in the wall. Maybe I should just call it an office? After a few seconds, I see the office and start walking there. I think I am attracting a lot of people's attention towards me but, I ignore it and keep walking. If they want to look at me, they can look at me. It is not like I am hiding anything.

I finally reach the office door and knock. This is the perfect chance to see if my manners are still as good as my past life's. As I thought that, a knight opened the door.

"Who is it?"

"Down here."

The knight looks down and seems shocked. That face is funny, you know? You might make me laugh and destroy my manners with that face. While trying to hold in my laughter, I ask him my question.

"Sir, were you expecting someone else?"

"Yes. I didn't think that a kid was going to be knocking on the door. So, why are you here?"

"I want to ask a question."

"Umm...okay. What is your question?"

"Is Corvin still on his shift?"

"Mr. Corvin? Yes he is. Why?"

Oh.

Still on the job.

At least I still have something to do before he gets back.

"Never mind. Can you tell me when he comes back?"

"Let's see. According to the schedule, he will be back in 2 hours."

Yikes. 2 hours of waiting.

Still, I've got things to do while waiting for him.

"Okay. Thank you, Sir."

"You're welcome."

After saying that, he turns around and closes the door. This morning is going to be one long bout of mapping this entire place, huh. Oh well. I should try to draw as skillfully as I can. Also, when that guy had a surprised look on my face, I had a strange feeling. I think it was a mixture of happiness and something else.

Nah.

Let's stop thinking about that.

It's not like that small moment is going to harm me, right?

While thinking of those things, I walked around the entire village during the morning. I walked everywhere and took note of the places where important landmarks were. Gosh. This could be some sort of exercise in of itself. It tests your physical capabilities by making you walk everywhere and your mental strength by making you draw a map of the entire place where you were walking.

While I was toiling away, 2 hours flew by and Corvin arrived back at the office.

"Hey. Just came back from my shift. Any news?"

"Well, there was this kid who asked where you were. Do you know him?"

"What? Wait, what was the kid's name?"

"He didn't say."

"Oh. I am pretty sure that it was Alex. I will go find him now."

"Wait! Why do you need to find him?"

"It's because I have to help him with his little project."

"Oh, okay."

Achoo!

Huh.

Did I catch a cold or something?
