Author's Note: The point of view of a professional swordsman named Miria. (This is a short side story, so only around 500 - 800 words.)
********************
I look up.
This is the Adventurer's Guild in Vulcan. I am supposed to meet a friend inside this building. I should go in. I don't want him to wait any longer.
I open the doors. There are a lot of people here. I am not good at dealing with crowds. I scan the area while trying to not draw stares to me. There! That's him. I slowly walk towards him and sit down next to him.
"Nice to see you again, Renzandt."
I greet my friend. After he heard me, he turned towards me.
"Ah. So you were there, Miria."
Really. What is he saying? That he didn't notice me until the moment I called out to him? I am feeling a bit annoyed already.
"You didn't see me?"
"No. It is just, I was a bit distracted. Something happened earlier and I am just thinking about it."
Something happened?
"What happened?"
Was there an emergency or something? While I was making a worried face, Renzandt started talking in a hurried way.
"No! There was no emergency! It was just something strange, that is all!"
Oh.
Something strange.
I want to do something here while I still have the chance.
"So, what was the thing that happened? Subjugation request for a rare monster variant? Nobles that are needing guards?"
"No. If you really want to know, check the newest request on the board. It was just posted 10 minutes before you got here."
Really?
Only 10 minutes ago. Plus, it is strange. I might just accept the request if I am able to clear the criteria needed.
I walk towards the request board. There are many other adventurers crowding the area, blocking my view of the board. I squeeze past them and try to find which one of the requests is the newest there.
There it is!
Let's see...
'Help wanted in building my base. Most preferred helpers are people who are good at Wind magic or have abilities that can stick an object to another object without any problems'?
What?
I pull the request sheet off the board and bring it to the reception area. When I did, some of the adventurers around the board started raising a ruckus, but I ignored them. When I get there, I call one of the receptionists over.
"Hey, is this a joke?"
I ask them. No matter how you look at it, it is both weird and suspicious.
"Which one?"
"This."
I show them the request. When I do, the receptionist makes an understanding face.
"Ah. The newest one. I understand why you are asking what it is about."
"Then, why?"
I really can't understand this thing at all. This is something shouldn't be in an Adventurer's Guild.
"You see, that one was posted by a little boy earlier."
"Then, why did you let him post something that is childish."
"Well, for some reason, he was very knowledgeable in the way the Guild works and said that he will pay the one who accepts and completes his request with 20 Gold coins."
What?
Where did a kid get that much money!?
"Even if he had a bunch of money, that is still no reason to let him do that!"
"There was one other reason. That kid is a descendant of the 1st Hero."
A big shot!?
Using his influence so easily to get his way!?
Hmm.
Interesting.
"Oh! He also asked how much it would be to stay in the documentation area."
From what I hear, this kid is bold and is trying to research things?
I already like him. Maybe I should accept this request. I am a professional swordsman. Plus, I know Wind magic as well. He comes from a family of knights, right? If he does, I can teach him some of my tricks.
I will savour the few weeks I will be able to stay here by training this kid! Ah! But of course, I must help him with his construction of his base to gain his trust. Then, only then, will I train him.
I give myself a mental note to make sure to show up here tomorrow as well. I will bring Renzandt here with me as well, whether he likes it or not.
So, Miria's visit to Vulcan changed from visiting an old friend to training an unknown kid in the art of her style of sword techniques.
Meanwhile...
Achoo!
Huh?
I've been sneezing quite a lot, haven't I?
Am I sick?
Oh well.
It is not like a sickness is going to stop me!
